Summary: The Only Book That Can Be Called "The Greatest"
Review: This book is so great that no words can describe it. To anyone: everyone, if you love to read or not, EVEN IF YOU ARE ILLITERATE, get this book immediately! It is the most compelling battle of good against evil, and you will be left wondering how the hell did Tolkien come up with such stuff! If you say you don't like this book you are lying. Saying Lord Of The Rings is not the greatest book ever is an act of high treason!

Summary: Tolkien is Brilliant! LOTR is an unforgettable masterpiece.
Review: I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I will not say that I disagree with so-and-so's review on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Personally I have a very, very strong affection for this book and I think it is truly one of the most beautiful works of literature. Tolkien's imagination is mind-blowing. I understand that some people may find the songs and poems tedious to read, but I think it is these songs and poems which bring a certain magic to the whole story. Tolkien's writing is simple but elegant and beautiful. I thought that many of the characters were given great depth, and I became especially fond of Gandalf and Sam! And one of the things I really loved about this story was that the 'hero' who embarked on the quest to destroy the Ring was a little hobbit and not some stereotyped handsome hero you read about in so many books. This goes to show that everyone - including little plain people - can be a hero in our own way, as long as we have the heart to reach our goals.
I have read other fantasy stories, but somehow I just don't find them even remotely as captivating as Tolkien's LOTR. Reading this book opened up a whole new world to me, and it was indeed a wonderful, unforgettable experience. I read this book in high school, and I've been reading it at least once every year since. I never tire of it. And I am looking forward to the movie, it really does look amazing!

Summary: The Lord Of The Rings Is Racist
Review: It is a disquised South African White supremist fairy tale.

Summary: One of the best bokks ever written...
Review: In my case I started reading this book like this :

Aha, some Fantasy..., hmm let's look at it.

Then I read the first page, the second one , the third and then I couldn't stop reading anymore.
This book is just fantastic.
Tolkiens imaginations of middle earth and its inhabitants are told so brilliant, an incredible imagination to every reader.
If you haven't read it already, do it.

P.S. Hope the movie will be as good as the book is!!!

Summary: If I were stranded on a desert island, I'd want this book.
Review: In 1970 I read "The Lord of the Rings" for the first time. It was like nothing I'd ever read, and it kind of spoiled fantasy for me ever since, because I started with the best and nothing else measures up (well, maybe Narnia). I've read it pretty much every year since, including once out loud to my children. In 1978 my husband gave me the red-leather volume as a wedding present, and it's one of my prized possessions. I have other copies to sling around, but I keep that one at home to read carefully and reverently. I don't know if it's real leather or not, but it's certainly beautiful. Ringers call it the "Red Book", after Bilbo's Red Book of Westmarch. If I close my eyes I can call up the evocative smell of its pages, and see the beautful elven calligraphy in the margins. My husband also gave me the companion volume of "The Hobbit" in green leather. If you get this book, you should get that as well.

Summary: Bring on the BBC!
Review: Having purchased and listened to both the Mind's Eye and the BBC audio versions of The Lord of the Rings, I implore Tolkien fans eager for some aural splendor to put their faith in the BBC and skip this dreadful reenactment entirely. Ian Holm and the rest of the BBC cast are superb. With the exception of the much mourned bombadill banishment from the saga, the BBC's attempt is far superior storytelling that will enliven your imagination as opposed to forcing you, as is the case with Mind's Eye, to forever equate Samwise with a castrated smurf.

Summary: A true classic
Review: Though I still have some pages to finish of this one-volume novel, I must say that it has been quite a book. Tolkien definitely knows how to keep his readers interested throughout, and the Lord of the Rings truly works better as a single novel than three separate books, with the pacing of the story. I'll not say anything about the plot: it's quite famous, and there is no need to elaborate on it. If you want to know the story, then you should go read it.
J.R.R. Tolkien has some wonderful characterization and seems to be good at making multiple plotlines, involving different groups of characters at different places, really showing how vital each is to the grand scheme of things. A great telling.

The reason why I do not give this book five stars, though, is mainly because it really seems to drag sometimes. During my reading of "The Fellowship of the Ring" at the beginning and "The Two Towers" I had to force myself at some points to continue, though that was near the end. Now I am nearing the end of "Return of the King" and am quite saddened at the fact that these adventures are drawing to a close, but I am quite happy with the way the story is ending so far. Definitely a must read for anyone that claims to be a fan of the fantasy genre.

Summary: One of the Greats.
Review: This book has to be one of the seven great literary works.
It feels inpired, It has a depth to it & is replete with a great richness, which as far as I know has not been matched. The maps, Characters, emotional-content & the illustrations are all pure gold. ALL of this modelled on the old eternal struggle Between Light & Night, Freedom & Slavery.
