Rating: Summary: Full bodied and interesting. Review: Intriguing. You're kept interested throughout, though in hindsight this entire series isn't really that awe-inspiring when you come down to it. Read it for entertainment. If you want something important and deep by Card, try Ender's Game, though I'm sure if you're reading this, you probably already have.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING PIECE OF WORK Review: I am reading this series, now working on the sencond one, and I have to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. The characters are so real, you feel very in touch with them, and you feel like they are real people. You are there, it sucks you in. This book is mostly character developement, and goes into a lot of personal detail. But once the ball gets rolling about half way through, buckle up, because you can't stop. And don't wait to grab the next one. I can't put these down!!!!! I recomend this book to anyone who likes to read, and everyone who doesn't. One of Card's greatest works. READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The characters were the best part Review: It was just the introduction to the Homecoming series, so not a lot seemed to happen, but it established the characters astonishingly well. Nafai and his brothers have very convincing personalities, and Gaballufix is geniunely irritating in his megalomania. It is a good one, but you have to read the whole series to understand it.
Rating: Summary: The book was overall an average book. Review: The world they live in is strange. The Oversoul is a strange machine. Some things do not make sense. Whatever you do, DO NOT read this book right after reading Ender's Game.
Rating: Summary: Mormonism? Who the Heck Cares? Review: Whether or not the story parellels the Book of Mormon matters not. That book is probably tens times as boring, much more preachy and steeped even more in religious propaganda. This was one of the most thought provoking set of books I have ever read and I encourage all to view them.
Rating: Summary: A slow start, but worth finishing. Review: Card has done an excellent job of developing believable characters in a compelling story. I found myself drawn to Nafai, the main character, in much the same way I was drawn to Ender, in Ender's Game. The story begins slowely, probably due to the depth that Card goes to develop his characters. But it all becomes worthwhile about halfway through the book. I look forward to finishing the series.
Rating: Summary: Totally Breathtaking Review: This book is the best book that I have ever read. It combines mystery with adventure to make a very exciting book. This book gets better and better the farther you read.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant, but quite far from his best. Review: OK so the plot goes almost exactly nowhere but hey this is the STARTING BLOCK!!!!! This is the setting up of a five part series this is the preperation. Though sometimes it might seem like an over inflated synopsis, it does not stop it from being brilliant!!! Mainly because of the charecters being so well fleshed out- Nafai's brothers Meb and Elemak are so ANNOYINGLY CRUEL, but they're meant to be.... and the story is really quite clever and complex and all with lots of little sub-plots and hidden motives and emotions. BRILLIANT!
Rating: Summary: Looking Forward to The Call of Earth Review: I received the Homecoming series for Christmas, just finished Memory of Earth, and anxious to begin the second book. I came late to Orson Scott Card's works, but they are timeless -- his characters are interesting, his settings awesome, and his lessons valuable.
Rating: Summary: From a Mormon perspective, an interesting idea Review: Having read the Book of Mormon and being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I found this book to be interesting. To LDS readers, the similarities to the stories of Nephi in the first few chapters of Book of Mormon will be obvious. Predictable story for LDS readers, but thought provoking.
