Summary: A thoroughly engrossing book for readers of all ages
Review: The young dragon turned its black eyes toward him and Jakkin felt as if he could see strange constellations being born in the endless night of its eyes. "Be though ever my friend," Jakkin whispered.

The dragon answered him with a weak trickle of smoke through its nose slits. It was no more than a patch of light fog, then was gone. But that it was smoke, the first conjurings of the fire of a fighting dragon, Jakkin was sure.

Fifteen-year-old Jakkin is a bond servant in Master Sarkkhan's dragon barns. Jakkin longs to be free. His only hope of obtaining enough money to free himself seems to be to steal a dragon to train secretly as a fighter. His best bet is to take an egg, for all hatchlings are accounted for at birth. Unfortunately, a high proportion of eggs are infertile and Jakkin doesn't get the opportunity to take one, so his only option is to steal a hatchling. And finally fate seems to be on his side ...

But what if he is caught? Worse still, what if he finds he doesn't know enough to train his dragon well enough to become a true champion?

While repelled by the idea of creatures being pitted against each other in the fighting ring for the profit (or pleasure, come to that) of their human owners, I still found this novel, book one in The Pit Dragon trilogy, a thoroughly engrossing read and look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

As so often happens, the publisher of this edition makes no mention of the other books in the trilogy. It isn't as though there is no room on the last page to list them. Worse still, however, is the omission on the cover of the fact that this is part of a trilogy. Since this novel was originally published in 1982 and this is a 1996 edition, I find the omission particularly unforgivable.

Summary: Dragon's Blood
Review: The book Dragon's Blood is about a boy who is kept as a watcher in his masters cave watching the dragons eggs. Its wrong for him to take an egg but he has a strong feeling that there is a dragon in the paticular egg that he goes to. He can't be sure about this because not all the eggs hatch. He wants to be a great trainer but ts hard.
I would recomend this book to a young age group.

Summary: Best of the trilogy
Review: I read this book a very long time ago, a book I borrowed from the library. I thought it great; dragons have always been a beloved topic of mine. If you like dragons, this is definitely the book for you. I liked it so much I bought the whole trilogy because of it, but 'Dragon's Blood' is the best in my opinion. The sequals weren't as good as I hoped, but not bad. The other thing was that I liked the original covers better, which you can probably still see in most libraries, but not in bookstores today.

Summary: I Loved this as a kid
Review: I can't remember the details of this book too well, as I read it years ago, but I do remember being completely engrossed and obsessed by it. I always loved dragon books, and this one was one of the highlights. I loved the concept of breeding the dragons, I loved the characters, I was completely absorbed by the plot. Someone said that the sequels weren't as good. I can't really remember them, but I'm sure that this one was by far the best. All children who enjoy fantasy should at least try this book, I feel it is Jane Yolen's best.

Review: This book is awesome! If you like dragons and fantasy, you got to read this book! This book has weird words in it but overall you could understand what was going on. The good points in this book is the mystery and adventure! The only problem is.............the ending. I thought it was going to be better. I would still recomend this book to young readers though!

Summary: good series gone rotten
Review: We had this book in our classroom library and I picked it up and started reading reading it. My sister had suggested it and I thought, 'okay I might as well try it, but I hope it doesn't end up like Winters Tale.' This book is AMAZING! I loved it. This is Jane Yolen's finest book yet. The story was so good, I couldn't put it down for one moment. After I finished this incredibly written story, I read the second and third books. They didn't even compare. In fact, they ruined the whole entire series. After reading the second one, my sister never even bothered to pick up the third one. I won't rate this first class book lower than I should because of the rest of the series but just to warn you, watch out. This is one of those good series gone rotten, in my opinion. My friend said she liked the second one but she didn't exactly bother to defend it much. Enjoy Dragon's Blood but it's best to leave Heart's Blood and A Sending of Dragons alone.

Summary: #1 fantasy book
Review: This is the best book of all times! In my opion Dragons Blood was better than the first two books in Harry Potter. The ending was so unexpected I never saw it comming. The book always keept you thinking "what is going to happen next". I did not want to put the book down because it was so good. I admit there is some strange words in this book but when you read the book you get use to them saying the strange words. Well I hope this book review has been helpful. But my review does no compare to the book it self.
