Summary: This book is great.
Review: What is wrong with those people out there? You say that this book is imaginative and good, and then you proceed to say that high-schoolers should read it. Then, you give it one or two stars. While this book is not a must read, it is interesting and quite good. I don't think that it is boring.

By the way, why do several review say the exact same thing but say that the location is different?

Summary: A wonderful begining to the drangonsinger triliogy!!!!
Review: Another great book from Anne Mccaffery.I loved her imagination in this book (and others) and learning about the creatures of Pern. I think that the discription of Menolly's hold was very much like a day in the life of people on earth. So if you enjoy a book that is very descriptive and heart warming I deffinitely recommend this book.

Summary: Great by itself, even better as part of the whole
Review: Ann McGaffery's Pern and her Dragons are among my favorite books, not only because of the depth and breath of the land that she has created, but because of the personal interaction and dialog that build the complex social structure that define it. While she tends to repeat her story lines, mostly it's from the point of view of other characters, and their reactions to what's going on. Ann has definitely pushed the limit in this area, but at the same time it's like coming home to a warm comfortable chair where one can just snuggle in and enjoy the well-crafted workmanship. I particularly like catching hints to her plot twists and future character developments in the stories written years before the ones that really explore them. I sometimes wonder how she did it.

It's interesting to read the comments posted here. Most of the negative ones don't seem to understand that Dragonsong is part of 9 or so books in Ann's Pern universe, and I think the 3rd one that she wrote. The other interesting (and probably universal) theme is that these opinions seem to be mostly written by students who had to do a book report, while the positive one are from those who picked this book up on their own and have read other books in the series. Lets just say that I don't think that the teachers are presenting this book in the best possible light. My suggestion is that you find a chair you love, turn on a good light and read the entire series in the order that Ann wrote them. You may end up moving them to your list of favorites also.

Summary: A FANTASTIC FANTASY STORY!
Review: I feel that this story about Menolly and her fire lizards is fantastic! I especially liked the ending when she finally acheived her dream of being a Harper and became the first female Harper of Pern. If you love fantasy then you will like this book. If you have read this book then you must read DRAGONSINGER and DRAGONDRUMS which continue the story of Menolly and her fire lizards.

Summary: A rich and incredible sci-fi story!
Review: I had never enjoyed Science Fiction, until now! Anne's world of Pern is told very well in this rich and exciting story. I think the reader can relate to Menolly's craving for something more than her ordinary, boring life. I would recommend this book to anyone who is just starting to find Anne, or even the world of Science Fiction. I like to read the book, not analize it, like some other critcs of the book do. Let your self become part of Pern, and I am certian you will enjoy this amazing book.

Summary: The story Dragonsong was detialed and unresolved.,
Review: Homework is a bad institution which defeats the purpose of school work. For example, reading chapters in the book Dragonsong for homework was dumb because we should have been doing this assignment in class. We could have spent this homework time reading or doing other useful work. Besides, the book Dragonsong was detialed and unresolved. The story Dragonsong was unique in its attention to detail. On several occasions the author explains the story with great depth. For instance the sentences, " His voice made her briefly homesick for seawinds and the taste for salty air; briefly too she longed for the solitude of her cave." The author seems to give some insight on how Menolly thinks and feels with colorful descriptive words. Using this kind of dialogue works very well with this kind or story. The reader is able to understand characteristics of the people and things in Dragonsong. The story was unresolved because it never says how Menolly's story turned out. The author seems to leave it the reader to figure out the end. The way the story is played out your kind or given the impression that Menolly's desires to do her music will come true. The end of the book makes you wonder of this conclusion though because it mentions several times how badly Menolly's hand is hurt. I think the fact that Dragonsong was detailed and unresolved made it a better book. It appealed to me because of its turnout. I would recommend this book to teenagers facing conflicy with their parents and mature readers who enjoy thrilling and a bit cofusing novels.

