Rating: Summary: Complete and Interesting Review: This is incredible. Not only is the book full of beautiful maps, but they are very accurate and tell the stories through mapping out the routes that bilbo, the dwarves, frodo, gandalf, and even gollum.........
Rating: Summary: Exceptional! Review: I love this book! It is the single most useful Tolkien resource. The maps are impeccable and the commentary timely and well-placed; there is no doubt just as much work went into the commentary as the maps themselves. I especially love the way Ms. Fonstad treats the apparent discrepancy between the Dwarves on ponies and Frodo, et al, on foot in Eriador.
Rating: Summary: A must for Middle Earth fans Review: I have this book, and it is the best tool to understand and follow the travels and battles in Tolkien's books.
Rating: Summary: Middle-Earth Atlas complete, astonishing Review: This atlas is a great companion to the LOTR, Hobbit, or earlier Middle-Eart history. Fonstad has made Tolkien's world seem a reality rather than fantasy!
Rating: Summary: The Best Altlas out there for all of Tolkens work Review: This book, better than any other I have seen, details LOTR, the Hobbit and the Silmarillian in great detail. If you have trouble visualizing the journeys and battles in Tolken's books, this one is for you.
Rating: Summary: An excellent help for those who can't easily imagine Review: our friends trip. Also allows us to discover many places of middle earth
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Never has there been a more complete tome of the geography of Middle Earth!
Rating: Summary: Good reference book to have on any part of LotR Review: I have read all of the books tolkien has written on middle earth, not only lord of the rings but the silmarillion and the tolkien reader. I was always confused on things like where beleriand was, what the world looked like in the first + second ages, and where the valar lived in relation with middle earth. This book answered nearly every one of my questions, along with providing great diagrams of the various battles fought. If you liked tolkien, get this book!
Rating: Summary: A must for Tolkien addicts! Review: I had the accidental fortune of finding this book a number of years ago (in hardback). A lot of thought obviously went into the book. Ms. Fonstad has brought to light a fresh way to see the Tolkien classics. From Bilbo's journey "There and Back Again", to the travels of the Fellowship members, to exciting battle maps, this will become an indispensable companion when you re-read the Hobbit and TLOTR.
Rating: Summary: Excellent companion book to the middle-earth trilogy Review: Although it's been a few years since I read this book, I've become a great fan of Ms. Fonstad's work. Anyone interested in either fantasy or maps of the worlds they inhabit should check out any title by this author. Ms Fonstad has done her homework, not only in the text of this story but in the layout of the land. This book (and others like it by this author) are highly recommended for those whose fantasy tastes are not fulfilled by the mere description of the land. Ms Fonstad goes into great detail and painstakingly recreates the paths of Frodo and the Fellowship, and also includes detailed maps of the Shire and Battle maps from the First and Second Ages and the battles of Sauron.
