Rating: Summary: love it! Review: this book definatly rates up there with "last herald mage" and "arrows of the queen." i loved it! my friends and i mourned at the ending (which unlike some people, i won't give away). we were talking about it for days. i must admit it was a little slow at the beginning, but that it picked up the pace. misty created such memorable characters for this book. Pol, Tuck, Owyn, Kalira...everyone! if you love vanyel and talia then you will absolutly adore this!
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING! Review: This was one of those novels that you simply COULD NOT put down. It was well written, with a lot of extremely interesting characters, and a compelling story line. I have been a long time fan of Misty's, and I hope she continues writing books like this.
Rating: Summary: A powerful, involving novel from a master storyteller. Review: This fantasy novel of Valdemar presents a powerful story as it tells of a young man who suddenly awakens to his strange power of starting fires. Only three individuals will help him tame his powers - and these three also recognize he will come to play a powerful role in a civil war brewing. A powerful, involving story highly recommended: hard to put down from start to finish, requiring no prior introduction to the Valdemar world.
Rating: Summary: Brightly Burning from The Bookdragon Review Review: "Fans of the Valdemar series will find one major revelation in Brightly Burning, but on the whole, this title is to Lackey's fantasy world what Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern was to Anne McCaffrey's Pern. Lavan's tale is tragic, depressing and yet hauntingly beautiful as Lackey produces one of her strongest titles in recent years."
Rating: Summary: What can I say? I am hooked on Valdemar- More please Review: This is an excellent read. I started reading the Valdemar series a couple of years ago, and I have been hooked on it since. The plot line is basically Lavan Chitward, who is the only child in his family who does not want to follow in his parents footsteps, is being bullied at school. By acident his Gift, that of firestarting, is loosed on them. He is Chosen and soon he no longer has to worry about fighting against his parents to earn his own destiny. Though hard at times, he learns to master his Gift of firestarting despite various hardships along the way. When war is declared, he is naturally terrified as anyone else would be, but must march off as he might be the edge his people need. I won't spoil the ending for you (or too many details!). I felt that the characters really came to life: when they laughed, I laughed; when they cried, I cried. This book allowed you to have a lot of empathy with the character. I love this book and can't wait for the next addition to the Valdemar series to come out- I will be waiting in anticipation. This is a great book, so do yourself a favor: go and buy a copy! Feel free to email me with any questions or comments (or if you are as wild about Valdemar as I am!). Enjoy! :)
Rating: Summary: A disappointment Review: I was so caught up in the story and the writing, the immersion of the reader in the conflicts of Lavan, Elenor, Pol, Ilea, Kilara and Satiran. I was beginning to wonder how as a writer Ms Lackey would resolve the situation between Lavan, Elenor and Kilara, and hoped she wouldn't cop out. In my mind she did! Not to be a spoiler, but I wanted more about the characters as they revolved and evolved around Lavan, not the cop out ending. It ruined a beautifully written book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: I thought this book was in every way superior to Mistie's "Owlknight" series. She set the scene, drew me in and hooked me. The plot kept moving, which was different from the "Owlknight" series which seemed to move sluggishly to me. Not so with Brightly Burning! If you want a book with a point to it, beliveable characters, and good, solid action, then you should read this. I liked it so much I read it, and then read it again right away. Don't deprive yourself of a wonderful read!
Rating: Summary: I liked the owl series Review: I liked the owl series very much. I like how Ms. Lackey introduces new characters and blends them in with the new characters.I don't understand why yall didn't like the owl series. To each his own.
Rating: Summary: Good Novel Review: I liked this book alot - though I like all her books even the owl series. I didn't like this one as much as there was a slight lack of character devlopment. Very good though.Slight falw in this is that Misty tends to partalty contradict herself - especally when comapring comments in this book to earlier ones!
Rating: Summary: Dedicated Reader Review: All I can say is that this novel was excellent. This is one of my favorite series of books and I am very pleaseed to see the quality of Ms. Lackey's writing maintained.
