Summary: One of my all time favorites!
Review: I first read these books back in 1969. Each year for 10 years I would re-read all of them. They became old friends, I think I know almost all of the words. Now, almost 20 years after I first entered middle earth I still take the books down (I'm on my second set) and curl up on the couch for a good read.

Summary: Another World
Review: This is simply a must read. For many, these works are akin to a religion. What Prof. Tolkien wrote was not just a story, but an entire world with such depth and detail, that you would swear you are reading history. This IS the standard for fantasy literature. Many colleges teach courses on these books. In fact, many of the aspects and interpretations of the story are debated and studied as if they were history. For those who enjoy these, be sure to jump into the many books on the history of middle earth and also read the biography of Prof. Tolkien, which gives a fascinating account of how the entire middle-earth saga sprung from his "hobby" of creating his own languages....

Summary: We should all read it twice
Review: Having read the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as a teenager, I feel that everyone should read these books at least twice in their life. I am about to read them a second time as a 36 year old. I can't wait to revisit Aragorn of Arathorn, Gollum, The Elven King, Gandalf and of course Frodo and Bilbo Baggins! A set of timeless fantasy classics that are wonderfully rich in their meaning and good spirit for us all.

Summary: TOLKIEN IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!
Review: Read Eddings??? Or some other fantasies??? Like.. um, Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman...etc.. That's some nobody stuff!! Well, I started with thoes, and i got this bad taste in my mouth because they were boring and I even wished that they'd soon end. And the worst thing was; they didn't. But, to get to the point... ...Tolkien is so different!! I've read so much books in my shorty little 14 yrs life, and whatever I have read, I've never even heard about anything so magnificent, so terrific.. man, Tolkien sure can Write... WHEN READING THIS BOOK, YOU CAN ACTUALLY DIVE INTO WHOLE ANOTHER WORLD WITH SO MUCH EXITEMENT, AND MOST OF ALL, I LOVED THE ELVES AND ALL OF THE BEAUTIFUL SONGS THAT TOLKIEN HAD WRITTEN. AND I TRULY THINK, THAT ALTOUGH THE HEROS SURVIVED FROM ALL OF THE STRUGGLES, THE BOOK WAS BREATHTAKING, AND FULL OF IMAGINATION, IT WAS STILL VERY REALISTIC, ON ITS OWN LEVEL! So, you can't even compare this masterpiece into any other fantasy books..With this book, even if it's big and long, you really can't stop reading.. But, Tolkien is the best book author ever.. and I'm sure i'm not the only one who's thinking like this. TOLKIEN IS THE BEST!!!!!!!

Summary: Mesmerizing Journey into Middle Earth
Review: Although they bear little resemblance to each other, Robertson Davies' DEPTFORD TRILOGY and Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS are far and away my favorite fictional trilogies. The high number of "10" ratings from these reader reviews shows how much others have enjoyed reading Tolkien.

Summary: Great classic novel for both mature kids and adults
Review: I, a ten year old student, have read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Hobbit, and would like to say how iniventive and origional there are. If you like fantasy, you will love these books, with Orcs, (goblins), trolls, hobbits, (little men with fuzzy feet) drarves, dragons, men, elves, and giant Eagles. When Bilbo Baggins finds the one ring of power, that was made by the evil dark lord Sauron for his evil uses, by stealing it from the wretched Gollum in the Orc caves in the Misty Mountains near Eriador, the journey begins. Eighty years later, Bilbo leaves for Rivendall, home of the valley elves, and Frodo and Sam, Merry, and Pippen,(hobbits), Aragorn, (Strider), and Boromir, (men), Legolas (an elf) Gimli son of Gloin, the dwarf, and a wizard Gandalf the Grey, set out to Mordor, home of the Enemy, to destroy the one ring of power by throwing it into the cracks of doom. It is a wonderful and long, exciting fantasy thriller that everyone for all ages will enjoy. Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to Die, One for the dark lord on his dark throne In the land of Mordo where the shadows' lie One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the land of Mordor where the shadows' lie. Summary: Great Review
Review: I've read the trilogy many times. However,I'm more interested in any information concerning the artist responsible for the boxed graphics of the early '70's publication. The images abstractly represent the evolution trilogy.I've seen an oblong poster of the entire representation. Print searches of this representation reveal it is long out of print. Please e-mail me if you have any comprehension of my referals. ethrock@ibm.net

Summary: It's great the fifth time!
Review: I have just completed my fifth reading of the Hobbit and the trilogy. My first reading was 25 years ago while in college. I am not a fan of fantasy literature, however Tolkien's extremely detailed world fascinates me and the extensive Middle Earth history he creates intrigues me. Of all the books I have read, these four books are the only ones that I have had a desire to re-read!

Summary: weeping for laurelindorinan
Review: frodo lives, yes, but so do the elves though they have gone over sea and shall not be seen again in middle earth until iluvatar's music is played out and the destiny of men is fulfilled. no one can read the trilogy without feeling an emptiness in the chest, like one would at hearing of the extinction of beautiful creatures because they no longer have a place in this world of men. but "much evil indeed must befall the land ere it forgets the elves if once they abode there", and i believe the truth is few finish this work hearts unchanged.

Summary: well worth reading
Review: the hobbit and the lord of the rings is by far the greastest adult fairy-tail / fantisy ever written. the two towers is a little slow but needs to be read I read it about every third or fourth re-read---but the two towers is still good dont get me wrong. Great suprise ending to. You just have to love a hero with furry feet.
