Summary: The Lord Of The Rings
Review: This is one book very close to my heart. I first read this book when I was eight - that's about six years ago now - and I find it extremely sad that everyone has cought on how wonderful this book is after the movie came out. The movie was simply brilliant, and i have nothing against it since it was just to the book. But when it comes to literature as great as this, why did people turn a blind eye? I'm glad that people are reading it now...it is definitely a must read book...but it just makes it a cult book, such as Harry Potter, and although it is a very good book, it cannot rival a classic like this.

This collector's edition is stunning. I had the paperback edition of all three books in one, where there was a painting of gandalf on the cover. The contents of that book and this one are the exact same, but unfortuneately a leak from my air conditioning wrecked my book collection. But this leather bound edition is beautiful, and is definitely one of those things that is to be handed down from generation to generation.

Summary: There is nothing more to say about this book...
Review: I am too small to write a review on the Lord of the Rings..One of the best books ever in all genres and surely the best in Fantasy..Everything from there and after maybe good, but cant be that good..It is the standard for comparison, though every comparison pales..
I wanna say one more thing about the guy who works as a programmer in Hasbro..I am deeply sorry that the guys who maybe will design the RPG of LOTR ,dont like the book...and my friend,if you are in the team of the designers, send me an e-mail,so I dont buy your product..no offense...

Summary: Excellent...
Review: These books are amazing. If you like fantasy or science fiction in any way, you must at least try these books. Even if you aren't a fantasy fan, you will be sucked into Tolkien's amazingly deep second reality. Awesome...get it, you deserve it.

Summary: Pure Genious
Review: The Lord of the Rings trilogy is simply a work of genious. Full of hobbits, elves, orcs, and dwarves you become completely absorbed in it. I have only one complaint...I wanted it to be longer!

The whole concept of the book is amazing in the first place, and JRR Tolkien makes it come alive. You will be on the edge of your seat half the time, perspiring from your anxiousness.

It's about a hobbit, Frodo Baggins, who inherits a ring that can rule the whole world if it goes into the wrong hands. Frodo and his fellowship that will take the journey with him, (Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Gandalf the Wizard, Aragorn, Boromir, and Merry, Pippin, and Samwise the Hobbits), are set on destoying the ring by throwing it into the fire chasm of Mount Doom. One by one, the fellowship will eventually turn on Frodo, and so he has no choice but to leave on his own with Sam, who will be a great help. With enemy orcs and spies swarming Middle Earth, it is an almost impossible task he has undertaken.

I don't want to give away anymore, but i highly suggest reading this book, or at least seeing the movie. It is jam-packed with twists and turns, suprises, and wonderful in depth descriptions. Definatly a must read!

Summary: The greatest book ever written
Review: It is funny how weak the negative reviews of this book are argued and how strong the favorable reviews are. I'm sure most of the negative reviews come from those who never heard of LOTR until after they heard the mainstream media hype and saw the movie.

First of all, to call a book that is barely 1100 pages long and boring does not say much for ones reading skills or their life in general. This is just plain laziness. Did it take you a week to read the first 100 pages? Can you focus on anything in life for more than 4 Mtv minutes?

Secondly, to say there is to much detail in the description of landscapes and too many characters is preposterous. Again this argument relates to length and focus. This is an EPIC!! Look it up. There is a book called the bible that has many more characters and is fascinating as liturature. These are the same people who don't understand Joseph Campbell. One of the main themes of the book is stewardship of the earth. Tolkien was in love and concerned with the welfare of the earth. He is writing in a travelogue style of the world he created the same way as John Muir, Bruce Chatwin, Edwin Wilson, and Bill Bryson write of this world. Anyone who does'nt get this should get off the computer out of the house and travel to become connected with their environment.

Thirdly to say there is little magic in this fantasy novel is again preposterous. After Tolkien the use of magic in fantasy novels increased and have become a deus ex machina device for all the following less than skilled authors to write less than inspirational work. The lack of reliance on this device is a monument to Tolkien's skill as a writer.

