Rating: Summary: Inu Yasha, manga goodness. Review: ...To start out, I have read Inu Yasha mangas, volumes 1-3. It is my favorite manga at the moment. It is the story of a girl named Kagome, a 15 year old high school girl. Her family lives in a house with an ancient minishrine in the yard. Her grandpa even has a gift store that sells all kinds of little trinkets that he claims to have some ancient story behind it... I don't believe him. But one day, she goes inside the shrine to find her cat. omething pops up from it and drags her in, thus beginning he adventures. She will end up in ancient Japan, where the states are still fighting for land, and there are even demons! All of these demons seek the Shikon Jewel, or Jewel of Four Souls, which will make them more powerful. Inu Yasha, a half demon dog, is one of these who seeks the Shikon Jewel. This is a reat little manga book, a must for just about everyone. But parents out there take not, there are some things you might not let a more influentuable kid see. There is blood, gore, violence, and nudity. It's all pretty mild, the Inu Yasha anime is rated 13 and up. The reading level up there says 9-12, but I doubt alot of 9-12 year olds would get the story, there are some complicated words in here. So I'd read it first and decide if it's right for your child. And there you have it, my first review, and of a great manga. Buy this one now, and if youlike it, check out the Inu Yasha anime. Rumiko Takahashi has come up with something great here.
Rating: Summary: Comedy Goddess Takahashi-san does it again! Review: From the author of Ramna 1/2 and Maison Ikkuko comes this feudal fantasy tale. Rumiko Takahashi's best work yet has been accepted by many kids of all ages. Thought it does have some murder and war in it, please note that this was all based on history. After all, isn't history just a "repetition of wars", as one of the characters states. Meet Kagome-chan. She's a normal 16-year-old girl. Yeah right. She's actually the reincarnation of a magical priestess that carries a special bond to the dog hanyou Inuyasha. After falling into a well, she coes out of the other side...in feudal Japan (around the 14th century AD). There, she and Inuyasha must collect the shards of the SHIKON NO TAMA (Jewel of Four Souls). Journey with them on a magical, engrossing adventure...a once-in-a-lifetime thing you won't want to miss.
Rating: Summary: Takahashi does it again! Review: This just might be the best I've read by the formidible and prolific (and gifted!) Ms. Takahashi. Human, funny, kinda scary and packed with Japanese mythology, she's at top form in this new series. Kagome lives in moden Japan, with a grandfather obsessed with tales legends and magic, which Kagome completely ignores -- until her 15th birthday, when the legends, magic and myths of Japan come to life to pull her out of her own time and into Japan's feudal past. There, she discovers that she is the reincarnation of a priestess, Kikyo, who was the town's only barrier of defense from the demons swarming the land -- and the bearer of the Jewel of Four Souls, an item of great magical power that all the demons of Japan wish to get. Especially Inu-Yasha, the half-demon, whom Kikyo put under a trap spell, and who's got a major axe to grid with that priestess, even if her spirit is now in Kagome's unaware and innocent form. Yeah, no matter how I summarize this, it's going to sound confusing. Takahashi plotlines are always complicated, and always a joy to read. I, myself, am going to have a *very* difficult time waiting for the next volume to come out! If you're a Takahashi fan, this is a must-have. If you've never read her stuff before, this might be the best way to start (though you can never go wrong with Ranma 1/2!). Those five stars above this text are spinning and sparkling ones, and this volume more than deserves them!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME INU YASHA :) Review: This book is AWESOME. It really, truly is worth every penny you spend on it. The artwork is simply amazing, and right away you get hooked on the characters and the plot. Inu Yasha starts out very mean and nasty and selfish, but as the story goes on, you start to think that he just might have a bit of a soft side to him. Kagome is the only manga/anime female character I've ever known to have common sense, though she's a bit ditzy. The way the villagers talk in the book annoys me at times, but other than that, I think the English translations (from Japanese) are quite accurate. Truly, a wonderful read. I urge you to buy all the Inu Yasha manga you can...and check out the anime, too! Takahashi Rumiko's works are all AWESOME (including Mermaid Saga and Ranma 1/2).
