Rating: Summary: Haunting... Review: A beautifully written book. I love King Arthur, and this is my favorite retelling. The characters are so real, and the story is ... well, enchanting. Read this with an open mind, especially about religion, and you will find your opinions changed forever.
Rating: Summary: Pity the length and what became of the Authurian legends Review: I loved the book from the start, but it's length is very hard and after a while without enough patience, i almost put the book away...finally i finished it, (an achievement of sorts) i was quite glad for it to end, sad the way it ended, but left questioning still what became after that, who should have led Britan and all. Might be the length, but it gets rather draggy at the end. Still, a good read all the same, i don't reckon i'll be picking the book up very soon, but no doubt i will for sure again.
Rating: Summary: Ah! I understand Review: With many of the aurthurian legends that I have read I been left unsatisfied as if there were not enough tale to tell. Not so with "The mists . ." This book has filled in gaps and reasons why that before left me confused and hungry for more. This book has satisfied my curiosity to understand what exactly motivated these people to do the things they did. Who Merlin was, and exactly what Morgan La Fay represented. How these people interacted made you feel it's realness and not it's legend. You connected with motivations and rooted for almost every one of them at some point. This version made me understand the humanness of the situations and how real the possibility of their existence really is. In this telling you believe, you understand, you weep, you laugh, you even become aroused with the moment. . . If you only read one aurthurian legend, make it this one.
Rating: Summary: This is a reveiw of the book Mists of Avalon. Review: I have read the novel "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I like this book very much, it is really good if you like stuff about King Arthur, how he became king, and why he became king. This book is done in the perspective of the woman behind the Arthurian Legends. It tells a lot about Arthur's sister Morgaine and his Aunt Viviane, The Lady of the Lake, and how they helped interprit the fate of Arthur and the Kingdom of Britain. I would recommend this novel to someone else because I think it is a good novel and that it explains the Arthurian Legends really good. I personally like King Arthur books and legends and as I read this I learned more about King Arthur and the legends. Yes, I would recommend this book to someone who is interested in King Arthur or who would like to know more about him. I have read a few books that were similar to this but I can't recall what they were called, but of the ones I have read I would say this is the best one that I read. Over all this book really flows quite well from subject to subject. There were a few spots that I had to reread over because I was a little confused because of a lot of detail and a lot was going on at the time. There is also a lot of exciting parts plus a few boring parts but it does equal out to be a pretty exciting book.
Rating: Summary: one of the most powerful and captivating books Review: This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read! The Mists of Avalon is Bradley's most captivating book. I started reading it and I couldn't put it down. If I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, wondering what was happening while I was doing somthing else - like it was a movie! It stopped my excersizing and watching TV,it was like an addiction. It was like I was in the novel - and so vivid and I really grew to love and understand the charactures.Mists is extreamely well writejn. I loved reading it and you will too. I would especially recommend this book for women, or for really wonderful guys- anyone who is interested in the most in depth and real story of Camelot and Arthurian times.
Rating: Summary: One of the most beautiful book I ever read Review: Before this book I had little to no knowledge of The King Arthur story. But this book sparked an interest that stayed with me through my many phases. I fell in love with Morgaine because of this book. It made me cry and it made me laugh . . . I stayed up until 4 in the morning so I would be able to finish it. It touched in a place few books ever have. If you read this book I recommend having a box of tissues handy.
Rating: Summary: Cannot GO UNREAD Review: The Mists of Avalon is a wonderful addition to any science-fiction library. This book consists of an intricate introduction followed by a fascinating plot which ends with a captivating end. From beginning to end there is no real way one can describe the pleasure of this reading experience. Any reader regardless of whether or not they admire science-fiction novels well most definitely love this book. The Mists of Avalon portrays the role of women in the Authorian legends, a role rarely seen in films of today. This one novel does great justice to women as "molders" of the world, and gives new meaning to the word mother. Overall there is no one who cannot find joy in reading this outstanding peace of literature.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous and exhilarating tale of fantasy and chivalry!! Review: This book is my all-time favorite!! It captures the most beautiful aspects of Arthurian legend, complete with mystery, chivalry and fantastic tales!! This saga not only captures what the great masters set out to do with King Arthur (including, but not limited to Thomas Malory, Chretien de Troyes or Tennyson), but adds the feminine perspective of chivalry at its utmost. Romance, jousting, mystery, the quest for the Grail, etc. are all presented with such beauty and wit, that the reader is so utterly entranced that they forget the world around them. A highly recommended book for those wishing to escape the criticisms of society to a more civilized and beautiful world of mystery and passion!!
Rating: Summary: A well written book. Need I say more? Review: I wouldn't need to waste words describing how wonderful this book is. There is plenty of that in the past 173 or so reviews. Although the length of the book may become a burden, anyone who can't take it might as well missed out on an epic tale. She has told a story of such immense size is a very short book. And I mean short. All 1000 pages of it. In just the first 300 pages I felt as if I've read a book twice or even three times a long. I'm not commenting on its lengthiness. In fact, I'm amazed at Marion Zimmer Bradley's ability to put so much into such a small book. This is the first of her books that I have read and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I would believe you would too, but that is as always up to you to decide.
Rating: Summary: Great picture of Celtic world Review: If you like ancient history, romance, wars and the Celtic heritage, here's what you need to read!
