Summary: A beautiful fantasy novel that will inspire your own dreams.
Review: A combination of simple easy-to-read prose, an engaging story, mature topics, potent symbolism, and intriguing characters makes _Dream A Little Dream_ a fun and moving book. I always read the book flap first, the authors' notes second, and the actual story last. In this case, reading the authors' notes gives a wonderful perspective (or is that pre-spective <grin>) on the work.

I have been reading Piers Anthony's novels for fifteen years. I can highly recommend this collaboration with Julie Brady. I am eager to read more from this obviously talented and creative new author, whether in collaboration with Piers or on her own. The story, concept, and method in which the book was written are exciting and ripe with promise for future stories.

Perhaps I'm so excited about this book because of my own interest and enjoyment of dreams, or perhaps because the characters in the book seem so real and memorable. Either way, for pure fantasy enjoyment, it gets five stars.

Summary: Some concepts were intriguing, but overall a disappointment.
Review: A lot of the problems I had were basic problems: 3rd person point of view shifts every few paragraphs - and sometimes within paragraphs, a bit of clunky wordage, quite a bit of telling instead of showing (needs fewer adverbs!), and the requirement that you suspend disbelief a bit too much.

The "suspension of disbelief" was a problem with having the friend who took this stranger's word for the fantastic things that happened to the main character, without so much as a blink. Sure, you are a prince and came from an alternate reality, and my friend brought you back here? There was no supporting structure that would allow this friend to believe a stranger saying the fantastic things he was saying. Maybe with a bit more of a lead in, some supporting character development to indicate a gullible psyche...maybe that would work.

I think the only reason it was published was the name Piers Anthony on the manuscript - and even then I am surprised it was! It had promise, but needed much more work than it got.

Summary: Please Be Gentle!!
Review: Hi everyone! I bet you don't know me, but you probably know Piers. I REALLY hope you like the book, but even if you don't I'd like to invite everyone to e-mail me with any comments or questions you may have regarding it. But remember, I'm new at this and this is my first book, so I hope you will all be gentle with me! Thanks for visiting amazon.com and thanks for checking out DREAM A LITTLE DREAM! -Best wishe

Summary: For those who dream....
Review: I am not completely positive how much work was done by each author---Mr. Anthony or Ms. Brady, but it seems to be written from a very feminine point of view. Though this is not to say that a male will not appreciate the work. Actually, anybody who has ever dreamed about being elsewhere or being a part of a fantasy will probably enjoy this tale. However, this is not a book for all fantasy readers. If you primarily read from authors like Robert Jordan or David Eddings--epic fantasy--then you may not enjoy this novel. On the other hand, fans of Piers Anthony and similar authors of his genre, will more then likely enjoy this story, or if you wish to read a fantasy novel that seems to take place closer to home instead of in a far away land and time.

Summary: Barely readable
Review: I found this clumsily written, and reading it was about as much fun as chewing tinfoil. A pity, as Anthony wrote some good things once.

The plot read like bad wish-fulfillment fantasies. The girl goes into serial dream aspect reminded me a little of Neal Gaiman's brilliant "Game of You" and Jonathan Carroll's wonderful "Bones of the Moon" only those are good books. And this, I'm afraid, isn't.

I've never had to apologize to an author before. Sorry.

Summary: I liked the idea.
Review: I'm a 42 year old female, and as much as I love fantasy..... maybe it's my stage of development at this time in my life...but I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd expected from the description of the story on the jacket, and my enjoyment of Piers Anthony's work in the past.

If this book was aimed at adolescents, personally I would like to have seen the two main characters react to each other on a strictly emotional level, rather than a physical one. It's hard enough for ADULTS to distinguish between lust and love.

I understand the need to escape into a dream wordl, but I never did understand abusive relationships because people who REALLY LOVE YOU don't treat you that way! I've met a lot of people who treat total strangers with more courtesy and respect than members of their own family, or people they supposedly love. I found the lead "heroine" annoying as rather than developing into a mature adult, she didn't take responsibility for HER actions in the abusive relationship. He was a BAD MAN, but she kept dragging the guy back after he'd leave her! Would like to have had this phenomenom explained more and the reader taught how to deal with that type of behavior in the real world we all have to live in. Escape doesn't SOLVE the problem. She did START to learn to stand on her own, rather than depend on her friends to rescue her.

Would love to see another book from the author, Julie Brady, in how her characters learn to develop mentally and emotionally into mature adults. I liked the idea for the book and hope to see more from this author.

Summary: You can do it!
Review: It was a cute book with a great idea of a land people created with their dreams. Who hasn't dreamed of a dragon to take you flying or pretended to have a mouse on your shoulder talking to you at school? But I think that it was playing up to people with it's happy ending and if you beleive in yourself you can succeed no matter what. I think that at the end the dream world should have been run over by frin and Earth's people should have become suicidel murderer's. It would have made for a good sequel-Eli@

Summary: An indepth look into abusive relationships and hope.
Review: Julie Brady is a new writer of great talent combined with the premier Fantasy writer Piers Anthony and you have a wonderful new world created by dreams. It's a Love story and a quest novel roled into one with a heroine instead of a hero. This book gives some insights into why women stay in abusive relationships and the hardships that sometimes ensue when they leave. You can feel the self hatred and feelings of worthlessness of the main characters. You can also feel the strong hope and dreams of each of them. This story covers it all from despair to aborted suicide to the bloom of new hope and selfworth. It gives a feeling of hope and a reason to believe in our dreams. Well worth reading. Keep a hanky close by it may cause tears.

Review: They say, "you cant judge a book by it's cover," well, that isnt alwaya the case. The cover in this book says it all. It is a great book and I highly suggest it to anyone who loves the thrill of fantasy and adventure.(Not to mention a little romance). If your like me, you dont just buy any book, it has to be perfect. Right? Well, this book is perfect.Another thing about this book is when you're reading it, it's like you're actually there, going through whatever the charactor is going through. It is a great book!! Summary: I wish there was a space for zero stars
Review: This badly-written, poorly-conceived excuse for a novel makes me ashamed to admit liking Piers Anthony's work. Ever. It reads as though written and edited by a classroom of first-graders. Except that first-graders are generally more imaginative. This derivative drivel is... self-gratification splashed onto a page, ready for unwary readers. The characters are flat, the plot is trite, and the writing itself is so incredibly clumsy it made me wince just reading the first page.
