Rating: Summary: The Source of Magic Review: Imagine yourself in a world where everyone has a magic spell. Now, picture yourself as someone on a quest to find the source of the magic. Now, imagine yourself with a centaur, a griffin, a golem, and a strange wizard. This is what happens to Bink, while his wife is throwing him out. He searches through all of the world of Xanth, with the help of his friends. He runs into all sorts of dangerous traps, but his magic talent saves him. However, where he goes, even all of his magic might not be enough to save him! When I read this book, I at first was just interested in the plot. Through the plot twists, I couldn't put it down. Near the end, where there are even more surprises, I almost burned the book. However, the end more than made up for the part that made me want to scream. All in all, The Source of Magic was a very worthwhile book to read.
Rating: Summary: da best zanth book 'ands down Review: it was non stop butt kickin action from start ta finish. it simply took what small peices of xanth that "a spell for chamelion" gave us blasted them right open. this gave us a veiw of the true nature of xanth.
Rating: Summary: Boom Boom! Peirs Anthony explodes onto paper again! Review: Piers Anthony has got to be one of the most talented authors I've ever read. When I find myself reading he's books.. I'm not just reading anymore.. I find myself transported into his books. I'm there right along with Bink and the hole gang. When I stop on one page it's like pushing pause on the VCR of your favorite , tapped, movie. Though I think this book is one of my more favorite one's of the Xanth sersis. I love the plot twists and the road of discovery that Bink is set apon. Trust me if you've never read this book before.. you be pleasantly surprised by the ending. For it's not just a journey to find the source of magic for all of Xanth but a insight into Bink himself. Though in doing so he might destroy everything else in the progress.. Watch, read and find out what happens next. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Why can't you give this 6 stars?? Review: Source of Magic: Best Xanth book ever!!! Take that back, erase "Xanth"! This book gets better and better..I would most definitely getting this.
Rating: Summary: A far cry from the first one, but what the heck Review: The first Xanth novel, A Spell for Chameleon, was a great book because it defined Bink's problem early so that everything that happened subsequently had a special meaning in his life. There was not a lot of action in that book, but it was written with style; Bink had a lot of reflections. This one had more action, but worse character and plot development. I liked Chameleon in her ugly phase in the first one, because although she was smart she was still nice. In this one she's a vixen. The only reason Bink goes on this adventure is that he can't stand his wife, which means that as interesting as the adventure gets, it's meaningless. I had a harder time relating to this story and putting myself in it. Magician Trent plays a lesser role in this one; he's my favorite, and I missed him. The BEST part of this book is when you realize just how powerful Bink's talent is, and you wonder why he's so insecure and self-conscious, in contrast to Trent. In Xanth, a person with powerful magic, like Trent, has an easier time becoming a man because he cooly and confidently assesses every dangerous situation, while Bink, though just as powerful, gets nervous. He refuses to see his talent as part of his identity; he fights it, tries to solve his own problems without its aid. Bink should be happy; the fact that he wasn't diminished his character. Xanth are the best books I've ever read, but seeing as how I've read very few books, at least relative to the number of books out there, this may or may not mean anything to you. They're all fundamentally similar, but they also have amazing differences.
Rating: Summary: Great 2nd Book in Xanth Series Review: The Source of Magic is a great sequel to A Spell for Chameleon. A non-stop adventure with wonder and humor. The first 4 Xanth books make great reading material for teens, and really make reading enjoyable. After Centaur Aisle, the series degenerates. The stories and characters get poorer. Xanth loses all it's charm and cohesion after that point. The main characters are kids and kid like characters. Stick with A Spell for Chameon, The Source of Magic, Castle Roogna, and Centaur Aisle for the best of Xanth.
Rating: Summary: A book you should be reading! Review: The Source of Magic is the best book that the Xanth series has to offer! I liked it because the author actually put me in Bink's shoes in his quest for the source of magic. It also gave me a sense of discovery from page 1! I would recommend this book to anyone with a good sense for the supernatural elements. If you have that sense, you won't be able to put the book down. In fact, you may even have to read the book twice! Hint: The book doesn't turn out as drastic as the end of the summary makes it sound.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling fantasy classic Review: There are many authors in the world, but none of them can do better than Piers Anthony. The Source of Magic was so thrilling, I hardly put the book down. It also has an ending you would never imagine. You have to read this book in order to know the meaning of the word "Magical."
Rating: Summary: best place to start in Xanth Review: There's about a 100 Xanth books out there, and they don't strictly require you to start at book one and move forward (although there are advantages to that), so where to start? In my opinion, the second book is the best entry into Anthony's odd world. The first book, A Spell For Chameleon, is a bit dry and slow. It wasn't until the second that Anthony caught his stride. Here we've got a happy medium for Xanth, fun and whimsical but not unbearably punny and ridiculous like the later novels. Adding to that is a pretty decent story, where Bink, Humphrey and others must discover the source of power that enables magic in Xanth. The source is pretty interesting, as is what Bink does when they find it. The story actually has enough meat on it to stand up next to the more standard entries in the fantasy genre. If you're familiar with Xanth but haven't read this one, what are you waiting for? It features the rarity of Humphrey going on a long quest, and features discovering what makes Xanth what it is. A must read for Xanth fans. If you're a fantasy fan in general, be warned: Xanth is pretty ridiculous. It doesn't take itself seriously at all. But like I said, it's quite a bit tamer in these early books than in the later ones.
