Rating: Summary: Boring Review: This is without doubt the weakest of all the Heritage books.Whilst the book is true to Brooks' usual descriptive & detailed style, for me, it represents a missed opportunity to do something really interesting with an adventure away from the Four Lands. Don't get me wrong, the book is relatively enjoyable to read, but is spoilt by Brooks' bad habit of constantly repeating the same thought narrative of the main character, which gets very boring. The other matter that lets this book down is the main character, Wren. Brooks has tried to create an inspirational, sensitive, yet no-nonsense female lead for the novel. However, as the story gets going, I found myself becoming less & less convinced by the overly-sentimental antics & thoughts of Wren to the point where she was becoming so corny & stereotypical I was beginning to lose patience. So then, when Brooks decided to introduce a small furry animal called a 'tree-sqeak' that lives in Wren's jacket (bringing to the book as much credibility as the Ewoks brought to Star Wars), I was seriously considering putting the book down for good. However, the Heritage series on the whole, is excellent & I felt I owed it to Brooks to carry on reading, if for no other reason than to complete the picture regarding Wren & her Elven heritage. I needn't have bothered really. This book offers little to the series in the way of storyline development and the character Wren is just too cheesy - Its hard to believe that its been written by the same guy who wrote the engrossingly dark Druid of Shannara - but there is just about enough else here to keep you interested in order to move onto the final book, Talismans of Shannara
Rating: Summary: A Good Book Review: This was a pretty good book although you do find yourself wanting to skip ahead when the action seriously slows to a crawl. Brooks's best writing seems to be of the Elves. He, although to a lesser degree than Tolkien, finds the Elves to be the greatest of the races. His writing makes you feel that the Elves are what Man might have been, a pure people, with falts, but dedicated to preseration instead of destruction. By the end of this book all of the Shannara children had apparently accomplished their charges and their ultimate fate will be decided in the next, final, edition to the series. I recommend this book to both Brooks fans and fantasy fans alike.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Job! Review: This was probably my favorite book that Terry Brooks has written. At first I thought it was really sad(I won't tell you why!) but I can understand why Terry Brooks put that in there. The Elf Queen of Shannara is definitely a good book to read if you are in to fantasy/action-adventure books, and/or if you like Terry Brooks.
Rating: Summary: Continuing drab storyline Review: While Brooks has improved the story flow and character development over the course of the original series of three books and the heritage series, he still gets bogged down in characters inner thoughts and just doesn't seem to have to talent to pull it off. I don't understand how a girl can face all the "evils" she does, becoming disgusted by them and terrified of them, but put an unbelievable amount of trust in a splinterscat she knows nothing about. Be as worldly as she is supposed to be and capable of leading a race of elves, but not have been outside one section of the continent she was born on, and have lead no one anywhere. How she can fall in love with a minor character she only knew for a few days and she hardly talked to. These don't seem to be stumbling blocks for Brooks, but God help his characters try to use the magic that is supposed to save the world as their destiny guides.
Rating: Summary: The truth behind the Shodowen. Review: Wren travels to Morrwindl to find the Elves and to find her past. Owl was a great person and I wished he hadn't died, but I am glad he died protecting the Queen. Wren's cousin was stupid to think he could bring back the magic, especially after what happened with the other monsters created. And this is how Wren figures out the the Shadowen are really Elves with magic that were subverted. I was kind of glad the he died though, he was a jerk to Wren when he stole the Loden. This book was kind of a happy story, because nothing sad happened like what happened to Quickening. This is a good book, and I really enjoyed it, and hope that you will like it too.
Rating: Summary: My favorite of the Heritage of Shannara Review: Wren was ordered by the shade of Allanon to find the Elves, who had been missing for some time, and to bring them back to the world of men.
I won't tell you more about the book, you have to read it for yourself. I'm pretty sure you'll like it! So read it!
