Rating: Summary: Yon Ill Wind - Aaaaaaaahhh!!!... Cool! Review: "Yon Ill Wind" - Funny (In some ways), creative, and of course, the best part! (I think) The author's ability to create stories. The creativity in this story is what makes me give it all five stars (And maybe five more!). I think that this book, though childish (In some ways), is one of the most wonderful books I've read. When I say that I mean it has feeling and an almost rhythm to it. I give this book the best for creativity and feeling. I'd highly recommend this book to people such as myself (Really good readers((Adult and young adult included)) ).
Rating: Summary: You'll eat every word! Review: A great book and yet another example of the brilliance and irresistable insanity of Xanth. A cosmic wager takes place between the Demon XA/Nth and the other Demons, and the book goes in 20 million different directions from there. You'll hang on to all the danger, adventure, and intriguing romance that takes place, plus the usual crazy surprises that lay in store for all who read this book. The end will leave you begging for the next Xanth novel!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: A little late, considering this has been out since 1996, but I didn't get a copy of it until the summer of 1997 and finally had time to read it yesterday. Every time I put off reading a Xanth novel (too many books, too little time) I ask myself why. They read quickly and are always good for a laugh. That doesn't explain the fact that I have two more sitting on the shelf waiting to be read while I go on to other titles, but that's life. Read all the Xanth books - they are great! Go back to the beginning so you can enjoy all the characters and the references to stories form the past.
Rating: Summary: One last chance Review: After reading in not quite chronological order all of the Xanth series, the contrasts between the earlier Xanth novels and the more recent ones is tremendous. The developement of the series has seemingly progressed from a unique and interesting world of puns to the more current and fairly repetitive plots of charachter searching for spouse visits Good Magician, conquers troubles, finds spouse in process, the end. (Technically the plot of every Xanth novel.) Though similarly formulaic, Yon Ill Wind differs in its offering of actual character developement. This aspect seems likely due to the mere ability to focus on the main plot of the novel, rather than having the charachters race around and solve all of the unresolved plots from the last ten novels. If you had begun to get slightly bored with the Xanth series and just about ready to give up on it, you might want to give it one more chance with this novel.
Rating: Summary: another example of the master at work !! Review: Anthony will be a hero in my book! I started with "Deamons" and was hooked. This particular "chapter" in the Xanth books however was tiring after the 10th sexual comment. The storyline moved too quickly in parts and slowly in others. Other than that, top billing to Xanth and to Anthony!! Color me a fan!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the earlier ones Review: I am a big Xanth fan, but I hadn't gotten any new episodes for over 10 years, because of becoming a very busy working mother. My brother-in-law got me this one after I had recently re-read all my old ones. The kids having finally gotten interested in Xanth got me going on my re-reading project. I don't think this one measures up. It doesn't flow like the others and you don't get into the story. Maybe it's because there are too many main characters, so that none of them can be developed very well. They all run off in different directions and it's hard to keep track of what is going on or what the characters are like. Maybe it's because, while the earlier stories were essentially cheery, this one has an underlying gloominess throughout. When certain ones of the characters are announced to be in love, it seems like sort of an afterthought. You just don't get inside anyone's head enough to really empathize with them, so there's not enough buildup that would justify the characters' feelings. The puns don't seem to be as good as they used to be either. I don't think I'm just becoming jaded, because I was reading the earlier ones again to my kids at the same time I was reading this one and the earlier ones just seem better.

Rating: Summary: Poorly Written, but Still Fun Review: I am a long-time fan of Anthony's Xanth series. I look back at the older novels with nostalgia, and I picked up Yon Ill Wind after a four-year Xanth hiatus. From the beginning, I was disgusted with how poor the writing itself was. Maybe this is because I'm an English major and a writer and too critical of modern novels, but somehow I didn't remember the old books as being so porly written. It is, however, a fun book, and I'm sure Xanth fans will not blink before picking it up. Non-fans stay away, I say. Far too much "telling" and many of the plot points are way too convenient for the characters(yes, it IS a magic land, but in novels that's just something you DON'T do!)
