Summary: I enjoyed all the parts in this book
Review: I was on the edge of my seat during the whole entire book. I expecially like when Shea first found the gnome with the sword. I also enjoyed when Stenmin got killed and how Tyris was saved.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Captured my attention....
Review: ...however I thought it was an outstanding book. The content was easy to read, kept me interested and entertained. The two characters Flick and Shea were "just boys" who were innocent and naive. Not your typical "hero" as some would like to think. That was Terry Brooks goal...and I see he did it well. For those of you who LIKED this book..read his others...for they are entertaining and attention getters as well.

Summary: Addictive
Review: This book was GREAT! Once I started I couldn't put it down!!! After I finished I got the Wish Song of Shannara and the Elf Stones of Shannara, then all the Herittage of Shannara! Once you start reading his books you can't stop!

Summary: Tremendously disappointing
Review: I am fully aware that this is Mr. Brooks' first book, therefore I won't judge the whole of his work with it, for I have not gone to read further writings of his.

But, as far as 'Sword of Shanarra' is concerned, it was mediocre. The whole of Allanon's speech was utterly disconnected, not to mention the awful history lesson. I must admit that, if I had bought into the history lesson instead of despised reading every awkwardly crammed up word of it, I might have had more pleasure reading through the whole of the novel. Honestly, the beginning screwed it up grandiosely for me, something I'm certain T.Brooks has learned now that he's got many novels under his belt.

Totally typical devoid-of-depth-quest. Sorry, but incredibly linear plot, and painfully shallow. Flick or Shea did not show me, through action and speech that he was a character I'd wish to relate to. It hasn't done that, far from it. All we get is Flick and Shea, some empty-headed kids.

Oh and couldn't mister Brooks come up with better titles than a myriad of Shannara this, Shannara that, Someone of Shannara, Something of Shannara. . .

Did I mention how much the name 'Flick' turned me off? No? Well it was absolutely nothing compared to 'Shea'. A MALE protagonist called SHE. . . and with a 'A' to top it off, (which, in Spanish, among others, pretty much declares feminity)

As I've mentioned, I believe a lot of flaws were due to inexperience. Besides, a man who's written that many novels would be hard pressed not to improve. So, because I thrashed his book with a measly one star, I'll try his new series, which's name I don't recall.

Of course, if you want breath-taking and amazingly riveting books, I suggest you check out Terry Goodkind's 'Sword of Truth', George RR Martin's 'A game of throne', David Farland's 'Runelord', CS Friedman's 'Coldfire' trilogy, Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time'. Those were in my personal preference order, sorry Sword of Shannara doesnt' come close to the heel of any of those. Hopefully, you'll enjoy those suggestions, they're la creme de la creme, and if you enjoyed the quest style of Shannara and you've not read Goodkind, you're in for the ride of your life.

Summary: This book is one of his best
Review: This, along with The First King of Shannara and The Scions of Shannara are Brooks' best books to date. I enjoy all of his books but this one is great. The character development in Shea is incredible. Going from frightened forestman to a true hero gives one the impression that this boy is brave. This is the book that made Terry Brooks a star. Read it!!!!!!!!

Summary: Excellent book, and nothing to do with Tolkien!
Review: This is a very good book and I recommend it to all. Only negative to the story is that it's a bit slow going throughout.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: You would be a fool not to buy this book.*************
Review: This book was simply great! I am a very picky person, and I loved this book! This is probably one of the best books I've ever read. It's got a great plot (classic good guys vs. bad guys) I don't know why everyone compares this to Tolkeins' stuff. It's like comparing cats and dogs. they have a few similarities, but come on, they're ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. I'd recommend this to anyone that enjoys good fantasy books, or good books in general. Even if you aren't a huge fantasy fan, you'll love this none the less.

Summary: It is not so great anymore
Review: Last spring when I read The Sword of Shannara I thought that it was the greatest book ever and I couldn't put it down. Then came Robert Jorden and The Wheel of Time. What a great writer and a complicated story. If you want a really good series try WoT. Brooks is a childrens writer compared to Jordan. As I finish The Shadow Rising I think that I should lower the rating to three stars.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best fantasy/science fiction books ever
Review: Although this book has a theme similar to many other fantasy books, what sets this book apart are the characters, whom Terry Brooks has created. I have read this book at least 20 times, and although I know what is going to happen, I still cannot put the book down. When a character dies, I am affected as deeply as the first time. The dark druid Allanon, whom seems ominipotent at times, is made human by Brooks. I find myself rooting for Shea and Flick throughout the book. Each character grows throughout the journey, and this pulls the reader deeper into the story. If you are looking for a page-turning fantasy book with well-developed characters, this is the book for you. I highly suggest reading the rest of the Shannara series as well. They are all great books.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: By far the best Fantasy Book of all time!
Review: I felt I was on the journey with them! When I finished the book I was actually upset! I went on to read all of the Shannara books (6 more), and the story continued! If you enjoyed the Sword, you will especially love The First King of Shannara. Very few books make me feel such an personal investment. I absolutely and without hesitation would recommend this book to anyone! This book will remain one of my all-time favorites!
