Rating: Summary: Brooks the king of Fantasy Review: Every since I read this book i've been hooked. The Shannara series is the best, it's hard for me to stop reading once I get started. He leaves you hanging on the edge of you're seat waiting to find out what is going to happen next.
Rating: Summary: A magical, mystical novel, this one is definitely a gripper! Review: The Sword of Shannara is possibly my favourite fantasy novel of all time. While it does borrow many of Tolkein's themes (you'd have to be blind not to notice that) it manages to turn them into an entirely unique story. This book is suspensful , magical, and a whole lot of fun. I'd recommend for anyone who enjoys fantasy.
Rating: Summary: A MASTERPIECE!!!! Review: I had this book recommended to me by my Mom, and I polished it off in three days. I HATED to put it down! I read this book a long time ago, but I still remember how much I liked it. I have all the books in the Shannara series and I've read them all except for the last two. I have a feeling I'm going to read them again very soon.
Rating: Summary: I think The Sword of Shanara is a very well written book. Review: The Sword of Shanara was a very well written and well thought out book. It was very discripitive and had a suprising plot. The characters are interesting and colourful.
Rating: Summary: the best book yet Review: WHOEVER SAID THAT SWORD OF SHANARA WAS THE SAME AS TOILKEN MAN GET A LIFE. THIS BOOK IS BETTER THAN LORD OF THE RINGS BY A LONG SHOT. I MEAN THIS BOOK HAS SOME ACTION IN IT. AFTER READING THIS BOOK I BOUGHT THE REST OF TERRY'S BOOKS AND READ ALL OF THEM IN A MOUNTH AND A HALF. IT IS NOT THE SAME AS TOLKINS. OW MY GOSH!! SWORD OF SHANARA HAS A N ELF IN IT, JUST LIKE TOLKIN, IT MUST BE THE SAME!! YEAH RIGHT.
Rating: Summary: One of two finest fantasy authors today. Review: All of the Shannara tales were books that reached out and grabbed my attention, and held it. I only wish I knew how to collect the hardback editions now that they are mostly out of print. For anyone who enjoys great fantasy writing, the Shannara books are a must read!! I also highly recommend the Wheel of Time series by Jordan.
Rating: Summary: Terry Brooks is the Master!! Review: I have every Terry Brooks novel ever published and have read each one at least twice. The Sword of Shannara was my first novel and I've been hooked ever since!! Whether it's battling demons or visiting Landover, Terry Brooks has it all.
Rating: Summary: one of the best fantasy titles!!! Review: While anyone who has read Tolkien, they will see some of the same things in this book. But After all this was Terry Brooks' first novel, and this isn't bad for trying, the other two in the trilogy are a lot more original but this still is a wonderful big slice of delecious epic fantasy. Read this book!
Rating: Summary: Better than tolkin by a long shot! Review: I'V READ ALL OF BROOKS BOOKS (AND OWN THEM.) DESPITE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN TOLKIN'S BOOKS! IT'S GRIPPING AND YOUY CAN NEVER PUT IT DOWN! I READ IT IN TWO WEEKS IT WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Review: Whoever said that Brooks is much like Tolkien is wrong!! Sure they are both Fantasy but is that enough ground to go accusing author's of ripping you off. I couldn't put this book, the rest of the series, the Magic Kingdom series or the Heritage of Shannara series down. They were excellent. I found the characters magical in a realistic sense. The portrayal of Man as a race that is easily overcome is so real I laughed outright. Allanon was such a forbidding character with such a sense of goodness that I fell in love with him at once. I truly believe that throughout all of his books, Brooks continues to state that it is necessary to know yourself and admit wrongs. This is proven by the Sword, the Elfstones, and the Wishsong. This series is an excellent set-up for the Heritage books.
