Summary: The movie that inspired me to read The Hobbit
Review: The movie, The Fellowship of the Ring has inspired me to read the set of fantasy classics by J.R.R Tolkien; The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The front cover of The Hobbit is a little chubby hobbit, holding a short sword, wearing a green cloak, and with a monster behind in the dark swarm.
I never knew what the story of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit was about until I saw the movie. Before the movie was out, my brother insisted me on reading the novel. That way, I can have a better feel of the movie when it comes out. At that point of time, I thought that this novel was going to be another Robin Hood type so I never put my hands on it. When the movie came out, with my friends we went to watch it. There were waves of people in line waiting to watch the movie and I was surprised by this fact. The movie turned out to be a blast. It had a clear and powerful sense of feel for the viewer. It made me feel like I was one of the characters in the movie. I really enjoyed my time in the theater even though I watched it from the first row. The moment I came out of the theater, I made up my mind to find the book and read it. The next morning, I went on amazon to search for the set of classics and I also emailed my brother to ask which book should I read first, The Hobbit or The Fellowship of the Ring? He told me to read the Hobbit and he also told me that we have the set of classics at home. It was like a miracle, when I wanted to read the book; it was already place there for me.
For people who do not like to read like me, I strongly recommend this book because it might change your appetite for reading novels because that¡¦s what The Hobbit did to me. This is a not only a fantasy I will never forget, but it will stay in my memory forever because the story is just excellent.

Summary: exquisite
Review: It is impossible to adequately describe this epic without simply repeating the words of the book! This classic tale has great depth and is interesting from many perspectives. First and foremost, it is a ripping good yarn, plain and simple. It is the king of adventures, and puts all the classic fairy tales to shame. If you like fantasy, this is the father of all fantasy- Tolkien was THE master of the genre. It is a moral tale, detailing the universal struggle between good and evil, right and wrong, and the prices and rewards we all face, whatever we may choose. It is a fantastic demonstration of true honor, integrity and friendship, and of how the temptation of evil can destroy us completely. The language is beautiful and poetic, like music for the imagination. Tolkien develops entire languages, and the poetry he writes within these books ranges from clever to moving to beautiful. If I had to be trapped on a desert island, and could only pick one book, it would be Lord of the Rings. I received this set as a gift as a child, and was immediately mesmerized. I read the tale at least once a year growing up, and , yes, I did have a life and other things to read! This is actually just that good! I still find it therapeutic to immerse myself in the tale again... If you are reading this for the first time, I envy you...enjoy!

Summary: The Greatest Story Ever Told
Review: Though I'm sure you will find these books much lengthier than the movies that are currently being made that are based on them, one should not be overwhelmed at their length. Seing the movies would be no proper substitution for one of the greatest epics ever written. Everyone should do themselves a favor and read this great boxed set which is even occopanied by The Hobbit which by no means should go unread prior to the reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I'm a huge stars wars fan and little has ever captivated me story-wise more than the holy trilogy but after having read these books the greatest story ever told is in THIS GALAXY and it is THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!

READ IT

Summary: The Best Series in the world
Review: The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Series is one of the best books I have ever read. If you saw the movie, forget it, the book is 10,000 times better. I would advise you to buy these books. If not, just buy The Hobbit and then you'll want to buy the series.

Summary: for the escapist
Review: i live in birmingham, england where tolkien formed a lot of his ideas fot the hobbit and the lord of the rings. it's hard to review this because there is so much involved. the hobbit is simply magnificent, it really does transport you to another place and time. the lord of the rings is a lot more detailed but is all the better for it. i'm not a mad loony tolkien follower but these really are great books. walking down the street in my hometown it is almost impossible not to come across some place where tolkien didn't live or play as a child, but you can see where he got his ideas, from the two towers to the inns and woods. although woodland is scarce where i live it's hard not to conjure up images of that of lord of the rings. read these books, escape and enjoy immensely.

Summary: Only For Weirdos
Review: I tried and tried again to get through these books in their entirety but haven't been able to do it. Who wants to read about this stuff anyway? The answer is: WEIRDOS! Stay away not only from these books, but from the people who read them.

Summary: The basis for fantasy throughout the world!
Review: Some say that this series is long and borish. Most don't realize the intament detail in the books. Every thing in J.R.R. Tolkiens story have a history. EVERYTHING is intertwined so that the plot is so thick that it is truly amazing. I love the settings and the characters in these books, and believe that J.R.R. Tolkien is the father of fantasy. He literally created most of the races of all fantasy stories. If you ever read Silmarilion you will realize how much of his life he put into this. These books are page turners because of all the work Tolkien put into them. I love these stories and know that nothing will ever be written to match them.

Summary: The most unique story ever written
Review: The Lord of the Rings is by far (in my opinion) the best novel ever written. Tolkien does an outstanding job at portraying the life of Hobbits, Dwarfs, Elves, Men, of Middle Earth. The people who tell you that Tolkien wrote alot of unecesry things in the book are very lazy readers. Yes this novel does go through the cultures of everyday life of the different kinds of people of Middle Earth, but that's the whole fun of it. J.R.R. Tolkien purposly described things and life styles that most writters would not do, but it helps us to know more about the story. This novel is probably most popular with historians, Linguists and lovers of fantasies. I would recommend this book to those kinds of people, and to anyone and everyone. This book is the best story ever written.

Summary: The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit
Review: The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit

This is probably the best fantasy books I've ever read! Tolkien's books are rich in detail and character development, action and friendship. All four books center mostly on the Ring, fashioned by the Dark Lord Sauron, who needs it to help him conquer all of Middle-earth. Other owners of the Ring include the innocent hobbit Frodo, who inherits it at the beginning of LOTR, Bilbo his uncle, who finds it in the Hobbit and reluctantly hands it over in FOTR, and the creature Gollum, who pursues the heroes throughout the books for it. Frodo must caste the Ring into a volcano before Sauron achieves it.

I love all over Tolkien's characters (apart from the bad guys). The hobbits are all so innocent and unaware of what is happening in the world. As the books continue, their eyes are opened to the horrors of war and death. My favorite character is Frodo's servant Sam, whose loyalty to his master makes him a character in himself. I enjoy all the other hobbits to, such as Bilbo, Merry and Pippin. Gandalf, the wise wizard, and Aragorn, a king returning to his country, both come in second. Women play a remarkable small part in the books and apart from Galadriel, the elven-queen and Eowyn, the warrior/princess, are almost not there. Dwarves, elves, men, eagles and tree-like Ents are the other inhabitants of Middle-earth. The bad guys include Saruman (a treacherous wizard), Gollum, the orcs, the giant spiders, the Black Riders or Ring-wraiths (servants of Sauron), the dragon Smaug, and a few other scary monsters.

I can't wait to see the new Lord of the Rings movie version of The Two Towers, as I've already seen and preordered Extended edition of FOTR. I hope Peter Jackson does a movie version of The Hobbit when he's finished with LOTR. A must read for all fantasy-lovers!
