Rating: Summary: Excellent stuff Review: Loved this! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading.
Rating: Summary: Watch the movies instead Review: These r okay books. To tell u the truth, I think they're pretty boring. The movies r so much better, in my opinion. I do think that these books r work of pure genius, but they aren't the best books. Watch the movies.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a work of pure genius. I never looked fondly upon fantasy, I never had any interest in the genre until I picked up the trilogy. Tolkien makes everything come alive, giving the feeling that this isn't fantasy but reality. . .like it's some ancient history that has been long forgotten. For me, the brillance of The Lord of the Rings isn't concentrated in the action, imaginary species, etc . .but in it's depths and the underlying themes and ideas that Tolkien is able to create through the media of myth. This is one of the few books that I've become extremely emotionally attatched to, where many parts of it brought me to tears (esp. the chapters: The choices of Master Samwise, The Black Gate Opens, The Grey Havens). The characters feel real - by the time I finished the trilogy they all felt like old friends. The Lord of the Rings is a timeless classic, it's applicable to things within our own personal lives and it can be applicable to things on a world wide scale.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Piece of Work Review: Mr. Tolkien had an amazing imagination, and combined with the gift of writing clearly and concisely, he created a classic. Lord of The Rings is like a tale spun right from a dream, for the books are so illustrative and incredible. The characters are charming (except in the case of Sauron and his minions, who are quite the malevolent antagonists) and the plot, revolving around the Good vs. Evil idea, is wonderful. The surprises are delightful, and most unexpected. The only main flaw,in my opinion, is that the book starts off a bit too slow, and continues on like that for too long. However, after time, it begins to pick up pace and readers may become captivated. It is truly worthy of its own movie series. As well, I believe that the movies are magnificent, but that is for another review.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: Are you into fantasy? If you are then, Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Rings) is a good selection for you. The book, Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Rings) was written by J.R.R. Tolkien. I have seen the movie and I have read the book. I would give the book 5 out of 5 stars because Tolkien uses great details in describing the scenes in it, the vast range of different characters, and the history of the Hobbits and middle earth. Some of these things maybe more interesting if you saw the movie first before reading the book. Tolkien uses great vision to capture my imagination into the book. I will start reading and in minutes I will be absorbed into it. Actually visualizing that I am there with Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Sharing and experiencing there adventures as I read along. It is awesome. I also love the vast majority of characters he intertangles into the adventures. Like Tom Bombadil, a curious character indeed. Who makes his first appearance in the book when he rescued the 4 hobbits from the a magical tree while they were making there long trek to Rivendell. There are so many crazy characters. I cannot even mention them all. Another reason why I enjoyed the book a lot is the brief history of the hobbits and middle earth at the beginning of the book before the adventure even began. I enjoyed this part of the book because I actually saw the movie first and I didn't really no much about hobbits or what middle earth really was. So I liked how Tolkien explained a little bit about middle earth and the hobbit history. How the Shire came about. Some history on Bilbo Baggins as well. It helped me understand more. I would have to recommend reading this book if you enjoyed the movie. There is no doubt in my mind that if you saw the movie you wouldn't like reading this book. I am not a big reader at all. In fact this is the first book I owned. And I am actually planning on reading the rest. So if you like action and a good storyline go out and get this book today.
Rating: Summary: it's just gets better Review: the lord of the rings has been one of my favorite books since very early childhood, even befor i could read my father read the hobbit to me as a bed time story, later when i've learned how to read, i started on it, i think that it, and the narnia saga was the first fantasy i've read and it's always amased me how easy it can be to visit another world so easly, just by turning pages. i think that since then i've read those books over a hundred times. not being from a english speaking country, i had the first heberw transelation, and the second one, and now after the movies came out, desided i should probebly try and read it in it's original language. the elen lee covers are so beautiful, it makes me very happy for not getting the movie shots covers but chose this vertion. the whole design and prints and the format of the book is really great and though i've just started to read it, i'm haveing the best time. it's so great how middle earth just get more real and more beautiful everytime you read this book. reading it now it's like visiting old freinds.
Rating: Summary: All Right! Review: These books are awesome! I'm only now reading the fellowship and its great. If you can read well get this book today.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy Extravaganza Review: Lauren Haney The Fellowship of the Ring This book is simply the best. It is the beginning of the three Lord of the Rings books. It explains how the ring of power is forged and how the ring comes to Bilbo and Frodo. Frodo has to get the ring of power to Mordor so he can throw the ring into the fires of Mount Doom before Sauron, an evil villain, takes the ring. If Sauron takes it, he will destroy the world.Frodo doesn't know the way, so eight other races join with him to guide him to Mordor. They become the Fellowship. The most exciting part I think is when the Fellowship visits the Elves and Galadriel fives all nine members gifts to protect them from the evil creatures of mille earth.
Rating: Summary: Just another movie product... Review: The front cover of this annoying box-set tells us everything we want to know - this box is just another product caused by the 3 movies (so far only 2), based on the books. The real front cover, which was painted, was replaced by printed screenshots from the movies. In my opinion it can tell who reads it now - stupid children who were arroused by the movies, and now want to sit down and read the books ('cause somebody told them there were several scences not to appear in the movies and to appear in the books). If you're a stupid kid, go on and buy it. But if you're not, do yourself a favour and buy something else. VIVA LA RESISTANCE!
