Summary: Would give this 6 *stars* if I could
Review: I'm a serious reader. I read classic literature, trashy sci-fi/fantasy, modern horror, mysteries, backs of cereal boxes & the "TV Guide". This novel is in my all-time Top 10 list of favorites. I was perusing the reader comments & felt compelled to add my 2 cents. How someone who professes to be a lover of literature could ignore the charms of this book is beyond me. This novel is a retelling of the Arthurian legend from the point of view of the women involved in King Arthur's life. It's fresh, enlightening, moving, entertaining & so smart. This book is perfect in every way. I recommend this book to everyone I know. It's as much a classic as "To Kill a Mockingbird", "The Color Purple", "A Prayer for Owen Meany" or Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". Do yourself a favor & read this book. Give it to those you love. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: I wonder
Review: I wonder how this happened. One of the mysteries of my life. How did this book get such reviews and such comments?

I'll get to the point... I read a lot of fantasy and also some science books. I've read some BORING technical books on subjects as chaos theory, but this was one of the books I had to struggle most to be able to finish.

In one word. DULL. This could have been a good book, but with 40% of the size or less. Hundreds and hundreds of pages where NOTHING happens.

The characters (or some of their aspects) are a insult to the arthurian legends. Little action happens, this book is WAY too long for what it offers.

It's kinda like a slow SOAP OPERA from a female point of view (example: many lines describing women seweing while warriors are at battle but no details about what is going on outside the castle).

Comparisions to Tolkien are a joke. What has this to do with J.R.R? Do not compare the master to a soap opera writer.

Give me a break, I'd give it 4 stars if it were a 200 page book, but it's really too long for such empty, boring characters.

Summary: Unforgetable
Review: The best Arthurian novel around! Having read this book in my late teens, and passed it on to all my friends, I was touched by this enchanting tale. Yesterday, 7 years on, I finished reading it for the second time, and can only think of it in terms as the quote goes 'a good book is the best of friends'. The entwining love between Moragaine, Arthur, Gwenhyfar and Lancelot kept my dreams alive and left me in tears and heartache at the end. This is definately my favourite book of all time, read it, enjoy it and live in fantasy of what once was.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This was an excellent book. THe depth of the characters and setting was astounding. The whole novel read like a fine work of poetry. I especially liked the way Ms. Bradley switched the tense to each instrumental character. It greatly helped my understanding of the conflicts and characters.

Summary: AMAZING.
Review: The women of Arthurian Legend achieve their full and marvelous potential--for better and worse--in this stunning book. It's a rare book that will inspire me to read more by an author, but Marion Zimmer Bradley's able definition and character depth have carried me through "The Forest House" and "Lady of Avalon" as well. The story is inviting. Once it has you, it doesn't let you go until you've had your fill and you're comfortably sated.

Summary: Simply put, a CLASSIC.
Review: My most favorite book of all time and i've read thousands. This book had such depth of emotionally available characters and history that I never wanted it to end. King Arthur is my ideal man and Marion Zimmer Bradley poured life into him beyond any other retelling of the Arthurian legends. I will reread this book MANY MANY MANY times in my life.

Summary: This is the best book I've ever read
Review: So I'm only 11. But I read a lot. Since September, I've read 43 books, 44 counting this one, and I know that this one has been the best of them all. The author spun a glorious tale that facinated me the entire 876 pages. I really liked that she built up on the women's characters (Igraine, Morgaine of the Fairies, Queen Gwenhwyfar, Queen Morgause, Nimue, Vivien, Lady of the Lake), and Sir Lancelet and some other men's characters, and kind of left King Arthur in the backround, but still with a good character. I was amazed at the way you got to know the people and places.

Summary: Why wasn't there a movie on this book?
Review: This story was so beautifully written that at one time I had to stop to think to myself: was it how it happened? The characters are so alive and full of life that it is impossible not to fall in love with Lancelet and Arthur. This is a must. Everybody should read it. Or at least have it in their bookshelves!

Summary: The most magical book I have ever read
Review: I have yet to read a book that will take me to a place as amazing as this. The author's descriptions are crisp and real to all. Even and 800+ pages I never wantedt this book to be over with.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: my favorite book
Review: It is the best book I have ever read, and my favorite. My english teacher recommended it, and I was expecting a boring plot with boring characters and no excitement, and I was very surprised by it.
