Summary: The Masterpiece of a Master Storyteller
Review: I know that I said that The Hobbit was John's best work, but then again this is the second part to that legacy. Of course this book gets tedious and boring at parts. But it is still a phemonal epic fantasy! It has real emotion and exciting battle scenes with orcs, trolls, Ringwraiths and more! I consider myself a lover of LOTR and I'm seized by everything affliated with it. So read this book and enter the cult sorounding it!

Summary: A classic for the generations
Review: What else can I say about this book that hasn't been said before? It's without a doubt the best thing that I have ever read! That's why this review mainly focuses on this specific edition of the book. I own four different editions of The Lord of the Rings, but this one is by far my favorite. I've had it for about five years now and it's still in excellent condition. It has been read through numerous times, but it still doesn't show any wear. The appendixes in the back are excellent as well. My one complaint is that only one fold out map is included. The map that is included is a large one of Middle Earth. In some hard-bound editions of Return of the King (the last book of the trilogy) a fold out map that details Mordor is included. Other than that, this collectors edition is perfect! Highly recommended!

Summary: This is a fan's edition
Review: I highly reccomend this edition to anyone who considers themself a fan of the Lord of the Rings. If you are reading this, you probably already know you like the story. This edition is great for a few reasons. It puts all three books together they way they are meant to be read. I also like it because it is very sturdy and quite good looking on the shelf. This book is meant to be read again and again and still look good. As a nice added bonus, there is a big fold out map in the back that can be helpful if you have trouble visualizing where everything is.

This edition may be a bit more expensive than others, but it is well worth it. I have no doubt that I will still be enjoying this book 20 or more years from now.

Summary: The One Ring
Review: The Lord of the Rings is an amazing page-turning fantasy action/adventure novel that is set in the magical world of Middle-Earth. Written by J.R.R. Tolkein in 1954, this story has stood the test of time as people have read and re-read it and still do even today, thrilling generations before and many more to come.

The three books in The Lord of the Rings trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King have been conveniently compiled into a single book in this edition. And for die-hard Tolkein fans who want a better understanding of the story and background, and who are ever-thirsting for more, attached to the end of the novel are Appendices, which include: Chronologies, Family Trees, Calendars, and even a little bit on the unique languages that Tolkein created, along with Indexes of all songs, people, beasts, monsters, places, and things, and best of all, Maps...

The descriptive language used in the novel and also Tolkein's attention to detail immerses you in the epic journey, making you feel as if you are there with them as you recreate the setting exactly as Tolkein intended in your imagination. Tolkein, obsessed with linguistics, even creates languages so that it feels so authentic, you will come to think of the story not so much as a dream, but more like a memory.

This novel is a sequel to The Hobbit, also by Tolkein, which tells the story of Bilbo Baggins' journey through Middle-Earth and how he came into possession of the Ring. Many years have passed since his return to his home in the Shire and one day, he mysteriously vanishes, leaving the Ring to his cousin, Frodo.

The Lord of the Rings documents the journey of Frodo Baggins as he, along with his companions, travel deep into the heart of Mordor, the domain of the malevolent Sauron, to destroy the One Ring in Mt. Doom, where it was forged. On the way, they encounter creatures and evils that they never have imagined could even exist! Some are helpful and become their friends, while others are more than what they seem...

This good versus evil struggle unites the seemingly timid Hobbits, a powerful Wizard, a tough Dwarf, a mysterious Elf, and Men into an unbreakable friendship to make a legendary journey together through Middle-Earth to battle the evil forces of the Dark Lord in a spellbinding tale that you will never forget!

