Rating: Summary: Good book, but not number 1. Review: This book lives up to the rest of the Shannara series, but needs more character development, especially in Brin, and Rone. Slanter, Jair, and Garet Jax were great. THe character interaction was great. THis tale will draw you into the storyline and make you read all of Terry Brook's books.
Rating: Summary: A book combining horror, fantasy, and even a love story! Review: This is one of my favourite Brooks novel. In a way the walkers always terrified me more than Skull Bearers, a menace which is silent, and in a way far more evil than any Skull Bearer seemed, at least to me. Shame that they weren't developed. That is what is the single factor which brings these books down from a stellar rating. Nothing is developed enough, except for perhaps the relationship between Jair, Slanter and Garet Jax. Brin quickly fades into the background, and her relationship with Rone is pretty much downplayed so as you even doubt if there is one! A shame, because an extra two hundred or pages or so wouldn;t have been amiss. A rare thing to say in books of such length, but I felt that a lot more could have been explored. Oh well! A nice book in that it seems so much darker for the main characters.
Rating: Summary: Weak end to an otherwise great trilogy Review: Whereas the 'Sword' and 'Elfstones' both read as excellent novels on their own, this is more of an extension and rehash of both. There are fewer engaging characters here, and Brooks burdens himself with two central characters rather than one, dividing the action.
Rating: Summary: Good book, But not the Best Review: This was a pretty good book, but the first two were beter. I did really enjoy it, but it didn't capture my attention as much. This one still threw me for a few loops, and I didn't know what to expect, but it was a little slower reading than the other ones. I did really like the character Cogline, that crazy old my was the coolest. I was kind of up set when the Druid Allanon got killed, but I knew it had to happen eventually, especially since he was about 400 years old. Overall, this was a really good book, and a must read to continue with the series.
Rating: Summary: Converted Review: I am a recently converted Brooks fan. Like Saul of Tarsis I once took delight in casting stones at this man & his readers. But I have seen the light. This is one of my favorite Shannara Novels. I put them in this order: Sword of Shannara Wishsong of Shannara First King of Shannara Druid of the Shannara The rest all fall on a level plain. Basically, there's no reason why these pleasant books should take away from great literature. Only a snob would make that argument. Try this book - you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed it very much. Review: Terry Brooks sure knows how to build to a climax. The last 100 pages of this book were some of the most exciting I have ever read. And I agree full-heartedly with Jair's way of thinking - No way does Garet Jax loose his last battle! I could not bring myself to give this book 5 stars though. Brooks' writting seemed rushed in places, and the character Stythys was a painfully-obvious clone of Gollum from The Hobbit. Still, for those who loved the first two books like I did, this is definitely fun.
Rating: Summary: Brin Ohmsford continues the tradition of her ancestors. Review: This is a great book! I guess that all the people who complained about it are narrow-minded Idiots. My favorite characters were Garet Jax, and Whisper, the Moor-cat.They were two fascinating characters. I have read a lot of his works but this is the best! Hooray For Brooks!
Rating: Summary: The Wishsong makes you wish you could jump in the book!!! Review: I cant believe the people who downgrade and say things against this book or Terry Brooks. This is what its all about! This book has Brook's best character, fighting wise, second only to Menion Leah. Action and plot abound. Definately one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Utter bile Review: Terry Brooks has always been a terribly overrated writer with legions of adoring fans who drool over his every word. Nice for him, I suppose, especially considering that his novels are works of adequate (and occasionaly above-average) childrens fantasy at best.Wishsong is cut from the same cloth, but rather than the "been there seen that," cliched tales of his other works, this one is, well...garbage. Utterly boring, incredibly annoying, and a greater waste of time than the Clinton Presidency. Skip this at all costs.
Rating: Summary: Great! A must read!! Review: I would have to say that this book would be ranked third out of the best books in this trilogy. It has a lot of action, and it also shows some things between brother and sister. Brin is always trying to be calm and protect her brother, yet Jair is rowdy and doesn't care for protection because he has the magic too. Jair always uses his magic and it soon gets him in trouble. Wil, Brin and Jair's father, tells them not to use their magic because it always leeds to trouble, and they soon find that trouble and go out to destroy the Ildatch. Its a great book and you should read it!
