Summary: Patrick's The Hero and the Crown Review
Review: The book The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley is definitely for the older audience. If your'e going to read it, you should know that the first few chapters are very confusing. The book is abouta girl named Aerin, (a dragon hunter),who goes in search of the Hero's Crown. The Hero's crown is a crown that can repel evil. The book is for the fantasy lover. It is similar to to the Harry Potter books because it contains a bit of sorcery. The book has more of a medeival theme to it,though.

Summary: A Great Fantasy epic
Review: This book is a Great book about a young heroine that does not realise the full plot of her destiny. The young womans name is Aerin and she is the princess of Damar, a pleasant country that once held the most powerful relics in their world. The Heros Crown. The Heros Crown could make anyone who wore it nearly invincible and what ever kingdom had it would be protected from any foreign armys. Aerin's mother came from the northern country and most of the people in Damar called her a witch. She gave birth to Aerin but they say she died of shock for not having a son who could take over the throne when the other king passed away. Most people in the streets of Damar always whisper behind Aerins back "Witch womans daughter!" but Aerin has learned to deal with it. If you don't own this book already I would highly reccomend that you go out and buy it!

Look for the other book in the seires The Legand of the Blue Sword. The Hero and the Crown has many strange creatures in it. This includes: dragons, deomons, foltza, yeirg, and immortals. This book has everything from monsters to wizards to pesky dragons. This epic novel is a sure fire page-turner.

Summary: My Review of hero and the crown
Review: This is a adventure of a young woman named Aerin. She lives in the country of Damar, supposedly the home of the ancient crown. Aerin is picked on by the rest of the townfolk because everyone says her mother was a witch. They call her things like "witch woman." Aerin is very strong-hearted and does her best to concur all that stands in her way. Dont be intimadated by the confusing plot, once you are through the beggining it becomes an easier read. This is a interesting book! I recommend this book to an more advanced reader, because of the far-out plot.

Summary: The Hero and the Crown
Review: This is a great fantasy book about a young girl name Aerin that is teased because her mother was a witch. She goes on to be one of the greatest dragon slayers in the country of Damar. I did not really like this book because it was a little out of date. If it were more modern like "Harry Potter" I probably would have liked it more. But overall it was an OK book.

Summary: Great Fantasy Read
Review: The Hero and the Crown is a thoroughly enjoyable fantasy read. I wonder how I missed this one when it was first published; I would have been at the right age to be interested. In any case, I've made up for the ommission now, and I suggest that others do the same, if the omission is indeed there. The book is not as epic in scope as, for example, Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, and the protagonist perhaps not as memorable as others, but the children's fantasy genre is quite competitive! I also found the writing to be a bit odd at times -- interspersed here and there are sentences that just plain don't make sense. Overlooking those provisos, though, I do give the book 4 stars. Ms. McKinley does a solid job of introducing her readers to the land of Damar, of providing plenty of action. A good selection for any fantasy fan, though not groundbreaking.

Summary: A fantastic tapestry of a story
Review: I first discovered this work two years ago while hunting for some refreshing fantasy to read in a public library I happened into. While hunting through the sci-fi section this book bumped into me. Swiftly, I was drawn into the world of Damar and I ended up doing something quite unexpected! I bought the book, AFTER having had the chance to read it for free. The reason: this book does something extraordinary, it praises and tributes both the genre of fantasy AND the english language in a unique and special way. A gifted novelist, McKinley has the talent of a excellent literary craftsperson; comparable in her way to a mastercraftman like Louis Comfort Tiffany and his wonderfully inspired stained glass pieces, to be exact. You'll surely be drawn in by each intuitively woven paragraph. Not a word is wasted; each layer reveals the story of a young woman, which at times is so bitter, and at times so joyous, that it might indeed move one to tears (I can't believe I wept during some parts of this book, an occurance which has never happened before or since). It begs to be said again, McKinley's technique is excellent. This book is a must have for any reader who enjoys really fine and imaginative fantasy...happy reading!

Summary: For all ages
Review: I first read this book in the fourth grade. Although I am now 21 I re-read this book often, and it remains one of my favorites. It is an excellent book for young girls. In many ways Aerin's battle is the battle that all women face; the fight to be accepted for who she is, not to be stereotyped for being a woman. In an era when books still tend to display dragon-slayers as men, it is refreshing to see an author with a larger perspective.

Other issues of adolesence are addressed in this book. Peer pressure, the feeling of being an outcast, the journey towards discovering herself ... although these are written in a different context than what we experience today, they are still extremely relevant to today's youth.

Buy this book and give it to your daughters. They will thank you for it!

Summary: exciting and empowering
Review: I read this book for the first time in seventh grade. I am only twelve, but I have read many good books, and this is one of my favorites. It is an exciting story of adventure, and even though I don't usually read that genre, I enjoyed it fully. Aerin is a great character for people, especially young girls, to read about. She definetly found a strengh in me that I never knew I had. McKinley is an amazing author, and The Hero and the Crown is one of her best books. I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Review: Being a fan of fantasy stories, I particularly liked this book. Its use of wonderful and appealing and I recommended it highly to my friends. The character Aerin is a magnificent character, and Talat reminds me of my own faithful dog, Walter. Read this book, no matter how old you are!
