Summary: OH MY GOD, THIS IS BAAAAD...
Review: I read some of teh Shannara books when I was a kid. nice, but never worth going back to. I noticed that Brooks was still chugging along recently, so I bit and decided to see what was going on in one of my favorite childhood worlds.

Ummm...nothing much worth reading about.

Summary: You have to read it
Review: This book was absolutly fantastic. Each of the charactors had something special to offer to the plot line. Read the book. Meet Par Ohmsford, who believes that helping the four lands is his born duty, and his brother and protector, Coll. Meet Walker Boh, who has isolated himself from the world. Get to know Morgan Leah, devestated by his loss(and find out what his loss is). And read about Padishar Creel, willing to put everything on the line for what he believes in. You absolutly have to read this book.

Summary: Well read critic from Ca., and a few comments!
Review: I found my first Terry Brooks novel in a used book store when I was about 13. It didnt even have a cover and I can remember sitting in front of the fire and reading it in just one sitting. I would say that is quite an accomplishment for a 13 year old who has never read any books aside from those assighned in school. In a few words it has been ten years since then and I still mourn the fact that Allanon is dead and there will be no more of the infamous Shannara series. Menion Leah, a true american. Hendel a true friend. Prince Eventine, a true brother. Garet Jax, a silent threat, Balinor, what a patriot, Whisper, where can I get one? Allanon, the protector and teacher our nation needs, where are you? Many thanks to Terry Brooks for filling the empty time and creating our fortune cookie, beware of the human race and our accomplishments.

Summary: Terry Brooks is a GENUIS of sci-fi
Review: I thought that this book was really good. I really liked it when you thought that the action was about to end it actually just begins. I think that Terry is one of the best authors that I have ever read books by. Every one I know who has read his books thought that they were fantastic. If you want a great book this one's for you

Summary: interesting..
Review: To be truthful, this was the first Shannara book I've read, but I've read them all including First King. I would have to say that this one was my favorite, mostly because I liked the idea of the shadowen and all the possibilities behind them. Well developed enemies if you ask me. The characters seemed rather similar to their ancestors, but hey that's how Brooks always writes.. Every single book in the first series had new characters that were related. I liked this series because it sticks with one set of them throughout the whole thing. If you want to like the shannara stuff better I would suggest reading the heritage of shannara books before the original, even though you'll wonder who Wil Omsford was and what the Wishsong actually used to be like. The new wishsong is cool though :)

Summary: A tipical Shannara story
Review: Terry Brooks is living in the past. With constant references to the Sword of Shannara and the other books, he basically just changes names of characters and places. The all out story was very good. I would read for two hours straight adn not even notice it. I was that interested in it. Personally, if Terry Brooks wrote more Shannara books I would buy them. No true Shannara fan can say that they wouldn't. His novels are to interesting.

Summary: Not as pleasing as thought to be
Review: I would have expected more from Terry Brooks in this book. A new start of the series.... Something that I had expected to be more wonderful than it proved to be. Brooks seems to use an greater evil in his writing than before. A dark sense of writing you might say. He is most wonderful, as usual, is describing the characters and setting but isn't as good at the story itself. He seems to be less inspired than usual and rather bored with his piece of work. He really should do better than he's done in the "Scions of Shannara".

Summary: good, although predictable, book
Review: It is about time Terry Brooks came up with a new character for once. When he wrote the prelude to the original Shannara series Brooks came through with a great, creative book. From what I've seen of this new series, it seems he has reverted to his habit of simply changing the names and locations and basically leaving the plot and personalities the same. He started his original series obviously using ideas created by JRR Tolkien and he has started this one by using his own ideas over again. Still, I did enjoy this book, if for no other reason than it is the begining of a four-book Brooks tale that will finally allow us to get to know more about main characters than we are usually allowed. I'm sure I will read the rest of the series, not just because I already bought them, but because Brooks has usually told a very good story and I see no reason why this one won't turn out well also. I recommend this book to any fantasy fan.

Summary: An uninspired, mediocre effort from Terry Brooks
Review: One would think that a professional writer would improve his/her craft over time, but in this book, Terry Brooks writes as if he absolutely must, in order to pay bills. Now don't get me wrong - I used to be a big fan of Terry Brooks (and his original 'Sword of Shannara' series), but now I see that he's become mighty fat and lazy. The book reads as if he wrote this in his sleep, making up the characters and plots as he went along, rehashing bits of his previous efforts. Don't waste your time and money on this - I recommend Stephen Donaldson's 'Thomas Covenant' series, if you haven't yet read it.
