Rating: Summary: I was deeply moved by this book! Review: I just finished reading Brightly Burning and I must say that this piece of Mercedes Lackey is full of emotions as all the other Valdemar Series. I could not put the book down just for that reason. The experience and background of the young hero was somewhat of a challenge for those of us who at one point in time felt that we have had the short end of the stick in life. Simply remarkable! I cried at the end. I never have in all the other books. One could wish that they would have the heart of young Lavan! His companion Kilira is quite amusing as well..and admirable towards the end. You just have to read this book!
Rating: Summary: The old Misty pokes her head out.... Review: Like most people, I read the Owl series with much disappointment. However, with Brightly Burning, the Misty we all know and love is back. This book was well writen, and I loved the characters. I had real feelings for Lavan, and empathised with Elenor. I also have to admit, that for the first time in ages, I cried at the ending. If you are looking to start Misty's series, this is a good place to start, and if you are a long time fan, this is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Is it fun for mercede's anymore? Or is it a job? Review: As a reader of Mercedes Lackey I have to ask is she bored? The Mage Wind series, The Storm series, and the latest books all are dry and lacking the same flow and enjoyment the Last Herald Mage and Queens Own series had. It isn't that I still don't enjoy her writing and I am still reading her books, but she has made up a very diverse world and all anybody wants to read about are heralds. How boring, it is like reading about cops in New York the same outline the same setting the same.... Why not write about the Shin'a'in, Hardornens, How the Eastern Empire got it's roots? Why not Iftel? And if she is completely bored with Valdemar Why not the 18th century stories she suggested in Werehunter? She needs to start enjoying her writing again instead of producing one story after another about Heralds to appease the mindless public.
Rating: Summary: Brightly Burning by Mercedes Lackey Review: I was overjoyed to find a new book about my 2nd favorite world (Pern being #1). I have enjoyed everyone of her books, including the owl trilogy, which I gather puts me in a minority. Birghtly Burning made me laugh, filled me with rage--that school was straight out of Dickens!--and above all made me cry. Even now several days after finishing the book, I can fill moisture in the corner of my eyes. Thank you for another fine work.
Rating: Summary: A Decent Tale Review: Compared to Last Herald Mage series or even Arrows of the Queen series, I thought it was a bit lacking. There were a few points that I thought didn't hold true to the history and character types that Misty had developed in the other books. Though on its own, it is a good story and a captivating read.
Rating: Summary: Definitly one of her best Review: I'm not one for writing reviews. In fact, outside of required writing, I don't. This has to be one of Misty's best. I've been reading her novels for years now, through the great and the average, this is one of her best. It made me laugh, it even had me in tears. The characters could have been expanded upon, but not to three novels...It was perfect in one. If you've been feeling a little put off by the recent novels, this one will recapture you attention to the capability of Misty as a storyteller.
Rating: Summary: Brightly Burning, a Pile of Ash Review: As a long time fan of Lackey's work I have been anxiously awaiting the release of her latest work. I rushed out and bought the hardback of this latest offering only to find it lacking. While the book shows some promise in the premise and some exciting inovations on the normal relationships this promise is never developed. The characters were all static and this read more as a third grade history then one of Lackey's beautiful stories. I sincerely hope that her next offering improves.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent tale of Valdemar Review: BRIGHTLY BURNING offers what I have come to expect from a novel by master storyteller Mercedes Lackey: a great story, compelling characters and emotional depth. Although the end of Lavan Firestorm is known to all afficionados of Valdemar, this book still held all my attention, and I could not read it fast enough. Be sure not to miss this great new entry in Lackey's popular saga. By the way, unlike most people I REALLY liked the "Owls" trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Back to the old Valdemar Review: This book was the first Valdemar book in a long time that grabbed me and captivated me to read it through in one day. Recent books have not held me in the same way her original trilogies did. I liked this book so much but was slightly disappointed that the legend was completed in this book. I want to read more of the same quality and didn't want it to end.
Rating: Summary: IT catches you and keeps your interest! Review: Brightly Burning was GREAT! After the disappointment I felt reading the "Owl" series, I was really pleased by Lackey's newest. It was more like her story of Vanyel. Of all of her Valdemer series, it is second only to "By the Sword."
