Summary: Powerful Tale of Spirituality
Review: I first read Mists of Avalon more than ten years ago. At the time, I read it on a dare. I was told that I would never make it through its more than 800 pages, so I was determined to do so.I have revisited the novel many times, and have, in fact, re-read it four other times. Each time I see more and more in it. The first reading changed my life, as trite as that sounds. I could not have told you how it changed my life, but I definitely felt my lifeview shift. The novel's messages of "all the gods are one" and "the goddess is within us" and "we are our mothers, our aunts, our acquaintances" are powerful guideposts for those who are seeking. Each time I read the novel, I get a clearer view of who I am and what I believe. Mists of Avalon is a compelling re-telling of the King Arthur legend. Its lessons are also heart-searing.

Review: "The Mists of Avalon" was one of the best books I have ever read! It explores the Arthurian tale from a new and wonderful point of view: that of the women behind the throne. Truly a classic story. I would recommend it for all those who love to read.

Summary: The true interpreter of Arthurian Saga's spirit
Review: You,see,the spirit of chivalry is a spirit of courtesy,of gentlemanly love for friends,women,and all that is good and kind.Unfortunately,the real "cavaliers" of the medieval time,behaved in a very cavalier manner,so the Ideals of chivalry and "amor cortese" were created to show those arrogant and overbearing horse-riders how to behave. The Arthurian legend mixed whit the gentle ideals of the provential trobadours and poets (Chretien de Troyes and Marie De France among them). Summary: A Book Like No Other
Review: As a teenager reading this book, I find myself transported into a different time when women were seen as different people. The book takes you into another world, and lets you explore the time of Arthur through the eyes of a women. Not only do you learn how Arthur ruled, but how he was raise and how he became the last hope for Avalon and the ways of old! This book makes you take a second look at the Christain religion and may even alter your thoughts as to how women are represented by Chrisianity. You will also learn about the Celtics last stand as their own people, how they were run off there land and killed. If you want a book to make you search your iner-self, "The Mists of Avalon" is the book for you!

Summary: The best Authurian story
Review: I have read and re-read this book many times through the years. I believe it is the best telling of the Authurian legend to date--and I have read them all! Marion tells this story through the eyes of the women involved in Author's life. It is a rich tapestry interwoven with many threads of gold and silver--the land, the conflicts, the people. I believe this book should be considered as an important part of the literature in the legends of Author. If you haven't read this book, read it! If you have read it, read it again, for each time you will find things to enrich you. We lost a great author this year when Marion died, but this book and her authors are her legacy to us.

Summary: I LOVE this book!
Review: I was at first reluctant to begin this book. Having glanced at it from the side, I shivered at it's immense size. It is 876 pages to be exact. After the first few lines I was hooked. Marion Zimmer bradley is an amazing writer. She grips you from the first moment and keeps you interested the whole way through. I am fascinated by the poetry of her words and her smoothly carried plot line. The Mists of Avalon is well worth the effort. I recommended it to all my friends! Morgaine, Igraine, Gwenyfar, Morgause, Nimue, Ninaine, Raven, Elaine, as well as the others will never leave my mind as the true heroes of the Arthurian legends.

Summary: The Best Arthur book I have ever read!
Review: I read this book as a teenager, and read many books about the legend before it. I am what I would like to call myself an unorthadox christan (because allot of the churches don't beleve in equlity) and found the book to be non threating to my religion. I urge anyone who reads this to keep a nutral mind to let the true greatness of the book shine through. I have allways been a Morgan le Fay fan, even long before reading this book. I often thought her to be misunderstood, and long awaited a tale with the women in the forground. So you can tell why I enjoyed this particular book. I also love a book with detail so rich, that it paints a picture in my mind. If you want to read a book that is well written, with colorful characters with rich detail that will last in your mind for years, this book is the one. There is finally a non-sexist retelling of the story we all love! I am saddend of Bradlys dimise and will miss reading her books :( Another great book that re-tells a tale of a misununder stood woman is:Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margret George, You will not be disapointed, you have my word on it. :)

Summary: A Remarkable Book
Review: I enjoyed many of Marion Bradley's science fiction works, particularly some of her Darkover series. However I didn't get around to reading this, her most popular title, until recently. Like most other readers, I found this re-telling of the Arthurian Legend to be absorbing and well-told, and I was sorry to see it end. I was especially impressed by how deeply I came to care about the characters. All of them are deeply flawed and very, very human, and this is what makes them three-dimensional. Rather than a standard heroes-and-villains adventure, "Mists of Avalon" features real people struggling with real issues. The central conflict of the story is the rapid growth of Christianity, and the struggle of those who follow the ancient Celtic beliefs to turn back the tide and revive the old traditions. The theological discussions are fascinating; although many readers may find the view of Christianity too harsh, there are genuine exchanges of views among the characters. This is not a case of an author using the story to lecture, as Robert Heinlein did so often in his later work. Bradley is stronger at dialogue than she is at action, and there are places where the story slows somewhat, but these lulls don't last long. This book has been a bestseller since it was published, and it deserves its reputation. Well worth your time.

Summary: A wonderful book
Review: My mother's favorite book was Mists of Avalon. I remember seeing it on the shelves next to her bed when I was teenager. She told me once that it was the best book she had ever read. My mother died when I was 18 and somehow, the book disappeared. For my nineteenth b-day, my best friend(not knowing the history)gave it to me as a gift. I found it amazing that the two people I had felt the most connected with both loved the book. That in itself was enough reason for me to start reading. The length is somewhat intimidating but when you're finished, it seems oh so short. I was intrigued from the beginning. I read every day...all I wanted to do was read. Even though my beliefs are more of the Christian variety, I was touched by the story. Mists... made me treasure the relationship I had with my mother and the bond we had. I will never forget this novel.
