Rating: Summary: Very good sci-fi book! Review: Very good! I'm 13 years old, and I have read many other books, but this is the BEST of them all. A GREAT science fiction
Rating: Summary: A great teaching tool Review: I became aquainted with The White Mountains during my student teaching experience at Seymour Middle School in Indiana. Almost all of my sixth grade students loved this book. However, since there were a few who didn't absolutely love it, we only rated it a 9. The students could easliy identify with Will because he is a believable character who does not always have angelic thoughts or do things for the "right" reasons. Furthermore, the book kept the students attention because it is action-packed. However, the female students agreed with another reviewer who stated "the only female characters were dips." A more developed female character would most likely enhance the book. On the other hand, she would also change the storyline. And finally, The White Mountains is a great book to use in the classroom. It is an excellent book to use to introduce science fiction, to teach sybolism, and to enhance analytical thinking. Also, The White Mountains inspired my students to write and illustrate their own class science fiction book entitled The Journey of the Plippies.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT READ Review: This book is a very well written fast moving book that really grabs your intresrt. This book is a fantastic book even for people who hate sci-fie books.
Rating: Summary: One of the most memorable reading experience. Review: I read this book in elementry school and it totally blew me away. The characters were so real to me, and all the surroundings they passed through were so vivid, and the story so enthralling that it changed the way I percieved books. And even in my early twenties it still makes my heart race. I have yet to find another book that is as captivating as this trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding; read and re-read Review: I was introduced to this book in grade school many years ago and loved it. The adventure captivates young people. The themes of this book will enlighten a young person into the magic of books and introduce the literary meaning beyond recreational reading. I agree with the review below that it is one of my all time favorites. I would also recommend it to adults. Every couple of years, I read this book again and look forward to reading it to my kids.
Rating: Summary: Exciting Adventure Review: This book is a very exciting. If you like to read adventure books, this is your kind of book.
Rating: Summary: Awful! Review: I hated this book. I didn't finish it because it was so bad. I don't recomend it at all. If you like good books, don't read this!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Science Fiction Story For All Ages Review: I read THE WHITE MOUNTAINS in school, and enjoyed it so much. I had to read THE CITY OF GOLD AND LEAD and THE POOL OF FIRE on my own. This was the only book I read in school that I was happy it was part of a series.
Rating: Summary: The White Mountains is a action packed work of art!! Review: The White Mountains, a book with suspense, action, and a great plot, is the book you must read. With many problems the characters face, and having to deal with the skyscraping towers of steel, the tripods, this book is one with alot of suspense, you basically think you are one of the characters. John Christopher avidly describes everything. The descriptions are like paintings in the form of words. When all is well and everything is okay, the real adventure just begins. Yes this is the beginning of the beginning, the next two books The City of Gold and Lead and The Pool of Fire continue the adventure, with more suspense, mystery and enigmas. This Trilogy is one you can read over and over! Kian Kamyab (cleavis@geocities.com) Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
Rating: Summary: Good read, but frustrating if you're not a boy Review: I read the Tripod Trilogy in grade school, and loved it, EXCEPTfor the fact that the only female characters were dips. I thought oneof the three boys should have been a girl. If the characters in this series were easier for girls to identify with, I'd have given it a 10.
