Summary: Five Stars is the understatement of the year...
Review: This was the very first book I've ever read of Ms. McCaffery. My dad recomended it to me, and I put him down.

A few months later I found it hidden in the corner of our local library. I am obsessed with anything fantasy/sci-fi and books. So obviously, I picked it up and started to read it. I took it home and finished it with in 1 - 2 days of getting it. I was mesmerized, and I couldn't put it down.

I was amazed that even though this isn't the first book in the series, and I had absolutly no clue what it was about, I understood almost everything about the dragons and Impression and everything like that. It's very easy to understand, comprehend, and you'll soon find yourself loving the book and it's characters.

Overall, I loved it, it's fun and easy reading, but I wouldn't recommend it to little children, and most pre-teens. I'm 12 myself and read it 2 years ago, but I was only alowd to read it because my dad screened it. I would recommend that if your child wants to read it.

Even though this book has good info in it, I would recommend reading the the first books of the series first.

Summary: Dragonsong, a tale of a great harper
Review: In dragonsong Mellony is a seaholder with a mind for music. But when her hand was injured and her hopes lost she finds the legandary fire lizards that make the story exciting and dreamlike. Kids of all ages from 8 & up should read this for a wild adventure

Summary: The first book of the wonderful Harper Hall trilogy.
Review: This is another of McCaffrey's stories set on the Planet of Pern, featuring one of my favorite Pern characters, Menolly. She is the insecure daughter the holder of a fishing hold who yearns to be a harper. Her hard-working, close-minded parents believe she is wasting her time. After all, who ever heard of a girl harper? She is even beaten for making music! Unable to live in misery any longer, she runs away and begins an adventure that will take her from a coastal fire lizard cave, to Benden Weyr, and finally to the place she has always longed for--Harper Hall! I loved seeing her evolve from a sad, cripplingly shy girl with low self esteem to a self-reliant, brave young woman. And you have to love all those fire lizards!

Summary: Enchantress
Review: I love this book! It is one of my favorites. I started reading it just to find something to read. Then I feel in love with it and the series. It is the story of a girl named Menolly who lives in a sea hold on the planet Pern. She studies with an old harper, Petrion, and learns music. She writes some songs and he sends them to Harper Hall, the main place where all music comes from. Then the harper passes away and her parents forbid her from ever playing an instrument or singing. So a new harper comes and he tries to find the person who wrote the songs. They thought it was a boy and never suspected Menolly. Then one day she had an accident and cut her wrist. Her wrist and hand were crippled from then on so she could not play and instrument. Then one day she runs away, but gets caught in a deadly Threadfall. So she takes shelter and finds nine firelizard eggs (firelizards are a small version of dragons.) there, and when they hatch she impresses them. Then one day Thread falls again and she is stuck. She tries to run but is not fast enough. Then a miracle happens and her life changes forever. Anne McCaffrey is brilliant and can not do any better on this book. The characters are well defined and you fell like you are there. The title fits the story perfect. If you want to experience excitement with myth you should defiantly read this book.

Summary: What a writer! What a book!
Review: I've always been fond of fantasy and Anne McCaffery's series Pern. Even if you have nothing much in common with the characters, you are drawn into a relationship with them. Empathizing with them in all their trials, tribulations and joys. I just can't put this book down even though I've read it so often.

Summary: Even read in the wrong order, it's still good
Review: As stated above I read this in the wrong order, to be specific I read it as part 4 in the series. It fills in some empty spots(of which Anne McCaffrey has left very little), and if you read this in order, introduces new characters that play a vital role.

Menolly, a young girl who is chastized for her gift of music by her family;yet conditions force her to play/teach the young at Half-Circle Sea Hold the ballads. After a while other conditions prevent her from playing and she runs off, unable to withstand the "torment" of the new harper's playing music mixed with the constant chastizing of her family... girls are not supposed to be harpers you know... as she runs off, she comes across a clutch of firelizard eggs in danger. As she saves it, she finds herself in danger of thread, and holds up with the clutch which happens to hatch at that time;after a number of the young impress, the adventures for Menolly continue to grow...
Oh yeah, I don't want to give too much more away, but circumstances make Menolly well sought after by the Masterharper... only neither one know that it's her!

Summary: Sing a Song of Dragons!
Review: This is one of my all-time favorite books. The story of this lonely, neglected musical genius finding her independence and inner strength through the help of 9 winged friends is both touching and exciting. Anne McCaffrey's storytelling style is at its most lyrical in this book, and the result is enthralling. It's my favorite in the Pern series, and the perfect one for teens and pre-teens to start with to get introduced to the series.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This book was wonderful. A musical girl, Menolly, was forbidden to make music by her family when the harper of Half-Circle Sea Hold died. Menolly found herself helping mythical fire lizards. Her life at home becomes unbearable when she cripples her hand and thinks she can never play again. Finnally she ran away and found a clutch of fire lizards. Then she had nine fire lizards of her own. Escaping Threadfall she found herself at Benden Weyr and met the MasterHarper.
This book was a great book for young adults and actually for all ages. Anne McCaffrey is great in portraying how Menolly feels. And I love that the main character is a female because in most books the main characters are guys with large egos and the girls are weak and can't take care of themselves. This book focuses on a strong female who can pretty much take care of herself.

Summary: Anne McCaffrey is the best!
Review: This book is about a girl named Menolly who wishes to be a harper. But they won't let her sing or play at all. She gets beaten once for trying. So she runs away and Impresses 9 fire lizards. Then thread is falling and she runs and runs but finally falls to the ground in defeat. But she doesn't feel thread, she feels...read the book to find out!

Summary: A Great Book About Taking Charge of One's Life!
Review: Awesome! This book was a very good addition to the Dragonriders of Pern series! First of all, the plot was excellent. Menolly, a young teenager, is very good at playing and singing music. However, her skills are out of place and unwanted in the Half-Circle Sea Hold where she lives. After her old mentor, a Harper named Petiron, dies, and a new Harper comes to replace him, Menolly's skills become evn less wanted. She runs away from the safety of her Sea Hold, and soon makes a discovery: The fire lizard, a creature of legend, actually exists! She ends up helping a fire lizard queen to save her clutch of eggs, and impresses nine of the many that hatch. However, danger still lurks. While out foraging one day, Menolly is caught in the Fall of Thread, a silver organism that devours alive anything it touches. She outruns the Thread for a while, but as it is closing in, she is rescued by a dragonrider, who takes her to Benden. There, she meets Lessa and F'lar, Dragonwoman and Dragonman of Pern, and makes a friend in Mirrim, a girl who has three fire lizards. Meanwhile, Elgion, the new Harper at Menolly's Sea Hold, finds out that MENOLLY was the prized apprentice Petiron wrote of. He sets out to find her, along with Robinton, Masterharper of Pern. Will they find her? Read the book to find out. This was a great book, one I would recommend to anyone who's dreamed of getting the best that they deserve.
