Rating: Summary: One of the best reads, EVER! Review: If you love Camelot, witchcraft, and a spellbinding read, this is the book for you. Based in Arthurian times, "The Mists of Avalon" takes you through the rise and fall of King Arthur in a manner that's easy to follow and hard to put down. The thickness of the book is daunting, but you'll find as you curl up with it over a nice, warm mug of tea that you won't want to stop reading about Arthur, Merlin, Vivane, and Morgana. I sure hope you pick it up because this book is a must for anyone who ever believed in Camelot.
Rating: Summary: I feel Morgaine and I as one Review: I don't think there are any words that I could write that wouldaccuratly described what I thought of this book and how much itimpacted me. The characters in this story gripped the very emotions that we all feel but hide away; lust, confusion and fierce loyalty. And these matters were dealt with in the most eloquent, unforgettable way that a book has ever even come close to doing. I am not a great fan of fantasy, but this novel is about so much more. Each characters represents an element that every human holds, which makes the reader bind to the character and feel their pain and happiness, their joys and anquish. This book literally left me breathless.......and my heart aches for the legend to continue on forever and always be with me. A truly beautiful, extaordinary, captivating book. And no words can do it justice....... END
Rating: Summary: One of the highest caliber reads that I have ever read! Review: Marion Zimmer Bradley has an immensely incredible gift. I would have to say that this was one of the best books that I have ever read. She has an amazing gift for weaving the story in such a fashion that it won't let it's readers go. Enthralling and breath taking. Anyone who is a fan of fantasy should read this book. She is one of the greats...a neccesary read. A landmark in the genre of fantasy!!! MUST READ!!
Rating: Summary: WOW!I was sucked into a magnificent world with the 1st page! Review: THE MISTS OF AVALON is a most compelling book. Never before has the legend of King Arthur captivated me so strongly. Seen from the eyes of Morgaine, the story took on a whole new outlook. It was wonderful! I knew the characters, felt thier feelings. This is a novel for anyone who wants to experiance writing on the highest of levels. I recommend it to all.
Rating: Summary: Amazing book!! Review: You don't have to be a fan of Arthurian literature to read this! The prose is captivating and Morgaine is an ultimately believable charachter. The foremost Arthurian novel, and finaly we hear it from a woman's point of view!
Rating: Summary: Unbelieveable Review: It is amazing how much one book can change your perspective. I was given a copy of "Mists" by my english teacher, senior year in high school. I tried to read it several times, but each time I found myself having trouble getting into the story. Finally, after reading everything in my library, I sat down and forced myself to read it. This time the book grabbed me and hurled me into a world that I never realized existed before this book. I found myself reading about 50-75 pages a night. Sitting up until all hours of the morning reading, looking at my clock and saying to myself "Okay, it's 4am. How long is the next chapter? Can I finish it and still get enough sleep?" The characters are so real and Mrs Bradley paints such a vivid picture of the lands and the times, that you almost feel like you ARE the characters. You share their hopes, fears, desires, and most important, you feel their pain. Any book that makes me feel the characters emotions is a special book.
Rating: Summary: a different point of view puts a new twist on the story Review: Normally one hears of the King Arthur and his evil sister Morgana La Fay. Believe me, I have read almost every possilbe king arthur story, and this is the the accepted tale. The Mists Of Avalon tells it another way. From the eyes of Morgaine and her family, you see the struggle of the Druids to endure in a world that does not see them when they are in the face of the world. It shows the internal struggle of any human grasping and understanding life and religion and what is set before you to do. It does tell the tale most told, but in another manner. It tells of the pagan struggle for identity in a world that was denying them. It tells of ever one's strugle. It has an intriguing plot, you cannot put it down, and from then on you see the world in a differnet light and you endure in your search for more books written by the same brilliant lady.
Rating: Summary: I've just started but i cannot stop .... Review: You don't have to be pagan to read this. It's from a pagan POV but that's what makes this wonderful! The truth (or close to it) is finally revealed! We shall never TRUELY know how things really befell this land. I have just started reading it .. last night i read for hours and hours and hours! I usually can only read for a shart time before my eyes feel tired.. this book is truely wonderful! I managed to stay awake thru the reading of 7 chapters! At first i found it hard to grasp but now, it's smooth flowing. I cannot give it a 10 becoz 10 is the perfect book and that is only an illusion. I give it nine the highest score i can bestow upon books like these. [Ms Vee, Gold Coast, AUSTRALIA]
Rating: Summary: The greatest Arthurian book of all time Review: I have been fascinated by the Arthurian legends for many years ever since I took a class in college about the legends. Ever since then I have read as many books about that subject as I can. Out of all the books the one that impressed me the most and made a lasting impact on my life was Mists of Avalon. No other book has changed my life as much as this one has. It focuses on the female aspect of the legends especially the character of Morgaine. Her struggle to regain the goddess religion out of the hands of the spread of Christianity is marvelously portrayed. I feel that I become one with Morgaine and journey with her. The book is quite long and may seem daunting at first but when I was finished reading it I wished that there was more. In my eyes it was too short. My heart and soul have never been moved by a book as much as they were moved by Mists of Avalon.
Rating: Summary: Aurther is Alive! Review: Excellent, Excellent book I enjoyed It a lot A must read for those who love the ledgened of King Arther. After the first few pages I was hooked!
