Rating: Summary: Cute Review: A very silly book. It is enjoyable, very light reading. The puns are thick, heavy, and non-stop.
Rating: Summary: Cute, but compared to the other Xanth novels, it's pathetic Review: Alright, most people will agree that the first 3 Xanth novels were awesome. And some of the later ones were entertaining as well. But this book does not do the series justice. About a young girl, who happens to be the princess, who is lost in the jungles of Xanth. Meanwhile, the Gap Dragon has become a child and escaped from the Gap and caused "forget whorls" to appear all over Xanth. Okay, sounds really good right? Nice plot, huh? No, it's not. This book is overly coincidental, has pretty uninspired characters, and is pretty unrealistic, even for the setting. It totally does not show the normal actions of a child well after about the first 50 pages. And each conflict seems to appear with no relation to the last. Basically, it was a good idea turned bad, by some lazy planning by our friend Piers. The puns are still in full effect, fun, but getting a tad corny. If you're reading the series in order, you may as well read this - it's fun for a while but in the end a turn off - but don't let that distract you from this wonderful series.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST FANTASY BOOK EVER!!!! Review: As it says above, this is the best fantasy book EVER! It displays a problem from the start, and although some of what happens next COULD be predicted, Ivy and her group encounter surprise after surprise that adds to the books tenseness and excellence. The dialog is, and always has been, funny, the characters are well brought out, and the finale brings together joy, sadness, anxiety, in other words, this has the best ending a book could have. It really brings out your feelings for the characters. If you have ever heard of Piers Anthony and don't read this book, you're insane!!!
Rating: Summary: Simply Magical, Marvelous, and Fun!!! Review: Dragon on a Pedestal was the 1st Xanth novel I have read. I can say but one word: WOW! It was a great story. It combined an interseting story about how little princess Ivy got lost in the jungles of Xanth after being saved from the Gap Dragon by a zombie, and added many interesting twists at the same time. Ivy's fearlessness and bravery got her through every challenge she faced. Piers Anthony even added some interesting words from, possibly, a "Xanth Dictionary" to make it fun. I really got into the story. Anthony described everything very well, it was as if you were there. I think it was an extremely awesome book, and anyone interested in fantasy stories should read it.

Rating: Summary: A whimsical, fantastical masterpiece Review: I have enjoyed several books in the Xanth series, but this book surpasses them all. The innocence and pure love and trust of princess Ivy rise above the trials of her magical world, including malevolent creatures and frightening punnish circumstances. I repeatedly found myself agonizing over Ivy's fate, only to cheer when she, Stanley, and Hugo, by their friendship and bravery, surmounted the obstacles set before them. No other book I have read has had the power to bring me to tears with its emotional beauty one moment, and make me roll on the floor in laughter the next. The magical and punishingly hilarious characters and plants fit together in a satisfactory mesh that delights and astoninishes. _Dragon on a Pedestal_ is a lovely book that can be enjoyed by any Mundane adult or child who has a fine appreciation for true character and the intricacies of the English language. Anthony has created a very special adventure, for which I thank him.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Effort from a Worthwhile Author Review: I have truly enjoyed all of Anthony's Xanth books up until this one. The books of this series are made memorable and entertaining to me largely due to the incredible imagination of the author. That is, unfortunately, the main missing aspect of this novel. Our young heroine's talent seems to function as a vehicle for making unbelievable polt twists occur rather than as a specific talent that marked the heros and heroines of the other Xanth novels. **SPOILER** Another weak chain of events was the benefit reaped by the Tree of Life. That idea was about as poorly put forth as Ivy's talent of convenience---I was half expecting Irene to find a seed that grew cannons or Volvos. While most other Xanth novels had the ability to make the reader believe that the fantastical events were possible in Xanth due to the incredible magic of the land and characters, this one just made this reader believe the author ran out of good ideas.

Rating: Summary: Thank God for Piers Anthony!!!!!! Review: I started reading books by Piers Anthony at the age of 13 after I read "Dragon on A Pedestal". That was three years ago and I'm still facinated by the fun and mythical world of Xanth. Heck, if I where up to me I'd live there. A facinating book that should be read again and again. Long live Piers Anthony!!!!