Summary: Don't read Dragonsong!!!!
Review: I personally did not like Dragonsong. I found the book to be farfetched and it took too much time to get to the point. I would not recommend this book to anyone unless they liked to read un realistic and uninteresting books. The only recommendation for this book is not to read it. I thought the book was drawn-out and boring. Dragonsong is an adventurous tale of a young girl living out her dream. Menolly was being adventurous by leaving her home at Half Circle Sea Hold. Another good example is when Menolly was able to care for herself adn nine other firelizards. She was kept alive by killing a wherry and was able to keep her firlizards amused by teaching them to hum along with her singing. She finally found a place to accept her for who she was and was able to live out her dream. Dragonsong is extremely imaginative. In one instance these sporelife otherwise known as "Thread" are able to fall thruogh space to this land called Pern and eat everything up. Another instance would be these fluing lizard like creatures called dragons whicha are able to be tamed, ridden, and trained to kill the Thread. For another example of being imaginative the riders of these dragons also known as "dragonriders" are able to time travel to different points in time. The only recomendation I have for this book is not to read it! It was lame!!

Summary: Dragonsong was Enjoyable!
Review: Reading is one of my most favorite hobbies. I think we can learn a lot from reading books. Because a good book may give us useful knowledge, or touch our hearts, or sometimes, change the way we think. For me, an exciting book makes me feel relaxed and catches all my attention. So as we read our assignment, I found Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey enjoyable and curious. Dragonsong was an enjoyable story to me. First of all, it was a story of a teenage girl about my age, so it made me be willing to share her feelings. Another example, it was enjoyable when Menolly tried to live her life alone in the cave with her special friends, the fire lizards. Besides, after all the pain she had suffered, Menolly had a better life at Benden Weyr. There she could do all her favorite work without any limitation or prevention. She could do her most desirous hobbies, playing and singing, with the fire lizards humming along excitedly. Finally, Dragonsong seemed to have a happy ending when Menolly's dream of being a Harper was fulfilled. Dragonsong was a very curious story. It was curious because the readers may want to know what life was actually like on an imaginary planet. For instance, how the people lived, what they ate, what they did for a living, etc. Furthermore, the story was portrayed with the presence of mythical creatures like dragons, and fire lizards. So the readers may be much attracted by the way those people trained dragons to protect their planet. As we read the story, we really wanted to know what would happen to the characters, to their creatures, and how this interesting story would end. Those reasons made the story curious. Even though at first, I felt a little confused about it, Dragonsong is a good book to read. Especially with those who have imaginative minds, the book may take them to where their imaginations lead them. This is the book that makes you feel excited and restful if you need some time to be away from your busy work. So I recommend that everyone try to read this book, because once they read it, they will like it.

Summary: It was unique , interesting, but also boring.
Review: Reading Dragonsong was kind of boring, but also interesting at the same time. The chapters were too long and the homework we had was too much for the story, but I enjoyed the story. Even though homework is good for us, there is a point in which it gets to be too much. Lucily for us this book, Dragonsong, written by Anne McCaffrey was both unique and interesting. Dragonsong was a unique story with its characters and the things that happened to them. The story line was quite interesting, because Menolly lived in a cave with the dragon lizards for a while, and she spent all her time with them. It was surprising when she fell off the cliff near the middle of the story, and sad when her father beat her. When the story first began, it was quite difficult to read since we didn't know what the Threads were, but after time, it all became clear. The fact that it was a mystical story make it more interesting toread since there are not really very mouch of those types of books for selection of reading. although Dragonsong was a little unresolved, it was an extremely unique and exceptional book to read. Dragonsong was quite enjoyable because there was always a lot going on. There were few parts where it wasn't interesting, although it did have its moments. One of the parts that would keep a person's attention, would be when Menolly cuts her hand, and it gets infected from the slime of the fish. Another incident that is really interesting is when Old Uncle makes a fuss at the dinner table when the Elgion arrives. Dragonsong was quite enjoyable to read, and it would be a good book to cure anyone's boredom. In reaction to this book, Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey, I could say that I did enjoy it. The content and excitement really catches your attention well, and I would recommend this to anyone with a desire of difference in their style or reading.
