Summary: a fun-filled adventure to the future
Review: This book trully showed how much people don't wonder about their lives until someone like Ozymandias comes along and enlightens them. Worth reading, although it's confusing in some moments. This is the only book I have ever read written by John Christopher, but it seems like he is a creative writer.

Summary: Excellent adventure for all ages
Review: This book, and it's companions in the "Tripod Trilogy" are excellent adventure stories. I've reread them time and time again. This is "hard core" science fiction at its best.

Summary: SUPERB!
Review: I'm 36, active duty military, and enjoyed reading this series recently just as much as I did the first time (I was in the third grade). Not many kid's books stand such a test of time.

Summary: A good, quick read
Review: I thought that this was a good book. It was a fast read, but once in a while those are good. The way the life has been changed is almost startling. It's not likely that we are going to get attacked by three-legged aliens, but you never know. And this book looks at how life could be. Also, it has lots of action as the main charactor struggles to keep just one step ahead of the aliens. This is terrific science fiction, with a sprinkle of historical and realistic. I recommend it to any adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, or just fast read readers. :)

Summary: An all time classic!
Review: John Christopher has redefined the science-fiction genre with this amazing tale of beings from another world and three boys daring escape from the invaders. His invaders, the tripods resemble the classic martians from H.G.Wells 'War of the worlds but it doesn't matter he has written such descriptive and powerful novel it makes 'War of the World's' seem pitiful.

Summary: My Favorite Books of All Time - The Tripods Trilogy
Review: It would be foolhardy to simply restate the opinions of our other posters. Simply put, I first read the trilogy at a very young age, and am still captivated twenty years later. An outstanding and unforgettable series.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST NOVELS THAT I HAVE EVER READ!
Review: THIS BOOK HAD ME GLUED TO THE PAGES, I DIDN'T WANT TO PUT IT OWN, I HAD TO SAVOR EVERY MOMENT OF IT. AS I READ IT I FOUND MYSELF BEING DRAWN INTO THIS FUTURISTIC WORLD. I FELT LIKE I WAS ANOTHER CHARACTER FOLLOWING WILL, HENRY AND BEANPOLE ON THEIR TRIP TO SAFETY. I WAS THERE WALKING ACROSS SOUTHERN ENGLAND, I CROSSED THE CHANNEL, ESCAPED FROM THE VILLAGE JAIL. I RODE ON THE SHAMAND-FAIR, I WANDERED IN AWE THROUGH PARIS, I STAYED AT THE CHATEU-DE LA TOURROUGE. I WAS TRACKED BY THE TRIPODS AND HELPED DESTROY ONE IN A BATTLE. I MADE IT SAFETLY TO THE WHITE MOUNTAINS WITH MY FICTIONAL FRIENDS. VERY FEW BOOKS HAVE EVER DRAWN ME IN LIKE THIS. THIS IS A MUST READ!

Summary: Great book for "kids" of any age.
Review: The "White Mountains" trilogy, as I knew it when I was about 10. I got the first copy from a library van traveling around the city: That was about 1962. It's action, characters and beleivable story captures you from the start and keeps you there to the end of the book. You've then just have to read the other two to find out what happens. It's a great book for most any age, 8 and up, particularlly boys; but I believe girls can enjoy it also.

Summary: Science Fiction at its best.
Review: I read this book when I was 10 and am now reading it to my 8 year old son. It is one of the few books where the storyline stays in your head and continues to excite and interest. This book is a terrific read for young investigators who like to figure out where and what without being told all the information. I love the section where they are wandering through the deserted remains of Paris and exploring the Metro - all done as though you were completely unfamiliar with a modern city or its workings. Very highly recommended.

Summary: The best book that I've read in a long time!!
Review: This is a great book! The author's description of a machine dominated Earth is so realistic that by the time I finished the book, I felt as if I had lived through the adventures myself. I would definetly recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction, even if you don't I'm sure that you'd get a real kick out of this book. I look foreward to reading the three other books in the series.
