Rating: Summary: The Wings of Merlin was awesome Review: A semi-long time fan of T.A. Barron's Lost Years of Merlin series, I was very excited when I heard that there was going to be a fifth book in the series. Being the teenager that I am, I immediately had my day order the book for me and I began reading it as soon as I could, and I finished it in two days. It was a very good book in my opinion and I would recommend it to anyone. There is only one thing that I didnt like about the book though, and that was the ending. If I had to choose between leaving someone I love to fulfill my "destiny" or staying with the person I love and care about more than anything, I would definately choose staying with the person I love. But other than the ending it was an extremely well written book, even better than Harry Potter. I especially loved the sword armed man. I was so surprised when he revealed his identity. If you liked his earlier books, you will definately like this one
Rating: Summary: The last, best chapter Review: All good things must come to an end, and no good thing could come to a better one. The last chapter in the Lost Years of Merlin saga is the best. It is full of everything that makes Barron's books so wonderful- excitement, suspense, surprises, and unexpected twists. It is a tale of love and friendship, of hope and despair, of defeat and triumph, of revenge and forgiveness. Here is a wonderful, heartbreaking story, a story to make you laugh and cry, a jewel of a story to treasure forever, to read again and again. I would recommend this book, this entire series to anyone who wishes for a beautiful, true story. For while the story of Merlin's youth is a fairy tale, in it's fantasy it is truer than the facts in any book- to the spirit at least. I would encourage children to loan it to their parents, and parents to read it with their children. Reading this book is a truly marvelous experience.
Rating: Summary: and excellent ending to an excellent epic Review: All the books of, "The Lost Years of Merlin," are truly wonderful! I can never stop reading them, although now I am forced to, since the series is ending. I do not want to give away the plot to the people who have not read this yet, but if you have enjoyed the other books in this series, you will like this one. This book also features the hardest decision that Merlin made in his life. This book is written in such a way that you feel what the character is, and feel the love for Merlin's love, the hate for Stangmar and the pain of how his race was. Do yourself a favor, and get a copy of this book!
Rating: Summary: As good as the others if not better! Review: Barron has added a great inclusion not only to the series but to the life of the legendary Merlin...Though it wasn't the best in the series it was still a marvolous book. Like the book's predacessor's I couldn't put it down, from its mysterious beginning to its triumphant end the book is wonderful. My only regret was that it ended, but since it had to it ended as wonderfully as it could have. The final battle lifted my spirits like no other book has done; it combined aspects of all four of the other books and the outcome was fantastic. In the final chapter (I won't spoil it by telling you the details) I couldn't help but feel saddened but like everything an end must come eventually. I encourage you to read the dramatic conclusion to the series but not before you've read its predacessors. May the Force be with you...
Rating: Summary: Great series! Review: Do not view these as five individual books, but as five pieces of a whole saga. To read only one would be to cheat one's self of seeing an entire picture. The epic begins with an child with no memory being raised by a mysterious woman in a small village. Both of them are regarded as local oddities and driven to live in a convent. The boy is known as Emrys, but never feels that that is his true name. As he matures, he develops gifts and wonderous powers, along with an increasing need to know who he is. Eventually, he goes upon a quest in search of his heritage, one that will lead him to the lands his mother's stories spoke of, the Hidden World outside of time and this life. He finds himself in the midst of a battle between warring demigods, and finds a new name for his own, Merlin. As Merlin journeys through the five books, he makes new friends and bitter enemies. This is a world filled with dragons, witches, goblins, and lost treasures. Secrets that are as powerful and painful as a two edged blade are discovered. Otherworlds are crossed, time itself bends to give the boy a glimpse of his own destiny, and choices musst be made that will affect far more than just Merlin. ***** Elements of other classics are hinted at, but applied in new ways and familiarity only serves to endear. This is a grand saga without the weightiness of other epics. Rather, it is easy to read and charming. This Merlin can stand alongside Tolkien's hobbits or Harry Potter proudly. ***** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore.
Rating: Summary: Great Book , sad ending Review: Hello fans of Merlin. I thought every one of T. A. Barrons books were extremely exciting, lovable, sad, and GREAT! Ever since i read the first book of this series ive been hooked. I loved everyone of these books. Though however the end did seem to bug me. It is true but it sadens me that at the end he left behind his family, sister, and love. Though that is how it goes sadly. Anyways i really wished T.A.Barron would write another book on this i mean if he could write about Merlins childhood couldnt he atlast write what happened after he became on earth and how everythin started on earth? Anyways overall this was a GREAT book and i hope that you buy this book along with every other novel T.A.Barron wrote.

Rating: Summary: Two - Thumbs DOWN! Review: I read the "Lost Years of Merlin" with great expectations for the following books in Baron's series of Aurthurian legends focusing around Merlin, the wizard that started it all. All great series go down eventually, especially when the idea gets stale. I hate to see authors' books decline when it comes to part-two of master peices. With a heavy-heart, a trudged through the last book of this series reluctantly. So, what happened? Merlin and Halia have totally fallen for each other (as if that wasn't obvious from the previous book). In this final installment, Merlin must bring the land of Fincayrara (spelling, anyone?) together for the last battle agianst Rhita Gawr. But there's one problem - a boy with swords for arms stands in his way, the mysterios Slayer. Who is the Slayer? Will Merlin succeed in bringing the island together? Find out in "The Lost Years of Merlin." Why wasn't I thrilled about this book? There is no continuing character devolpment. First Merlin is adventurous and bold (Book 1.), if not a bit selfish. All this magic stuff is getting the better of him, and he's plain arrogent in the second novel. But what of him now? He's nothing but pure, bravehearted, "I must save my home!". The relationship between him and Halia is childish and FAR too mushy for my tastes. It's as if that's the only thing that stands in Merlin's way. His *sniff* LOVE for Halia. The un-originality. Bring people together to fight a mutual enemy? FINALLY finish off Rhita Gawr after four books of messing around? Isn't that the main idea for practically EVERY cheesy fanasy book on the shelf? Think sophisticated Harry Potter (hate those books). Then there's the ending - don't even get me started! The ending was shot to be an emotionally difficult time for Merlin. His final decision to become what we know him as at King Arthur's side took him all about five minutes (the equalivent of a page) to make up his mind about the rest of his life. Want good fantasy? Drop out after the first book. I recommend "The High King", by Llyod Alexander or Robin McKinley's (sp?) "Blue Sword" books. How about "The Horse and His Boy", a classic tale of Narnia? For interesting and CREATIVE sci-fi/fantasy try reading the "Last Book in the Universe" for some summer fun. "Ender's Game" is quite close to being brilliant. Lost Wings of Merlin worth your money? Yeah, right. Don't even get it from the library or borrow it from a friend. It's not worth your TIME.
