Rating: Summary: ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITES Review: This is by far one of the most captivating books I have ever read. The plot is great, the characters are incredible, especially Hendel HE ROCKS!!, and the action is non-stop. Before I started reading Fantasy, I thought it sucked and that it couldn't compare to Science-Fiction. AND BOY WAS I STUPID! This book, and Talion:Revenant by Stackpole, read it, brougt me away from Sci-Fi and Star Wars, and introduced me to many more things. If you can compare this to anything, it is the Star Wars Saga. One of the characters, Panamon Creel, looks like Biggs when I imagine him in my head for some reason, and they are so different. I think that if this were made a movie, it would be awesome. So, you need to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Captivating up until the very end!! Review: Definately the very best fantasy novel I have ever read. I simply fell in love with each character in this book and I did not want this story to end. Luckily, it didn't. If you read this masterpiece, you have to read the other books in the saga as well...such as The Elfstones of Shanara and The Wishsong of Shanara. Terry Brooks is awesome. A story that has stayed with me for years!!
Rating: Summary: Met by none! Review: It is better than, or at least equal to Tolkien. All you people saying it was terrible have no sane idea what you are talking about! If you did not like it, then you apparently cannot appretiate good literature! If you like fantasy writing at all, you will love this book. I did, and all the people I know were hooked after the first paragraph as well!
Rating: Summary: Does this guy have no shame? Review: To take a line from David Spade - I liked it better the first time when they called it "Lord of The Rings". I bought this ina an airport needing something to read. If you are considering reading this trash hit the back button on your browser and find The Hobbit, then Fellowship of the Ring etc. If I was Tolkiens kid I would try to sue this guy. Let's see. I think the Ring Wratihs, er I mean Skull Wraiths, er Skull Bearers are what caused me to puke in my barf bag first. Please people don't buy this book.
Rating: Summary: It is the best book I've ever read, it is a must read !!!! Review: I've never read a book this great before and I plan on reading the rest of the shannara books. It has the coolest characters in a book. My personal favorite was PANAMON CREEL. He is the coolest, It has some of the greatest lines. The best line is:"We'll meet again, Shea Ohmsford. You watch for me" I just kept reading it over again. I wish they would make a movie out of it. It would be the best. I just could not put it down. For those of you who want to read a great fantasy just go and buy this book you won't regret it ! I didn't like to read books until I read this ! The scariest creatures in the book were the skull bearers.
Rating: Summary: Worth a million Tolkien Books!!!!! Review: I read this book first when i was 12 and have never found a book or author that I like better. The whole series is unmatched in every way. Terry Brooks wrote the book on adventure and captivating fantasy writing.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book Review: I read this book many years ago and have never forgotten it. Brooks masterfully spins a tale in which he will pull the reader in. I found myself attached to the characters and when the book was over, it was like leaving a group of good friends. I'm no great critic of books, but I know what I like; and in my opinion, Brooks couldn't have written a better book!
Rating: Summary: Where have I read this before? Review: This is what all the fuss was about? For readers not in the know, The Sword of Shannara is a fantasy tale told a hundred time before, by better authors each time. Virtually every post-Tolkien fantasy cliche is taken out and waved around, as if in an attempt to mesmerize readers who are easily influenced by trickery and slight of hand. (it worked, people love this book) At best, it's 350 pages too long...at worst, it's shameless, derivative refuse that manages to line the pockets of Mr. Brooks, and little more.
Rating: Summary: Great exciting fantacy! Review: I actually read the Sword of Shannara before I read the First King of Shannara, and this is what got me started on books written by Terry Brooks. I didn't really expect it to catch my interest but as I read along I found that I couldn't put it down. I especially liked Hendel. I was depressed when he died but I enjoyed how he always found a way out of a trap. The only thing I didn't really like is the run-on sentences. There was a lot of useless information, but I totaly enjoyed it and hope you do too!
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: Very good. I read it years ago, but I was still excited when I read it. It has the greatest charactors of all time. With Balinor, Hendel, Menion, and of course Allanon the story is great. Although there were some "corny" parts ie Skull Mountain, Worlock Lord, Northland being bad, and there was a little too much "chance" though these flaws don't hamper the story any. Once you get into it you can't put it down, but if you don't get into it, which is very hard to do, it can get a bit long. It is muck like Star Wars in the amount of batlles and such going on at once. But as the series goes on it does get a little boring, but the other books are still quite good.