Summary: The Lord of The Rings
Review: Book By: J.R.R. Tolkien

In prehistoric times, the Rings of Power were prepared by the Eleven-smiths. Eleven-smiths made important tools, and in this case dominating rings. Sauron, the Dark Lord, needed the One Ring. He needed this Ring to over-power every living thing, such as a person, and especially, the hobbits. The problem that is stopping Sauron from doing so, is the One Ring that was taken from him. Even though the One Ring was sought after throughout the Middle-earth (which is a place), it remained nowhere to be found, to Sauron. After many ages, the Ring fell by chance into the hands of the hobbit, named Bilbo Baggins.
From his stronghold in the Dark Tower of Morder, Sauron's power spread all over Hobbiton and throughout the world. Sauron gathered all the great kings, but always he searched for the One Ring that would make the Dark Lord dominant.
On Bilbo's 111th birthday, he vanishes, bequeathing to his adopted young cousin, Frodo, his One Ring. Frodo now finds himself with many quests, such as a hazardous quest to a journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord (Sauron), and to destroy the Ring by putting the Ring into the Cracks Of Doom.
This story tells the immense, mission undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring. Nothing could have been done without the help of, and distractions of Gandalf (the wizard), Merry, Pippin and Sam (the hobbits), Gimli the dwarf, Legolas the elf, Boromir (of Gondor), and a large, mystifying stranger called Strider.
I enjoyed this book because it always had something happening, and that makes the reader want to never stop reading The Lord of The Rings.
My favorite character is Gandalf (the Wizard), who is so knowledgeable. I also enjoyed the mystery of Strider.
I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys books that have something going on at every moment, people who like cliff-hanging chapters and action. People must like action and a little bit of mystery to enjoy The Lord of The Rings. I really loved reading this long book, and I would love to read it again!

Summary: The One Ring to Cherish
Review: The Lord of the Rings is a great and epic journey of fear, power, and greed. It is an extraordinary peace of work and one of the best of classics. A must have. J.R.R Tolkien combines action, adventure, betrayal, suspense, love, and imaginary creatures of distant lands to create a literary masterpiece. Be ready to be pulled into the land of Middle-Earth and explore its beauty. Surprises will come at you at every turn and will keep you on your feet. The story will make you laugh, feel sad, and even scared. The distinct characters of the Company are exciting, with distinct personalities and their own roles in the plot. Environments flow with description and set the moods for the story. The use of old English in dialogue will make you feel like you're living in the age of kings and knights. I cannot fully put my experience with reading the book without giving away much of the story. You have to read it for yourself to truly appreciate its nature. If you loved the movie, then this book is a must have. Be ready to embark on one of the greatest fantasy adventures of all time.

Summary: ...
Review: I was about 10 years old when my mom suggested for me to read The Hobbit, the prelude to J.R.R. Tolkiens Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. After reading The Hobbit, I became upsessed with Tolkien's books. The first "book" of the trilogy enthrawled me, although some may find it unexiting, (which it's NOT.) The second book and the rest that followed only increased the pace of greatness. I absolutely COULD NOT get enough of the heart-pounding action, mysterious suspence, and amazing characters. In the end, there is no possible way to decribe Tolkien's ingenius, masterpiece. And that's an EXTREME UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!!!!

Summary: Better watch the movie
Review: Pages and pages of description of the landscape. Northwards this, downwards that, a tree here a hole there. I was basically losing my mind. I usually think the book is a better deal than the movie, but there is no point to spend so much time imagining so many different scenarios and nothing going on. I just didnt like it.

Example:" The Company now turned aside from the path and went into the shadow of the deeper woods, westwardalong the mountain stream away from Silverlode. Not far from the falls of Nimrodel they found a cluster of trees, somo of which overhung the stream"

"The hills now began to shut them in. The Road behind held on its way to the River Bruinen, but both were now hidden from view. The travelers came into a long valley; narrow, deeply cloven dark and silent. Trees with old twisted roots hung over cliffs, and piled up behind into mounting slopes of pine-woods"

And the whole thing is like that.

GO WATCH THE MOVIE

Summary: The Pinnacle of Epic Fantasy
Review: What is left to say about JRR Tolkien's epic Lord of the Rings without resorting to the overused, yet appropriate, hyperboles that seem always to hover round its beautiful 1000+ pages? Without question, it is the greatest fantasy work ever constructed, inspiring a horde of impersonators who always fall short of Tolkien's masterful construction. Robert Jordan can construct the believable fantasy world, but lacks the literary prowess to construct a concise, accurate work with consistent themes. George Lucas, ever the Tolkien impersonator, creates beloved characters, but his world is often saturated with uncomfortable dialogue dripping with inappropriate attempts at humor. Many have grasped desperately at the perfect world created by Tolkien, but each one has, not surprisingly, fallen short. There never shall be another Lord of the Rings.

Specifically, this edition is a must have for any and all Tolkien fanatics. Alan Lee, simply the best artist of Middle-Earth, has created 50 gorgeous paintings that depict beautifully Tolkien's world. If you do not own this book, you ought not consider yourself a true Tolkien fan.

Summary: Never liked it
Review: I never liked this book. I tried to read it several times, and the last time I did it I found it overall boring and not interesting.