To use any of these points as a basis for a negative review is admiting you did'nt understand the work and what Tolkien was communicating. This results in the negative feelings you have for the book.

Summary: The Best Book Ever Written
Review: The Lord of the Rings is the best book I have ever read. I dought that I will ever read anything that will even come close to this. The collector's edition is nice because it has all three volumes in one, a fold out map, and a nice leather cover. I reccomend this book for anyone who likes to read good books.

Summary: Lord Of The Rings Volume One & Two
Review: It was a piece of crap. This book was one of the worst books i have ever read.
I read it once and could barely fumble through it. The charaters, as in some books, don't lack depth, they DROWN in it. there are WAY to many PASSIVE sentinces. I mean, come on, each page is usually about 3/5 discribing the landscape and telling us useless information about what I care about and about 1/5 of the pages are used for 'character devlopment'. This is good, and what i personally look for in the FIRST chapter, but this is used THROUGHT THE ENTIRE BOOK. I even fell asleep reading it. I mean WOW.

I do, though, give him credit for the world that was created. I appreciate it given my masters in languages and bachlors in world creaton. (I work as a software devloper at Hasboro Games.)
He makes in quite vivid with details, but way to many detail. I feel that i could walk into the book, but once i do i would find as much fantasy and magic and exitement as i would walking outside of my house, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.

If you have never read the LOR then you should, decide for yourself how crappy it really is.

Another reason i would like to make to 'wrap up' this review is about the FANTASY in this book. It is amazing that there is hardly any MAGIC in this book.

WOW, this book was sure great, until i read it.

Summary: Most fantastic story ever written.
Review: By now everyone realizes that Lord of the Rings is one of the most fantastic stories ever told. I originally wanted to rush through the book to the end only to find that I was very sad that it was all over in "just" 1008 pages.

This particular edition/printing hardback is great. The pages are completely white with a high quality feel to them, whereas the paperback version of this book was quick to have the binding crease and the paper was more of a dingy look to it that is common in many cheaper books. I feel that if you get Lord of the Rings, you're going to be handling it a lot to get through 1000 pages of it, which will make the other paperback editions look quite terrible after you've finished reading it.

That is not the case with this edition since it is well bounded and the pages are easy on the eyes.

Finally, I rarely see people mention it, but I don't think Tolkein is not for the younger readers simply due to the vocabulary. Be prepared to buy a nice dictionary with this book. Anyone that claims to have read this book without using the dictionary a few times hasn't read this book.

Great book. Great binding. Great bargin. Great edition with excellent appendix to explain certain elements of the book.

Summary: A classic of amazing and astounding magnitude
Review: I enjoy these books very much. Tolkien was a big fan of mythologies and legends, but the country in which he lived, England doesn't have too many of them. There are a few, yes, but the very old ones are practically non-existent.
So what was he do to when there were none of the ancient legends and mythologies that his mind craved? He invented one!!
That's exactly what Tolkien did, and if you didn't know better, you would think that it was an ancient tale handed down from generation to generation. The story is extremely well told, the whole universe of Middle-Earth is ingeniously well thought up, and a pure demonstration of Tolkien's ability to visualize and picture fantastic things and almost telepathically write them down for others to read and be entangled by Tolkien's thoughts. The descriptions are so perfect that you feel you're visiting the same universe as Tolkien did. This is why The Lord of the Rings became a classic, and still is a classic today. There will of course always be people who - despite how good the tale is - will want to think the opposite of everyone else, but I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't enjoy this book to it's fullest, which is a lot!

Summary: Here are beauties...
Review: CS Lewis once said, "Here are beauties that will pierce like a sword or burn like cold iron. Here is a story that will break your heart."

What else can be said on the matter? Not much. The Lord of the Rings is a truly beautiful book; the epitome of fantasy, and perhaps of all literature. It has everything: adventure, romance, suspence, horror, and any other genre one could possibly imagine. If our century is remembered for nothing else wonderful and good, we still have The Lord of the Rings to our credit.

And reading it in a beautiful red-leather edition doesn't hurt.
