Summary: The Hobbit To the End and Back
Review: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." Who wrote this line? J.R.R. Tolkien did. This book is a fantasy adventure about a band of dwarves, one wizard called Gandalf, and a hobbit called Bilbo Bagins. Together they embark on a journey to retrieve a lost treasure form a terrible dragon. On their journey they face Trolls, Goblins, and Wood Elves.
This is one of my personal favorites. This is a fantasy adventure like no other. I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy adventures. This book is a prelude to Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Summary: Utterly captivating
Review: This is the story of how Bilbo Baggins obtained the powerful ring and found sources of bravery and courage within himself through his adventures with the dwarves and Gandalf the wizard. I was spellbound within a few pages and was astounded at how energetic and compelling the story is. And this was published in 1937! I believe the reason for the book's longevity is that "The Hobbit" is about a character challenging himself and proving himself (to himself and to others), which is something to which everyone can relate. This is certainly a masterpiece of storytelling.

Summary: what an imagination
Review: When I first read The Hobbit I was 13 and although I did not fully understand everything and the language was not easy I loved it and finished it in a day. I could not put it down. Now I am older (I`m 20) and I see and read books deferently. I judge them and try to be more critical about them, but THE HOBBIT is still one of my favourite books. I admire the author because of his imagination that has no limits. The language is rich and colourfull and the characters very interesting. It is something everybody who want to escape the everyday life and spend at least a couple of hours in a magical world, should read.
We get to know Bilbo - a hobbit that starts on an adventure. he travels trough the Middle Earth with a group or dwarfs. He joins them as a thief (he cam move very quietly) on a quest to the home of the dragon Smaug, who guards an old treasure that origilally belonged to dwarfs. On his way he also meets a strange creature called Gollum and from him he gets a very special and magical object (I will not tell you what it is in case you haven`t heard it, read it, or seen the movie yet :), but you can imagine what it is right?)
It is also the begininng of something much larger, it is the starting point for the Lotd of the Rings.
Tolkien`s source was the celtic and nordic mythology, but he created creatures of hisown also - the Hobbits and also the Vargs. He created a new elven lenguage.
It is less complicated than Lord of the Rings and notably written for a slightly younger public, but it is one of the masterpieces of fantasy and it always will be.

Summary: There And Back Again
Review: Want to know the background to the Lord of the Rings? Want to know how Bilbo Baggins really got his magic ring? Want to know more about Hobbits? Look no further.

The Hobbit is a delightful book about Bilbo Baggins' journey with 13 dwarves to recover their lost riches beneath the Lonely Mountain, taken by Smaug the dragon. Encouraged by Gandalf the wizard, he sets off with 13 dwarves on a quest to recover the hidden treasure beneath the mountain. On the way he has many adventures, including finding a magical golden ring which makes him invisible-not bad in hiding from enemies! He also meets wood elves in the forest of Mirkwood, fights wolves and giant spiders, is rescued by giant eagles, and finally returns home with his share of the dragon's treasure. One of the best chapters is where he finds the ring beneath the Misty mountains, and has to win a riddling game with Gollum to get out of the deep caves where he is lost.

It's written mainly for children around the 10 year range, but older readers will find a refreshing tale of hobbits, dwarves, elves, men and wizardy; courage and light-heartedness, and learn much about the background to the Lord of the Rings as well. If you intend to read all of J.R.R.Tolkien's books, you should probably read this one first, as it was the first to be published, and is set just before the events of the Lord of the Rings take place. It isn't too long, and is almost certainly going to be made into a feature film eventually, after the Lord of the Rings is finished screening I'd say.

Oh, and one more thing, the best edition is definitely the illustrated edition by Tolkien artist Alan Lee-his artistry is exquisite!

Summary: The Adventure of an Imagination
Review: The hobbit is about the adventures of a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. A hobbit is a little person that lives in the land of Shire. It all starts with Bilbo Baggins, not found of adventures at all! He just likes to live in the comfort of his little hobbit hole. Then along comes thirteen dwarfs accompanied by a wizard named Gandalf. They come to him with a quest. A quest to get their town and treasure back from a dragon named Smaug. They just need one more person for their journey. That person is to be a burglar, and you guessed it, that burglar is Bilbo Baggins! The hobbit goes through many fasinating adventures in this book that are mind-popping and so enjoyable to read. Read the hobbit to find out about the adventures of Bilbo Baggins!

Boy, I sure loved this prelude to the Lord of the Rings! It is so fascinating to read about the adventures Bilbo gets into as the book gets nearer and nearer to the end! If you read this and love it like I do, then I suggest you start reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But, read The Hobbit first! In this book, Bilbo finds a ring that somehow makes him invisible. But that's not all the ring does or creates! there is an evil master to that ring and put the two together, well Houston we got a problem! Frodo, Bilbo's cousin by blood, but now his adopted son because Frodo's parents died in a boating accident has a quest to distroy that awful ring in the fires of Mordor.Read the Lord of the Rings trilogy for more fantasy adventure!

Summary: Yep another review!!
Review: I first read this book back in 1991 for my 9th grade English class and I have read it several times since. Although I have not read it in the past few years. I was caught up in the hooplah over The Fellowship of the Ring movie. Went to see it, and like many others decided to read the books again, but I couldn't make myself sit down to The Fellowship of The Ring without rereading The Hobbit once again, and once again I was drawn into the land of Middle Earth, and what a breath of fresh air it was. I use to enjoy reading fantasy a great deall, but after a while I grew tired of reading the massive books by Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, and others nd found new interest in Japanese literature and history, but that is beside the point. The Hobbit is a wonderful tale of a Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, his 13 Dwarven companions, and Gandalf the wizard. Mr. Baggins ventures far from his comfy home and battles trolls, goblins, giant spiders, and plays riddles with Gollum. He meets elves, Beorn the man who can shift into a bear, and great eagles. Tolkien tells this wonderful story without the gore and sex that glut today's fantasy novels coughs*Terry*Goodkind*coughs. A wonderful story. Also about Tolkien being racist. Is it because the dwarves, elves, and men don't get along. Nextthing you know overweight people will complain because of Bombur the fat dwarf!

Summary: Bilbo's Journey
Review: Bilbo Baggins the hobbit was just about to have his tea one Wednesday when his doorbell suddenly rang. He instantly remembered that Gandalf the wizard was going to have tea with him that day. To his great surprise, thirteen dwarves in addition to Gandalf ended up at his table that afternoon. Thorin and Co., as the dwarves called themselves, were in need of a fourteenth member of their group to assist them on their quest to get back gold and other riches the dragon Smaug had stolen from them. Bilbo obliged and accompanied the band of dwarves on their rescue mission. On many occasions during his journey, Bilbo wished that he were back home, but once his duty was complete, Bilbo never regretted going with the dwarves.

With an unexpected ending and great descriptions, I would undoubtedly recommend this book. Despite a slow and boring beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Hobbit. I really liked how this plot was so unpredictable. Thorin and Co.'s journey took so many enexpected turns that it kept me on my toes and really into the book.
