Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: Mercedes Lackey has the amazing ability to create a world for her characters to live in, and then transport you there so that all the events seem amazingly real. The entire series is consistantly as good as the first, and they all display her talents as one of the finest fantasy writers of today.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book. It was well written. Review: I enjoyed this book greatly. The way atempets were made at here life kept the book moving. She became a good friend of the Queen, and made many good friends even though her up bringing was against her. You will have to read it to get more info.
Rating: Summary: Great for horse-crazy young people Review: Not that great, in my opinion. Just not exciting. I like fantasy, but contrary to all the reviews that said "Anyone who likes fantasy will love this book", I didn't love this book. I prefer things a little...deeper, more involving. Like Sabriel and The Golden Compass. It also seemed too long; although it wasn't very long, really, I guess I just wanted it to end. It wasn't terrible, but it's far from the best fantasy I've ever read. And Arrow's Flight wasn't much better than this. Trying to think of something positive to say now, to be fair. I love the cover art. This book is probably best for girls age 13-18 who like not-too-serious fantasy with magic and strong (but not unrealistically strong) female characters, and especially for those who like horses. If you like horses and fantasy this is YOUR BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Now I'm hooked!!! Review: I totally loved this book. It's great. Talia is a completely lovable character and she handled the "Royal Brat" expertly. It is a great story about a shy girl and how she comes to deal with the drastic changes in her life. I'd love a horse just like Rolan!I rushed straight out to read the next one.
Rating: Summary: Great for first time fantasy readers! Review: I haven't read a lot of fantasy, but a friend reccomended this book to me, and now I'm hooked! I couldn't put it down! I read the whole book in one night and am planning to read the others in the series as well. If you aren't sure you like books with magic, myth, and folklure, I suggest you read this book.Talia's overwealming shyness and fear of men give the book an emotional feel. The antics of Skif make the book funny, and the tales of the Heralds on the circuit add drama. If you're looking for a well founded book, this is it.
Rating: Summary: A Good Start to Valdemar Review: This was the first Valdemar book I had ever read. Guess what. I got hooked. Now I've read every single one, and am waiting impatiently for more. :) You can really emphasize with Talia, and I found myself comparing everything I did to what a Herald would do for months afterward. Actually, I still do. :) Get this book. You won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: This book is Mercedes Lackey's best. Review: I thought this was her best novel. One can really sympathize with Talia's problems and enjoy the way she handles the "Royal Brat". I am constantly picking it up to read portions of it again and again and again. It draws you in from the beginning and does not stop. I'd reccommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy.
Rating: Summary: She got to me again!!! Review: I just love this author. She has the ability to put you in the story along with the main characters. I cared what happened to Talia and crew, and I just can't wait for more books in this particular vein.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book Review: I loved this book. It has an amazing plot and is incredibly well written. I suggest this book to ANYONE who likes fantasy, or anyone who just wants to read a good book. Be sure to read the next 2, I couldn't put any of them down.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story about a dream that came true. Review: My mother gave me this book when I was 13 years old, the same age as the main character, Talia. That was all it took for me to become a huge Mercedes Lackey fan. Talia is a wonderful character, with all the strengths and weaknesses of a real person, and Misty's interpretation of the shy adolescent is remarkable. There is a huge growth of character as we see Talia begin to fit in and enjoy life and assume the responsibility of the highest ranking Herald, second only to the Queen herself. Parents, you'll love the way she handles the spoiled Princess Elspeth (the Royal Brat). Truly, this is a book that all teens and adults should read. To become a fan of Valdemar, start here and work your way through all Mercedes Lackey's books
