Rating: Summary: One of the worst Review: Did someone say "agonizingly slow psychodrama"? Well, here it is - with only one point to rise it a squeak above Elfstones: at least the characters go somewhere. Very bad children's literature. That's the one thing Brooks hasn't learned yet: kids don't care about psychological motivation. Keep it out!
Rating: Summary: A great book by a great author. I hope he writes more books. Review: Terry Brooks's book, Wishsong of Shannara, is one of the most interesting, intriguing and satisfying books that I have ever read. It tells of a classic battle between the forces of good and the forces of a lone evil. The story shows corruption, adventure, beating the odds, and best of all a world of magic. Fantasy is a great subject, and Terry Brooks takes to a whole new level. My only regret is that I have read almost every book that he has published and wish he would write more.
Rating: Summary: The worst of the bad Review: The works of Terry Brooks have always stunk. Okay, that's not totally true, they were good when I was 12. This is the worst of those books. Unless you are a card carrying member of the Worship-At-The-Brooks-Alter Society, skip this one and buy the newspaper. It's more boring than The Sword of Shannara, and almost as long.
Rating: Summary: a great read Review: The only thing I didn't like about this book was how Brin didn't like her power very much and didn't control it. I thought the wishsong power was very original, and even if it did follow the same basic plot, it has so many surprises that you can hardly tell it's the same basic storyline.
Rating: Summary: One of the best I've read, Brooks rates with Clark & Azimov Review: Intriguing, suspenseful. A fantastic trip into a world of myth and magic. As good as the Sword of Shannara and The Elfstones of Shannara. I did not expect Alannon's fate, and wondered about the fate of the Druids till I discovered Terry Brooks continued the saga. To me the whole saga is equal to Star Wars. I'd love to see them on the big screen. A first rate novel, Terry Brooks is as good as the masters of S.F., Clark, Azimov, Heinlen, etc.
Rating: Summary: This book is Brooks's weakest but it is important. Review: Wishsong was unfortunately boring and repetitive, but it was definetely needed to continue the series. I have read all of Brooks's shannara books and this one is the worst until about midpoint. Than it takes off if your reading the series you have to get it otherwise it won't be complete.
Rating: Summary: My least-favorite Shannara book. Review: Boring. Repetitive ("a nourishing meal of nuts and berries and cheese" or some variation thereof, occurs approximately every ten to twenty pages). The author made some attempt to flesh out his characters, but I still found myself not caring if they lived or died, succeeded or failed. Mr. Brooks has written far better than this one.
Rating: Summary: Depressing, but WONDERFUL!! Review: I have never cried at a book like I did when I read "Wishsong of Shannara". I had grown so fond of Allanon, Garet Jax, Edain Elessedil, and the others, I actually cried (I usually don't cry at books or movies). I loved this book SO MUCH!! It was an awesome story. Still, I can't rank it as high as The Sword of Shannara.
Rating: Summary: A must for fantasy-lovers!!! Review: This book and all of Terry Brooks books are fantastic!! Anyone who has read the Shannara series will tell you. If you have read books like the Lord of the Rings series you will fall in love with these books. Terry Brooks works should be right up there with J.R.R Tolkien's.
Rating: Summary: one of his best Review: This book was excellent, I've read it several times and I have enjoyed it everytime. I loved all the characters in the book. Brooks does an excellent job of keeping all the books connected, and this is what makes the Shannara series so compelling to read. this book is one of my favorites.
