Summary: The White Mountains-Book Review
Review: Book Review

The White Mountains is a Science Fiction Book. It is about 200 pages worth of science Fiction. Basically, there are huge metal figure called tripods and they are ruling their world. At the age of 13 boys get "capped". What that means is that the tripods put a device on their head and then the tripods control the person. There is one boy that doesn't want to get capped so he tries to runaway. He has heard of a place called the White Mountains were nobody is capped and everybody is living freely. On his runaway, he find Henry following him. Therefore Will and Henry try to runaway. Then they meet Beanpole. After that it is just them. On their way there is a tripod following them. They get into a battle and finally kill him.
What I like about this book is that it always keeps you interested. I also like how the author created the tripods and how they work. Everything in this book comes together sooner or later. It was really fun for me to read this book not only because I like the storyline but because I really love Science Fiction. The Three boys encounter so many battles and still make it with an interesting journey. If anyone were to ask me for a good book to read, I would definetly say, " You should read The White Mountains".

Summary: Four books in one....
Review: This is a great series. In the first book an alien race comes to Earth in the form of the Tripods. We know little of who they are or why they come, but they easily learn about how humans work and are soon taking over the planet (but I won't tell you how). The second book (and in reality the first book published) we find ourselves on a Earth that has been ruled by the Masters and their Tripods for as long as anybody can remember. While Will Parker, Henry Parker and Beanpole, the major characters of the last three books, seem to find everything from before the Masters, such as the City of the Ancients and even a simple wristwatch, strange and fearful the readers (us) find it normal and rich in details only they can truly understand. The third book and the fourth continue to follow the characters from the second novel, as they fight to free the world from the Master's tyranny. With each book, with each page we (and the humans within the novels) learn more and more about the alien race, till they no longer seem like Gods, just very advanced creatures, even likeable in some ways. But they HAVE to be stopped, for their future plans for Earth do NOT include humans. In fact, if they are not stopped, all native life on the planet is doomed!

Summary: A Great Science Fiction Book for Kids
Review: If you enjoy science fiction books, then you should read When The Tripods Came. This must read book is a story about a boy named Laurie living in a world that was recently taken over by giant tripods. These mechanical monsters are quickly destroyed but not before they manage to hypnotize most of the planet's population. The world is taken over; Laurie, his family, and his friend, Andy flee from England where they were living. They go to live with Laurie's stepmom who left to stay with Laurie's grandma and ill grandpa. The small town where they had sought refuge is quickly taken over and they are forced to seek refuge in the mountains. Can they survive in a world conquered by tripods? To find out read the series.
If you like science fiction, adventure, and friendship, you have to read this book. This book is only one in a series of four. I enjoyed this book and I think you will too.

Summary: Reads like pulp sci-fi (and that's a good thing!)...
Review: People read sci-fi for a variety of reasons and it seems like different 'eras' of sci-fi cater to these different tastes. There are plenty of sci-fi books which explore complex mythological, political or social conscience ideas, and that is fine. But, occasionally, even folks who enjoy 'heavy science fiction' just want to be entertained!

If you are in the mood to be entertained, the Tripods series will do the job nicely. It has all the elements of the older pulp sci-fi books ('Have Spacesuit Will Travel' comes to mind)...3 young boys as the protagonists, alien landings, sneaking aboard spacecraft, etc.

What are you waiting for? Earth needs you...

Summary: Wonderful series - shame about the TV version being axed :(
Review: I read these books early at primary school (at about the age of seven) and haven't read them since, but I do remember being utterly entralled, and learning a few new words :)

Recently my husband and I got our hands on the TV serial...which was discontinued after 25 episodes (books one and two), and which we both saw as children. It was really hard to come to the end of the series, which was axed before book three was dramatised, and not be able to go on. We've now ordered the books from Amazon, so we can reread them, but I really regret that the BBC cancelled the show.

These books are ideal for children and adults. Read them and pass them on to others.

P.S. I'm disappointed that so many Amazon readers have found it necessary toput 'spoilers' in their reviews. Having the plots of the books outlined in such specific terms will really spoil the experience for others.

Summary: You'll be GLUED!
Review: If you like science fiction, and want a month or 2's worth reading material, you will like these books. I could not stop reading them!

Summary: cool book
Review: The City Of Gold And Lead is one of my favorite books. It has a lot of technology like the tripods (robots). I like that it is set in the future but everything is from the past. In this sequel Will is chosen to be a slave. He does that so he can study the tripods and tell the king of the White Mountains what the tripods are like. It is such a cool book and everyone should read it at least once.

Summary: Great Entertainment!
Review: The first time I read these books was when I was in grade school, and for years I could remember the story but not the book titles. Finding them on Amazon and reading them again after all these years was a joy.

The author weaves a tale of adventure that will captivate young people and adults alike. The perspective is that of a young boy who lives in a future Earth in which an alien race has
conquered earth and controls humans through mind control devices that force allegiance to the alien race and the Tripod machines they travel in. Despite the technology of the alien race, humans live as they did in the middle ages. The story is about this young man's journey and how teams of free young people, not under the influence of the mind control, try and destroy the alien cities and free humanity.

The books were written in the late 1960's so some of the symbolism of the decade reveals itself, although subtly. The most powerful aspects of the book series are the depictions of the landscape and the alien city conditions and the coming of age of this young man. The author captures the thoughts and emotions of this central character quite well.

The "newest" book, written as a prequel to the "White Mountains" series, was written well after the other three books and as a result has a different feel and tone. It is a "throw in" for the set, but doesn't add much value.

Overall, a fun and enjoying read for all ages.

Summary: a book for both genders
Review: I found this book in junior high, as a 13 year old girl I was still faschinated by the characters. I am disturbed by this being labeled as a "boys" book. I think that the characters, while male, still hold a universal appeal. Anyone male or female can relate to the adventures of the book. I loved it in junior high and I still love it over 20 years later. I have three children that I plan to introduce the book to and one of them is a girl. I know they will ALL love it.