Rating: Summary: Possibly my favorite manga! Review: While I have never been disappointed by a Rumiko Takahashi manga, this is certainly my favorite. Takahashi's fairy-tale style storytelling shines in this series. A modern-day Japanese schoolgirl accidentally travels to feudal Japan by way of a cursed well. Eventually, she ends up releasing a half-demon named Inu-Yasha, from a 50-year enchantment (whoops). While it is a typical pairing of unlikely partners, this series as a whole is far from typical. The tone of the comic flows seamlessly from humorous (I have laughed aloud in some spots), to action, to romantic, and sometimes to downright creepy. No one pulls off such mood switches like Takahashi. The characters are well developed to the point of being nearly believable (in an imaginary, fantasy sort of way). The artwork, chracters, and story are some of the most imaginative I've seen. If you enjoy a good fantasy manga, I highly recommend Inu-Yasha. It is a super-fun read. I also highly recommend seeing the anime series if you get the opportunity.
Rating: Summary: Beware of this book for kids Review: Violent, gruesome, nudity. Should be removed from the shelves. My 7 year old son told me he read one of these books that a friend in his second grade class brought in. I purchased a few books in the series and we reviewed one for content. I was horrified to see that it talked about murder, a person saves a bucket of human livers and has to move to another town because he has run out of victims. There were pictures of nude girls on a few of the pages. Although it says it is for Teen on the back cover- Young kids are reading these books. My nephews, who are teens, think these books are for young kids. Most teens are not interested in reading them. Which shows that these books although labeled for teens have a young child audience. I am bringing the books I purchased last night, back to the store this morning.
Rating: Summary: Inuyasha is pretty darn good. Review: I ordered the first two of the series. I was pleased with the fact that they were a pretty good length, but I'm still reeling over the cost! American dollars are bad. Very bad. Am so broke *droops*. I love the story very much however, and Inuyasha makes a most adorable villian/good-guy. (confusing isn't it?) I have shared it with a few of my friends. (Trusted ones mind you. Sooooo expensive to replace!) They had a lot of reactions ranging from: *yoink* "I'll see you after Japanese" *runs off clutching book muttering 'My preciousssss'* To: "Oh, they aren't very good quality drawings, are they?" *gets head bashed in by me* And even!: *Opens first page* "That girl looks really mad. Who is she?" "Oh! He's a guy??? Are you sure???" Yes. That really happened. That particular person also mistook Sesshoumaru for a female but I can forgive her for that. I'd love to buy the rest of the series, but I'm pretty darn sure that I can live without it until the prices go down. One day.
Rating: Summary: Enter The World Of Feudal Japan... Review: Rumiko Takahashi is the writer of InuYasha, which is known by fans has being a Feudal Fairy Tale. InuYasha is a story about a average schoolgirl who is taken back in time through a well on her family's property. She soon discovers many facts abut herself and her destiny that makes one realize that she in no average schoolgirl. She, with the help of Inuyasha, a half human, half demon hybrid, must gather the shards of a Sacred Jewel that gan give demons enormous amounts of power. Now, one might think that this is just a simple story, that can't be very interesting, but one would be very wrong. InuYasha is a 'historical action and romance from one of Japan's most beloved creators' with a touch of gothic horror. What more could one want? With a cast full of interesting characters, and even more interesting villains, anyone reading InuYasha will instantly fall in love with at least one of the characters, and instantly hate a few has well. I myself have read all the books in this series to date (Jan. 7, 2004) that are available. But, if you want to find anymore out about Kagome and Inuyasha's adventures, well... you'll just have to read the book yourself. Allison R.
Rating: Summary: A literary analysis of Inu-Yasha (kind of) Review: Hey adventure seekers! Inuyasha is my favorite manga. I say put your money here. This story succeeded to impress me, and that's saying quite a bit because I consider myself to be a *cough* finicky reader and don't spend my time and money on just anything. I can tell this series was done with heart. Its charming and honest and doesn't try to be too tough and rigid or cutesy and mushy just for the sake of being cutesy and mushy. Take it from me, I've been around fantasy long enough to tell the difference between honest, individual stories and pulp fantasy hashed together from tired archetypes. The main concept of the story (a powerful magical jewel) isn't wildly original but the charming, memorable characters and intriguing themes are what make the stories stand out. Disclaimer: There are a few topless shots but c'mon! it's art!
