Rating: Summary: not too bad Review: I was A bit disappointed in the fact that this book is only a part of a whole story. The other Terry Brooks books took place hundreds of years apart, but these are at roughly the same time. The whole story is really great.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling beginning Review: When I read "Scions of Shannara" I understood that Terry Brooks' newest Shannara-series "The Heritage of Shannara" was going to be at the same level as the first three books. The difference between the two series is that "Heritage" is following ONE story that doesn't end until you've read the last book. This will give you many pleasant evenings in the world of Shannara. Join Par, Coll, Walker Wren, Cogline, Morgan and the others now!
Rating: Summary: A spectacular book with a powerful ending. Review: This book was wonderfully engaging and just as good as the original Shannara series. The characters were described very well and I grew attached to them. Near the end of the book I wanted it to be longer, especially when I realized not all of my questions would be answered. Brooks obviously intended to leave us no choice but to read the next book in the series. However, be prepared for a possibly unsatisfying ending with many questions left unanswered. The end of the book seems incomplete and left me torn apart and unsettled from the emotional power of the book. I would still strongly recommend this book because as long as you are prepared for the ending and are ready to buy the 2nd book then the book will capture you and force you to read the next one.
Rating: Summary: I throroughly enjoyed this one, until... Review: I really liked this book. The characters were well-thought-out, the geography was interesting and somewhat realistic (okay, the the northland, eastland, westland and southland were stupid names for countries), and the plot was good. Or so I thought. You see, I made the mistake of reading this series before I read the original. After I read the Heritage of Shannara before I read the original Shanarra books. After I finished Heritage, I wanted to read Terry Brooks' other stuff, so I picked up The Sword of Shannara. Too bad I already knew what was going to happen because all the important events are rehashed in the first book of Heritage. But, I was shocked to find that as well-written as the Heritage series was, IT WAS THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE FIRST ONE... ok, so it was nice that the characters stayed around for more than one book, but the plot devices were so similar, that I lost a great deal of respect for Brooks' second series. Oh well, at least the first one was good.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it a great deal Review: Although it was not exceptional in any way, this book, and all of its follow-ups in the series, were very fun to read. Terry Brooks seems to have a sincere feel for his creations, most of all for the land, least of all for the characters, but it was enjoyable from any angle.
Rating: Summary: Once you start you will never stop. Review: I started reading T. Brooks with the Elfstones of Shannara which I had picked up at a thrift shop. I did not stop until I ran out of books. T. Brooks is definately on of the greastest fantasy writers there ever has been.
Rating: Summary: Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Well, this was a book, and was a very very very good book to say the least. I started reading this and after the first chapter I couldn't stop, within a few days, it was done and there wasn't any more left except the rest of the series. This book is fantastic! You're not just reading a book for the heck of it when you read this, your actually part of the book. This isn't meant to be taken litteraly by the way. You enjoy it the whole way through and there isn't one part where you even dream of thinking that it might be remotly possible to the least extreme that this book is boring. It captures you it sucks you into it as one would say. The thought of knowing that around any corner, on the next page or even in the next sentance that something could happen, someone could die or something could be found out is just EARTH SHATTERING TO THE MIND. If you havn't read this book yet, read it now, and if you like it well enough you might even email me to say so. And then I would email you back saying: "Told you so, ha ha ha!." I'm serious, this is an excellent book. The power of this oppressive federation controling and abusing the lives of races accross the Four Lands makes you want to put a stop to it and make these pathetic gorillas feel what it is like. But then you find out that the Federation is not the real bad guy, it is a magical power far greater and more evil than a bunch of normal humans could dream of being. I'm telling you READ THIS BOOK!! I order you to read it now. I can promise you that you will thank me in the end.
Rating: Summary: Visit the Four Lands for the price of a paperback! Review: After I finished Wishsong, I was hooked. Terry Brooks follows up the fisrt series with a spectacular new one. I loved the characters in this one, especially the Ohmsford brothers, Par and Coll. I loved the bonds of loyalty and purpose that bound all of the characters together!!! These are my favorite books and I am a diehard fan of sci fi and fantasy. When you read these books its more like living in the four lands for a while rather than just observing what happens through the author's eyes. You are sucked into the story. If you develop any emotional ties to the characters at all. Be prepared to be played like a violin!!
Rating: Summary: wonderful series Review: i kept telling myself to slw down, because when i finish this series it's over, no more Shannara, but i couldn't help it. This series was wonderful. Brooks has found himself with these books. His first books(The sword of, the Elfstones of, the Wishsong of) were good, but if you've read Tolkien Deja vu. These books weren't copycats.
Rating: Summary: Shannara Returns... Review: The saga of the Shannara bloodline continues. The Four Lands lie waste to destruction, and a slow inevitable death caused by the strangling of a conspiring evil whose power is the true hand behind the domination of the Four Lands. Meet the Shadowen. The Scions is trully a well written book that entraps you quickly in the new state of the Four Lands and makes you become almost bewildered by the intense suspense that makes you sweat in nervousness. Terry Brooks has certainly made a book able to stand as the first of a new sequal. If you love fantasy and action, you will love the Scions of Shannara
