Summary: A GREAT book!
Review: This was a GREAT book, even though the first time I read it I kind of got boared. But later on, I couldn't stop! I got so caught up in it I read all the way through dinner! Anne McCaffrey is one of the BEST authors and I advise you to read it, that is, if your a dragon-loving fan like I am.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is a great book, more then just a book about dragons.
Review: This book was great! It show Menolly's fights with her father. The story of her fire lizards and how Menolly became Pern's first female harper.

Summary: A great book about saving student potential from being lost
Review: This is the best of Ms. McCaffrey's books. The biggest waste is the waste of human minds. Good metoring is essential to develop students' potential to the fullest. Most students, lacking such mentoring, eventually become discouraged and never discover their own abilities. This book is about the joy of the relationship between a talented student (Menolly) and a caring teacher (Robinton). Forget Pern, forget dragons and fire lizards - this is a rare tribute to the profession of teaching and to the fostering of young talent. A truly joyous and inspiring book.

Summary: Wonderful, but could be better.
Review: This is a wonderful book, explaining a lot of things about the Harper Hall, and Menolly, but I see it more as a bridge of sorts between Dragonsong and Dragondrums. I think there are certain things about it which are spectacular, and things which AM could have made better. This is certaintly a book which I would re-read over and over, and I'd ignore the few flaws.

Summary: Pretty good...
Review: This is probably my favorite non-dragonrider novel of the series (my favorite period next to DFlight and Moreta) Never mind that the "poor misunderstood Menolly" schtick is getting old. Never mind that the idea of ANY apprentice rising to journeyman rank in a week (especially a female harper) is completely unfeasable. Never even mind those damnable firelizards that crop up en masse in every RPG or CON. Viva the occaisional piece of sugar-loaded, escapist, YA girly fantasy! and Viva the Dragonlady along with it!

Summary: a VERY cool book
Review: This was the first book of the Harper Hall trilogy and the Pern series that I have read. Since then I've also read Dragonsong, Dragondrums, the White Dragon, Dragonquest, All the Weyrs of Pern, and Dragonsdawn. I think this book is the best of them all. I really admire the character Menolly. She is strong, brave, talented, creative, and sweet. I loved reading about her days in the Harper Hall, and about her firelizards, the Masterharper, and Piemur. I've read and reread this book a million times, but i still find it enchanting each time. It got me hooked to this series. I wish firelizards and dragons and Pern really did exist. But it doesn't, so this series is a great substitute to escape to.

Summary: A nice 2nd draft that should not have been published.
Review: This book is a great example of a publisher telling a popular author, "Get us the next book soon; we don't care what shape it's in." Anne McCaffrey is a good writer but there were mistakes in this book that ruined my enjoyment. For one thing, there are TOO MANY fire lizards. These animals are characters, though not human, and their presence is an intrusion more often than not. If characters are so flat that they need names like Auntie 1 and Auntie 2, and then pretty much do not get mentioned for the rest of the book, than they are characters that should not have been included in the first place. Get rid of them! Another related flaw is that fire lizards are very demanding of attention from their owners, except when the author is busy trying to tell us something else, in which case the fire lizards conveniently don't exist for a while and then inexplicably are back. The biggest problem with this novel, however, is that it is very thin on plot. It is a vague coming-of-age story where all conflicts are resolved too easily and too soon. What saves the book is its setting, and the social structure of the Harper Hall. I love Anne McCaffrey but several of her books suffer from not enough influence from a good editor.

Summary: great book, best I've read in awhile
Review: This book was itroduced to me by my dad last summer. This was the book that was so good I read 8 books in 2 months. I had never liked reading before i read this book. This book feels warm and homey, yet is satisfying in many other ways. If you enjoy this book you would love her other Dragonflight series books.

Summary: This is a must read.
Review: I was introduced into Anne McCaffrey by my older sister (thanks a bunch Dana!) She told me about DRAGONSONG and suggested that I read it. I read it and instantly I was a Anne McCaffrey fan. I went on to read DRAGONSINGER and DRAGONDRUMS. But out of all three, DRAGONSINGER was the best. I've read the book over and over. A corner of the cover is torn off and the pages, well, you can tell this book has been read a lot. My only complaints:What about some of her old friends like Audiva, what happens to her? And the last complaint: Anne McCaffrey needs to write more about Menolly in later years. To all those people who think Anne McCaffrey's a bad writer-oh, never mind! I don't wanna even think about those people.

Summary: Wonderful. Anne McAfferey takes your mind to wondrous places
Review: Anne McAfferey's work is unlike any other stories I've read. She's got me hooked on them. She details everything so vividly that you can easily picture it in your mind. No other stories I had read kept me begging for more. Her stories are the most wonderful things I've ever read.
