Rating: Summary: no comparison... Review: Tolkien's books are incomparable, and readers should beware: if you pick up the Dragonlance series, and you are not a teenage boy, and you just read LOTR, be prepared to scoff
Rating: Summary: Tolkien is the master of Fantasy Review: These four books have had a more significant impact on me than any other I've ever read. The complexity of Tolkien's lineages, characters, and the physical landscape of Middle Earth are unmatched by any writer, past or present. If you love books, The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings is a must have for any collection
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up, way...way up!!! Review: The book is simply the work of a genius, in the truest sense of the word, it gives the reader an enormous feeling of satisfaction, the words flow so ever smoothly that you would want to read the passages over and over. Once you've taken to reading this masterpiece, I tell you, you'll be begging for more. I have read the epic four times and the Hobbit about twice and I just can't get enough of it. How do I really rate this book, an 11
Rating: Summary: The epidime of what all fantasy should be like. Review: This book is definitely the greatest work of fantasy I have ever read. From page one of The Hobbit to the last page of the Return of the King the rich, immersive Middle Earth complete with the average Bagginses turned heroes and the contrasting characteristics of all the members of the fellowship. All the characters are unforgetable and the story is one that can be read over and over.
I bought the boxed set several years ago and did not decide to read them until this year because I had nothing else to read. If I had known what I was missing I would have read them then and read them again now. It is the classic story of good versus evil told in a way it's never been told before. A way that makes you realize that an average person can make an extraordinary difference but they have their limits too and things don't always work out for the hero. Like in real life bad memories don't fade, old wounds don't stop hurting, and friends passed on don't come back. Everyone doesn't always wind up happy and this epic makes you feel for every character and their own personal losses and gains.
This book is a must read for any fan of the fantasy genre and even those who aren't. In a world filled with sci-fi and action, things blowing up on the silver screen often make us forget about the great books that exist. I would take these books over most any movie in theaters now. They transport you into the realm of Middle Earth where you can forget about your problems and watch Frodo solve his, even if only the length of a train ride or a wait in the doctor's office. A must read, plain and simple.
Rating: Summary: In the land of Mordor, where the shadows lie. Review: If you have never read this book, I envy you. I would give anything to read it again for the first time
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I have read these books and i loved them now i am moving on to the silmarillion
Rating: Summary: EVERY SINGLE RATING IS A TEN Review: Every person has rated this series a ten. Does this imply something? If not, please go to www.idiot.com. Just kidding. This is the best series ever written and you won't regret buying it. You will enjoy it the first time you read it, and the second, and the third, and the fourth, and the fifth, and the sixth and.....you get the point. Believe me, this series is worth every penny, nickel, and twenty dollar bill you pay. If you have read this series over fifty times, email me, we have a lot in common
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Adventure Ever Review: Most of what can be said about these books has been written. I couldn't resist adding my 10 the the list of other reviews. These are my favorite fantasy books ever
Rating: Summary: The Lord of the Rings has something for everyone. Review: Tolkien's writing is deep enough for college professor's to enjoy, yet vivid enough for a small child to get lost in it. I have read the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings completely through eleven times and have found new things in each reading. Middle-Earth is a world that is so real that you will begin to believe that you could have some hobbit blood in you. Just read the books and you will understand what I mean. I haven't met a person yet that didn't have some "Tookishness" in them.
Rating: Summary: The Originals Review: Read these original stories and skip the numerous later imitations. A classic of it's kind, but don't expect it to change your life (those who claim it did were pretty flaky to begin with)
