Rating: Summary: I've read this almost seven times Review: I don't know if there's need of any other comments. I would read it till the end of my days. One can use the values of the caracters to teach them to youg people or children (the good ones, of course!). I could encourage reading with this, ideed!
Rating: Summary: A must read book Review: Fantasy at its best. No more need be said.
Rating: Summary: Dark is the water of Kheled-zaram... Review: I have ritualised reading it. Every four year, I read it again. I start reading it in winter, and read only one chapter each evening. So it takes about a month or two, but it really is exciting, waiting the time to read and preparing for it. I have found no other books getting close to the experience (perhaps Pardaillan-Series, but that was years ago...)
Rating: Summary: The best book you will ever read in your mortal life Review: The lord of the rings¨ is the best book I've ever read. It's an epic adventure; but strangely, one that isn't so fantastic that you can't believe. It's a story that, inside it's fantasy world, Is actally kinda easy to believe. The caracters are wonderful, the story, amazing, and the world in which Tolkien places this adventure, incredibly complete. I won't ever read a book as good a this in my life unless I clone Tolkien back.
Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy novels of all times? No. Review: I love to write and read and understand the difficulties of writing a really great novel. I read "The Hobbit" with high expectations, having heard how great it was. I mean...it's like a classic, isn't it? I just about died trying to finish the book. It was so boring. There were too many side adventures that were pointless to the story and distracted from the main plot. The book dragged on way to long, and I thought the ending was awful. I think it should have ended right after they killed the dragon, instead of going on about the war over the treasure. The ending definitely took away from the story even more and didn't let the book end with any kind of finality. The story ended but he kept on going. Babbling and babbling and babbling. It was like he started writing the beginning of a new book right at the end of this one. Contrary to what most think I thought this was a terribly written book and series. But you should all probably read it anyway so you can develop your own opinions.
Rating: Summary: J. R. R. Tolkien: Fantasy at it's best! Review: His books are imaginative and thoughtfully created. I can't believe that he had the patience to write a long heck of a book! I liked the idea of the Hobbit. I recommend this book for 10 year olds and above.Ryan Abraham
Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN Review: This was the only book I've ever read (and I read like a maniac) that made me cry... I don't remember a relationship so touching as the wonderful friendship of Frodo and Sam. I've often wondered about what might have happened after the end... This book is at the same time both funny and sad, just as is the complex world it depicts. READ IT, it never gets boring despite its three volumes and over 1000 pages. It's simply The Book for me, and for many more to come, I hope...
Rating: Summary: Tolkien is THE MAN! Review: Whether you're a fan of fantasy or not, you cannot go wrong with this series. The world (Middle-Earth) that Tolkien describes is so realistic that you believe it actually exists. Also, all the elements of a great story are here: companionship, love, fear, loss, hope, and ultimate triumph. No matter what genre you typically read, without a doubt, this is the greatest story ever written. PERIOD.
Rating: Summary: I never grow tried of reading these books. Review: I read these books as a teenager and enjoyed them, but it was until I sat down and read them complete that truely enjoyed them. Now I'm not a Tolkien worshipper, sometimes I find it drags in spots, but it was definetly worth a long weekend. The books have been edited for a number of years now which gives Lord of Rings unfair advantage when compared to the writers of today, but it is a great refference manually for character developement and story continuity. Frodo was definetly my favorite character, read it and enjoy one of the truely unheroric heros.
Rating: Summary: Different than anything you've read. Review: Definitely an outstanding set of books, you expect a great epic, and you get it. In a way. The hero is really not so, but really an anti-hero, a humble creature driven by fate? to a grand destiny. His greatest assets are his luck, and his good feelings. Surrounded by war and violence he never kills anybody and avoids hurting the creature that would kill him if given a chance. Frodo (and for the case so do Bilbo and Sam) is not an "epic" hero, but a real flesh and bone hero. I have read TH & LoTR about three or four times and have allways discovered something different. Don't read it if you expect fast-paced action, or hate intricate descriptions. Read if you don't consider time spent reading as wasted.
