Summary: To Omit This Book from the List of the Best 25 Books...
Review: ...of the Twentieth Century is like calling the Illiad and the Odyssey pulp fiction. Geez! Suffice to say, if the human race is still around several centuries from now - no sure thing, mind you - I'd bet the house this book will have survived and remained required reading, along with Homer and Dante and Shakespeare et al. It is a classic, one of the few of the century. In it you will find an extremely literate, yet readable, synthesis of Western folklore and mythological tradition blended within the author's unique fantasy creation of a world full of honor, reasoned passion, and of course, heroic adventure. If you haven't read this book, I envy you the moment you pick it up to do so, for you are about to enter a magical time and place unlike any imagined.

Summary: You MUST READ these books
Review: If you haven't read these books, you really need to. (Ok, the Bible is more important, so read that first, but then run out and read Tolkien. And as an added bonus if you dig into the Simarillion you'll actually find a lot of similarity between the two).

Unlike 98.3% of contemporary fiction, reading the Lord of the Rings actually requires something of its reader: a brain. You will be expected to think. And, upon doing so, you will find yourself richly rewarded, because there is a lot here; enough to re-read over and over and over again. And it just keeps getting better (yes, just like the Bible).

Now, as for these few schmucks who actually offered poor reviews on LOTR...they really ought to have their diplomas revoked (I know, assuming they have actually earned a certificate of higher education may be a stretch). The gist of their arguments runs something like this: "Uh, it wuz realy slow, and uh, I dunno know why people think its great, becuz itz not like Star Trek, dude".

Of course, astute readers like yourself will quickly recognize the problem: "Duh...YOU are really slow (dude)". The real issue is that the LOTR is NOT like all the other garbage they are used to assimilating. To those accustomed to a steady diet of junk food and soda, a magnificent seven course meal is understandably a little hard to digest. It's called "culture" (dude). Fortunately, Tolkien will be around longer than anything these folks produce. No worries there!

So do yourself a favor and expand your horizons. Start with a copy of scripture, and then add Tolkien. Master these two genre's, and you will do well.

Summary: The ultimate reading experience...
Review: The first time I ever saw the name Tolkien was in a drugstore. Looking at the books on a carousel there was one which caught the eye - a weird looking landscape made up of purples and blues, with strange black figures on horses flying through the air. The author's name meant nothing, but the cover was enough to get it sold. I didn't realize then that it was only the beginning of a journey, one which started in 1965 at the age of nine. It began a search for the other books (back then not an easy thing) and a world filled with strange creatures, honest feelings and sometimes betrayal. Because it was the first Tolkien I'd ever read, "The Two Towers" is still my favorite. If your looking for excessive violence & language, these are not the books for you. If your looking for something that can surprise and delight, then read everything the professor has written about Middle-earth. This is a world unto itself, well worth the time spent traveling along the hobbits' road.

Summary: I was 5 when I first met hobbits and I visit them every year
Review: My mother gave me a compilation of children's stories, in which "An Unexpected Party", the first chapter of The Hobbit, was included, when I was 5 years old. I immediately demanded a copy of "The Hobbit". I read it in 3 days. I found Middle Earth much more satisfactory than our Earth and then demanded a trip to the library for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I read that in 2 weeks. I live in that world whenever I can. I have worn out innumerable copies of The Hobbit and LOTR. Now that I'm thirtysomething, I haven't read either in the last few years, adulthood has robbed me of the time to spend all day reading. But whenever I need to escape I can sit back and close my eyes and instantly be transported to my preferred world and in my mind fly up into the skies of Middle Earth, like a great eagle, and down to whichever point in the story I wish. Never has any writer pulled me into his world so completely as has JRR Tolkien, nor made me long for the comfortable companionship of its inhabitants and familiar landscapes.

Summary: A MUST READ !!!
Review: This is the best (3) Book(s) i've ever read. Every time I read it, I always spot something new, and it just gets better and better ... I've already read "The Hobbit", "Silmarillion", and "Unfinished Tales", but LOTR is the best. If you read it, there's no way you won't like it.

Summary: The Best Book ever written and the best World ever imagined
Review: When I was 16, (Now I am 21) I was bad in English; I didn't like to read anything. One day a friend of mine advised me to read "The Lord of The Rings", I refused at first but then I thought to give it a try. When I started reading I was continuously drawn to the story and drastically immersed in its storyline and world. After I completed it I thought in my mind "Wow". Then I bought all of Tolkien's books. During these five years I have re-read LOTR about 15 times (Sometimes causing me to fail a few tests) and I have became a hardcore fan of the Fantasy and Science fiction novels (mainly Isaac Asimov). I recommend this book and feel sorry for everyone who hasn't read it yet.

Summary: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, YOU SHOULD READ IT AGAIN
Review: I know many people have different tastes in literature, and that is fine. But for someone to read the Lord of the Rings and say it had no feelings and wasn't great is missing the picture. The story is about myth and fantasy. Before this work, how much imagination was present in modern literature? Tolkien spent most of his life creating a world, describing every stone and blade of grass, and forming entire languages for its inhabitants. When I first read it, it was difficult to get involved in the story. So I read it again at a later time, and you know what? Each time I read it I discover something I missed before, and only then can you truly discover the magic of Tolkien's work. Please don't be too hasty in your judgement !!!!!!!

Summary: The best book I have ever read
Review: I am 19. When I was 15, my friends encouraged me to read this book. I have read all the Tolkien's books in Spanish, and also I have read The Lord of the Rings in English. This is for me the BEST book I have ever read: Tolkien is able to take us to a world of fantasy, telling an epic story with perfect descriptions. The fame this book and his author have won are not exagerated.
