Review: The Mists of Avalon is one of the best books I have ever read. Women especially will like this book as it focuses on strong female characters who have a lot to say. It's beautifully written and descriptive of the time period. I believe this is the best book Marion Zimmer Bradley has ever written and I'm not sure she can top it.

Summary: Fantastic - the story, the characters - everything!
Review: "The Mists Of Avalon" is excellent - the characters come alive when you read it. I was terribly depresed for two weeks when this book ended, because the ending is so tragid. This book is an absolute must for everyone who likes romantic tragedies, exciting fantasy - or just a book, which is excellent written!

Summary: My Favorite
Review: No matter how many new books come out, after reading a few, I unfailingly come back to "The Mists of Avalon." The size of the novel always seems intimidating at first, and then before I know it, I'm turning the last page. And despite the ache in my wrists from holding up the giant literary beauty, I can't help but wish it would never end. "Mists" is really that good. :0)

Summary: Simply Wonderful
Review: This book just grabbed my attention right off the bat. Marion Zimmer Bradly had a lot of history and story behind this book. I never wanted to put it down. The story never legged, but Marion kept it to a level where the story seemed realistic and you could actually picture every seen. This book kinda shows the meaning of what a woman can do if she put her mind to it and conquers all her obtacles. I hope, who ever reads this story, gets out as much as I did and doesn't forget it.

Summary: Superlative
Review: Allow me to preface by revealing that I devour everything even remotely related to the Arthurian legend(s). Thus, it was with a breathless awe with which I reached for this book and found myself staying up late nights in a blizzard-ish attempt to consume all 870+ pages.The story is woven superbly. The characters leap into animation before one's very eyes, recreating the aura of a long-lost age with a brilliance that heretofor I had only known in Orson Scott Card's novels. There is a very thorough, very pronounced sense of setting illustrated by awesome scenery. This was truly a feast for the imagination. Highly recommended to anyone even remotely intrigued by Arthurian romance or whatnot. :-)

Summary: life changing
Review: if you are an extreme Christian, you will probably find this book offensive. I myself am of the 'old religion' (pagan/celtic) but I didn't really know that until I read this book. it really did change my life. as a girl not sure what she was, this book helped me find my answers. it doesn't by anymeans glorify the old religion. nothing is really glorified. it's so beautifully written! every character is a living breathing person with real emotions. Oh! I'v read it so many times. it isn't fast paced, it's true. but that is one of the beautiful things about it! it transports you to a time when life wasn't meant to be lived in a hurry. and it really is the kind of book you can read again and again. some books you can only read once. a beautiful journey into your soul that you'll never forget.

Summary: One of the BEST books I have ever had the chance to read
Review: This book filled me with so many different emotions while reading it. Politics, sexual drama, torn families, religion... I had no idea how long the book was when I read it, because it had me completely enthralled. I devoured it quicker than almost any book I have ever read. I normally dislike reading a lot of pages, but I was so eager to get to the next part of this story, I finished the 876-page book in just a few days. It was a fantastic, well reseached story with many facets to it, I was riveted from the moment I picked it up. Buy this book, you will treasure it. I read it almost three years ago, and am reading it for the second time since then. I am now 20. It is even more enchanting than I remembered.

Summary: My second favorite book of all time
Review: This book shows the world that there are two sides to every story. In this case, the story being the legend of King Arthur. We have come to see the many women in Arthur's life, from his queen Guenivere, to his half-sister Morgan Le Fay as the ultimate seductresses and/or witches, but this book causes you to take a second look. It is seen from the point of view of the women, beginning with his mother and the Lady of the Lake all the way up to the final confrontation with his sister. It shows how the women were the weavers of the quilt that became Arthur's life;it was through their wills and sacrifices that the man became legend. It also humanizes the so called "villains," showing how they made choices and sacrifices as well. Although at times the book does border on incest and sexual explorations, it is a very good book and worth owning.

Summary: Overrated tripe
Review: The popularity of this book continues to amaze me. Like many books written to make a particular point, the author overreaches and undermines her purpose by using a heavy hand. If you want a more balanced Arthur, try Parke Godwin's Firelord. The reaction of the author's fans to the title of this review should clarify the problem with the book.

Summary: Mists of Avalon is enchanting
Review: This is the best Arthurian story I have ever read, probably because it acquaints you with the women in Arthur's life and tells the entire story from a woman's point of view. I have read Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave, etc. and this beats even those, which heretofore were my very favorites. If you want to be enchanted read this book. I will be surprised if you don't read and reread it many times. It is a keeper.
