Summary: This book rocks!!!!
Review: This book is the best book I have ever read. tolkien weaves a tale that rivals the works of Plato. Plus this is more interresting that the Illiad or the Oddysey which seem to drag on forever. I only wish he had written more to this story and that he was still writing.(His works editted by his son are pretty good).

Summary: The History of the World as nobody ever told you
Review: 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' tell the reader the history of the world as nobody ever told it before. If you love Fantasy literature you've already read this for sure. If you love 20th century literature, you can't miss this. Tolkien uses his tales to bring an entire planet to life. The best writer, the best plot, the story you can read in infinite different ways... what you get when you read this book ? The best of the best. You can also share it with your family... Let's just say that Isaac Asimov read it 4 times. (I already read it 4 times...maybe I'll beat him :-)

Summary: Tolken is Best Fiction/Fantsey Writer In The World!
Review: This is a great set of books. A must read.
Tolken has developed whole languages and is a poet as well as a writer. CS Lewis bows the knee to this guy. You HAVE to read these books

Summary: what is it about these books
Review: I've read thousands of books in my nearly three decades on this earth, including many in the fantasy genre (perhaps my favorite kind of book). Yet somehow I avoided reading LOTR until now. Perhaps I was put off by everyone's raving - I've never been one to jump on the bandwagon, preferring always to follow a different path. But finally, having just moved and being without television (good riddance) for now, I decided to give LOTR a whirl. I know that many of the books that I have read owe a huge debt to the trilogy. I was prepared to find an entertaining story that would perhaps be primitive compared to some others I have read. Yet I resolved to be lenient to LOTR, keeping in mind that it was perhaps the first of its kind and didn't have the benefit of decades of polishing and refining that many of its competitors (imitators) had. Well, here is what I found. The story is indeed primitive in some respects to my well-read eyes. The story is slow at times, particularly in "Fellowship". Some concepts have been done better in other fantasy novels. There are many places for improvement in the story, the writing style, and the general concept. Tolkien himself said the latter things in reviewing his work, and he was correct. Many books I cannot put down; I put down the trilogy for days at a time (in defense, I was extremely busy at the time). Now having said all this, give me a big boost and help me jump on the bandwagon. LOTR is the best fantasy fiction I have ever read. Yes, perhaps even the best fiction period. Although LOTR does have many wonderful individual moments, the whole in this case is greater than the sum of its parts. I can't put my finger on what makes these books so compelling, but I have the feeling that I will be reading them again soon. If you like to read, you must read these books. This time, unlike so many other times in life, you can believe the hype. Long live the King!

Summary: This is what you're looking for...
Review: If anybody hasn't read these books yet, jump up and go get them. These are easily the most interesting and beautifully written books ever in the world of fantasy. These books drew me in, and I had to keep reading until I was finished, and that meant 70-80 pages most nights, with school, work, and other obligations. These books are definitely worth reading no question.

Summary: out of my face Shakespeare!
Review: These books kicked major butt! The ending of "Return of the King" was the best part. Who on God's green earth could've guessed that Frodo gets messed up by the ring at the last minute, and then fights gollum and.... well, if you have read the book you know what I am talking about. I am not going to write anymore because it spoils the great ending for people who are not done with the book yet. There are many great GREAT lines that should be famous also.SHAKESPEARE, YOU USED TO BE THE BEST, BUT THIS IS THE 20TH CENTURY!!!!!! GET OUT OF OUR FACES, TOLKEIN IS NOW THE MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: I pity those who have read it...
Review: No, really it deserves a 10 -- just wanted to get your atention. I read the trilogy 3 times now, and was disappionted my second and third time around. I found more the next time, but I did not get that "feeling" like the first time I read the book. I wish I did not read it, this way I could read it for the first time again. Read it and you will understand.

Summary: The Best Books Ever Written
Review: In my opintion, these are the best books ever written. I have read them all at least 3+ times, and I am only 14. Tolkien invents more than one entire culture, language, and people in these epic fantasy novels.

Summary: Not much to summarize: Read it or be not worth talking to.
Review: The world is divided into those who have read "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" and those who are going to read them. (From Sunday Times)
What more can I say? In my eyes, this magnificent story is the one everybody must experience at least once in a lifetime. It is the only book that can teleport you into a world that can only be dreamt of. There is no way of telling this to someone. One only can be "enlightened" by reading it oneself or go through life without a whole new storey added to one's building of experience. Maybe the following part can catch some more interested people:

"A pale smile, like a gleam of cold sun on a winter's evening, passed over the old man's face;
but he bent his head and held out his hand, laying the shards of the horn aside. 'Give me the weapon!' he said."

This book, by the way, is best read in Ireland.
You will definitely find out why.
