Rating: Summary: The true fantasy for five yrs. old or forty yrs old. Review: The morals portrayed by J. R. R. are wonderful. The discriptions are astounding. No wonder they have not made a good movie of this clasic novel. Keep the faith yea childern, I hope you all keep reading. This is the way to knowledge, which leads to a better society, culture, and world. I am just old with a lot of faith because I read these books 25 yrs. ago. I still have a very good mental state of mind when I think of Bilbo Baggins.
Rating: Summary: This is the fantasy novel that I judge all others by. Review: This is the King of king of fantasy books. I have read each one of them seperately {each part in a different book}. I am now reading the history books {there's 12} about how Middle Earth came to be and its inhabitants, and the rising and falling of Sauron. I have written point of views, and analagies for the "Triliogy" in school, and would love to hear your thoughts ideas about it.
Rating: Summary: Great books Review: Great collection of books, fun to read... recommend them to anyone
Rating: Summary: Broken down old nag of a story Review: I read these books some time ago, so I can only give the general impression of why I dislike them so much rather than any specific reasons. My main problem was that I had seen the story before and better written in many other books. Tolkien's fans probably get hyper or have a fit when they read a book that has drawn its story elements from their classic. Those of us who have read other books first, such as Feist's Magician series, become disappointed in a similar way when we read LOTR, only we are more likely to wonder why such a weak effort ever became a classic. The main weakness of Tolkien's book is that this "masterpiece" is more of a charming, dainty flight of imagination than a compelling drama, filled with interesting characters and fast-paced action.By comparison, Weis and Hickman's Dragonlance saga or Feist and Wurts' Empire series are far and away better stories. The main thing these stories do is grab the reader with irresistable characters who you actually care about, whereas the only care I could come up with in LOTR was to wish someone would slap Bilbo and Gandolf because they seem to think only intermittently.

Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!!!!!! Review: The Lord of the Rings is the greatest trilogy ever written!!! If I could have rated it higher, I would have. (I liked it so much that my screenname is Baggins485!) I am 13 and have read it twice already, and I plan to read it again in eighth grade. This series began my love of fantasy books. Tolkien is a genious! Lord of the Rings reaches a scale of reality unlike any other book I have ever read. It has numerous languages, maps, and a history of thousands of years. The plot is rich, and the characters are believable. The Fellowship of the Ring starts out slow, but it gets very good within a few chapters. And for all you people who think fantasy books are evil, you are wrong; most, like this one, portray the message that good will prevail over evil, and there's nothing satanic about that. Most other fantasy books I have read are basicly modeled after this one--I read an article about the similarities between the Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings, and it was amazing how close the plot lines were--and it is the best of its genre. In the words of C.S. Lewis, ". . .Here are beauties which pierce like swords or burn like cold iron. Good beyond hope."
Rating: Summary: GREAT!!! AMAZING!! Review: This is the best book I've ever read. I exceedingly recommend this book to everyone, both children and adults. The scenery descriptions are amazing, almost as if you're seeing it with your own eyes.
Rating: Summary: Avid Reader Reads BEST BOOK of short 17yr Life!!! Review: My love of fantasy began with this awesome series! I read it for the first time in the fifth grade and have reread it several times since. Each time the characters seem richer, and the story more complete. If your not into intricate descriptions, then you might want to skip some parts, but don't skip this book! It's an experience I have cherished, and recommend for any sci-fi fantasy buff.
Rating: Summary: It's the best!! Review: This is really the best Fantasy book you can buy! Tolkien is an incredibly good author.
