Rating: Summary: I just finished it. Review: I just finish reading this book RIGHT NOW and I must say that it was very interesting...I have to admit that I really did enjoy the book...I'm not a person who really reads books, but I really did get into this book. Aside from the fact that I like dragons and there's a love story in it, the book itself was surprisingly good...I only hope that the sequels are equally as good.
Rating: Summary: DON'T SKIP THIS REVIEW Review: I am 15 and LOVE childrens and young adult fantasy. I recently e-mailed Jane Yolen - she is great. That got me reading her books. I have only read A Sending of Dragons and Dragon's Blood but they're both excellent and i am looking forward to reading more. This books is about Jakkin and his dragon and how he wants to get his freedom because he is bound in work. These books and are really interesting that you don't want to put them down. To all this is certainly a great buy and happy reading to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Dragon's Blood Review: This book rules! I read it over the summer and I couldn't put it down. The story is about a yough boy who is a slave in a dragon raising city. He went on a quest to pay his way out of slavery. To do that he stole a baby dragon and raised itto fight. He would earn money fighting his dragon with other dragons. This book is great for all ages over 10 because it can get a bit confusing. But all and all it is a great book. The best I read all summer!
Rating: Summary: Confusing at first, but a wonderful story Review: Dragon's Blood was a little hard to get into. The beginning is kind of thick with many unfamiliar concepts like Austar, the baggaries, and bonders. However, as the book went on (reading a book is like a language--you just have to get the hang of it) all of those things became more clear. Overall it is a wonderful book and the sequels are equally good.
Rating: Summary: Good, but Bad Review: My son and I enjoyed reading this book together. However, parents, be ready for the questions you may get asked. Even though the author is a woman, she still falls into the stereotypical trap of making all of the female characters in the book child prostitutes, alleged prostitutes or reformed prostitutes. I wish she'd used a little more imagination and given women a fair shake. It was fun trying to explain this concept to my 10 year old. Besides that, the book was very enjoyable and the issues of drug use, prostitution and child abuse are couched in such a way that most readers will probably gloss over them. I recommend the read, just be ready to educate the unwary.
Rating: Summary: What a beginning! Review: Jane Yolen has long been one of my favorite authors, and with this novel she endeared herself to me even more. It features a coming of age story in which our hero, young Jakkin Stewart, steals a hatchling dragon in an attempt to release himself from indentured servitude. Along the way he learns discipline and develops a relationship with Akki, who helps him to train his dragon to fight.I would heartily recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10.
Rating: Summary: The bigining Review: I am a student in high school, and I have just began to read this book. The book is very captivating and have kept me reading.I am not a reader, but everyone tells me you just have to find the right book.I've read many other books trying to fing what I want to read, or what kind of books I like to read. From love stories to the best selling fantasy books like 'Lord of The Ring' to 'The Sword Dancer'.If you want to start reading good books start reading this one,and after you've read this one why not finish the whole trilogy! Now for parents who want their kids to read or are looking for a book to get your children started this would be a great choice. This is a great book ,but a few of the names in this book are wacked.Take my word for it I couldn't read until I was in seventh grade after I found the right book I can't stop reading.
Rating: Summary: For people of all ages Review: I loved this book, it had wonderful character developement and surprises around every...uh...page! Though I did find the ending rather superficial, or imposible. This book is GREAT for readers between the ages of "Harry Potter" and JRR Tolkien, though I think people of all ages would find this to be an amazing adventure!
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Read For Any Age Review: There aren't that many authors who've mastered the art of telling a story that's simple enough that children can get drawn into it, yet complex enough not to bore adults or young adults. J. K. Rowling is one. Diane Duane is another. And Jane Yolen, as she proves in _Dragon's Blood_, is definitely a third. Set in a vividly-painted world with a detailed society, _Dragon's Blood_ is a coming-of-age story that features dragons on par with McCaffrey's or Duane's when it comes to the ability to enchant. As most such stories do, it has a happy ending... but not completely happy, and if Jakkin seems to have an unusual amount of luck on his side, Yolen still manages to tell his story in a way that won't make adults (who tend to be more cynical than starry-eyed young teenagers) roll their eyes and toss the book aside. On the flip side of the coin, while concepts such as prostitution, maturity achieved through sex, and drug addiction are mentioned, this is done tastefully and with a definite message against all of the above. I wouldn't hesitate to give this book to a child, though the very young or very sheltered might have questions about these issues after reading. With a strong plot, realistic characters, a colorful setting, and the perpetual delight that is (well-portrayed) dragons, _Dragon's Blood_ would give either a youngster or an adult a great introduction to the fantasy genre. For those who are already fans, add this one to your bookshelf; you won't be sorry. However, you might want to wait until you've read it before purchasing the sequels, neither of which quite measure up to their predecessor.
Rating: Summary: a childhood favorite Review: I've loved this book and this series since I was in grade school. It started me on a lifelong love of fantasy. This is worth finding and reading for the memorable characters if nothing else.
