Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: I thought that The House of the Scorpion was engaging and really wonderful to read. I don't normally like science fiction, but this book really kept me interested in the plot and didn't wander like a lot of science fiction does. I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read!

Review: Nancy Farmer is my favorite author and this is my favorite book. Couldn't put it down. More than intregue, this book has a consciousess raising effect that seeps in. The story is riviting. Highly recommended for adventurers of all ages. I'm 54 and usually only read non fiction. However, when Farmer publishes a book, I read her tales. Enjoy!!!

Summary: Chilling
Review: This is a book about a boy named Matt, who is a clone living in the future. He is the clone of a drug lord called El Patron, who is the ruler of a country named Opium, on the border between the USA and Mexico, where opium is grown using eejits, which are humans that are brain-dead and follow a computer chip. The plot focuses on how Matt learns the truth of his existence and trys to escape from it.
This book felt too real to be fiction. It's interesting, and the plot unfolds itself in a satisfying manner, but it's not the type of book you want to read before going to bed. It touches on a number of controversial topics, and some people may find this rather too intense. However, it's a great read. I couldn't put it down.

Review: It is terrible they talk about killing.

I thought it would be interesting because it was at my school bookfair and the title sounded neat but as I read it seemed to be about putting people down.

Summary: Excellent Science Fiction
Review: When my 6th grade son decided to read The House of the Scorpion and do a book report on it, I read the book. I LOVED IT!! The book is wonderfully written. I don't usually read sci-fi because the characters don't seem to have any feelings, and the story is usually so far-fetched. This sci-fi book had wonderful characters whom I fell in love with, and a wonderful plot. Matt is a clone of a powerful drug-lord, El Patron. This book is about Matt's discovery of being a clone, the discovery of the loathing many people have for clones, the love he is showed by some people in spite of being a clone, and how he escapes being used as "spare parts" for El Patron to live longer. Excellent read! I highly recommend this book. I even bought it in Hardcover for my other children to read when they are old enough.

Summary: The House of the Clones
Review: (...)

Matt was just a normal boy, so he thought, and he was never taught any different. There wasn't any way he could know any different until he met other people besides his care taker Celia. Most everyone he met said one thing to him, "dirty clone," Then just ignored him until he left. Matt could never figure out why it was so bad to be a clone until he started to get older, figure out things like most clones had there brains mashed when they first came in to the world. If clones were so bad then why was he created? Then one day he found out his purpose, he was just a organ donor to the original!

This was a great book, but it is all a opinion because if you do not like sci-fi stories you will probably hate this book. It was very well written, and it just flows right through your mind. If you have read the Ear the Eye and the Arm you probably know what I am talking about. I don't really like reading that much because I am really picky about what I read. If it doesn't flow through my brain I won't want to read it. This book also had a very interesting plot, and it gave some good out look on how cloning human beings could be such a horrible thing.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes sci-fi or books by Nancy Farmer either way you will enjoy this book. It is just a all around good book.

Summary: an excellent read
Review: A riviting book. The villan is truly chilling. The hero is trying to find out what he is. I couldn't put it down. If you like science fiction you'll love this. Even if you don't, try it!

Summary: Recommended for any age!
Review: There seems to be a wonderful standard for so-called "y/a" fiction that is slipping in adult fiction.

This book is a great example. Beautifully written with rich, complex characters, THE HOUSE OF THE SCORPION deserves many awards, in addition to the Newberry Award it has.

The lead character is a child named Matt, who is treated like a pet. Some pets are pampered, some are abused and neglected, and Matt endures all this and everything in between. He is loved, but most people hate him because he is a clone. The hatred is expressed in shockingly virulent ways. There are heartbreaking passages describing how this bright, talented child survives incredible abuse and neglect. Matt's resilience and spirit are so inspiring, you will be moved, but not be depressed by these scenes.

There is a wonderful sense of immediacy in the descriptions of the huge estate where Matt lives--the center of a drug lord's empire.

Matt has people who care for him: a cook with other "special" talents, a bodyguard with a dark past, and a sweet-hearted little girl. They serve as a surrogate family for Matt in the drug lord's wealthy household. The most compelling character is the ancient drug-lord himself; Matt is his clone, and loves him, even though the old man is corrupt and evil.

The engaging and complex characters alone would make this novel stand out, but there is also an excellent plot and story. A bildungsroman perfect for any bright young person, or any adult who craves good fiction.

Summary: The House of the Scorpion
Review: I thought this was one of the best books I ever read. It was so intrigeing. You constantly want to know what happens next. This one ranks in one of the best fifteen books I've ever read. It's just that good. Rarely do I come across a book as good as this one. It's just amazing. If you're looking for an exciting book with adventure in it, this is it. Trust me you'll love it. It's about a young boy who lives with Celia, a woman who works in the great house as a cook, and soon learns that he is the clone of El Patron, the owner of the great house, and soon embarks on a wondorous journey through many places...
