Summary: A Thrilling Adventure!
Review: When I first read this book way back in 8th grade, I was enthralled from cover to cover. I dreamed of being like Menion Leah, with a bow over my shoulder and a sword in my hand. And I knew that if I could choose anyone to stand by my side in a dark alley, I would choose Allanon, last of the druids. This was the perfect book for that 8th grade kid who sat through math class daydreaming of adventure. But would I still like it now that I'm all grown up and 'mature'? This is the question I asked myself as I recently decided to reread this old favorite. As it turns out, I still love this book. Just last night I dreamed I had a bow over my shoulder and a sword in my hand. I guess I haven't grown up as much as I thought. Thank God!

Summary: Very Entertaining
Review: Okay, to start off, I'm tired of hearing everyone putting each other down simply because they have a different opinion. If you think someone who gave it five stars is an idiot, they probably think you're an idiot for giving it one star. I read a lot of fantasy, and I don't think this is a rip-off of Tolkein. I do know they are similar, but I like them both equally. I treasure all of my books, because they are all different and special in many ways. I believe it's the same with this book. I loved it and recommend it to everyone.

P.S. It does nothing to call other people fools for their opinion, and may I remind you that you have your opinion just like everyone else does.

Summary: Actually, NO STARS!
Review: I read this book the year it came out. It is such an awful, talent-free rip-off of Tolkien...but I won't repeat what so many others have said. All =I= can say is...GACK!!!!

Summary: My favorite book!
Review: I picked this book up when I saw it sitting on a bookshelf at my friend's house. She let me borrow it since we always trade books. I really was just looking for something to read. I never imagined that i would fall in love with this book. It's a tale that combines everything in a story, it's wonderful!I have only one mini complaint- at the end I was left with a sudden feeling of emptiness. It seemed very abrupt. I almost felt like the story simply ended with, "and they all went home". It left me wanting more of an explanation. That is my only complaint, happy reading!!!

Summary: Excellent AND original
Review: This books is most likely one of the best books i've ever read. It had very well developed plot and characters. It was entertaining and fun to read. it kept me on my toes the whole time. For those who feel the need to say that brooks is copying tolkein: you are wrong. The only thing that they have alike is 1. they both have elves and 2. Gandalf a Allanon both have the same # of a's in their name. Don't get me wrong tolkein is a good writer too.

Summary: Who's the Elf on the cover?
Review: To all the Shannara buffs out there, who is the elf on the left hand side of the cover? Is that Durin or Dayel? Could someone please email me with an answer. Also, where are the other members of the group? Balinor and either Durin or Dayel are missing from the cover. There were five characters who climbed the tower and found the phantom sowrd of shannara. Were they left out of the cover illustration for convenience or some other reason? Any inside information on these mysteries would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, yeah. I thought the book was good. Yes, all of the Brooks fans know it is a blatant copy of Tolkein but I think we all still enjoy his works in light of this. All those anti-Brooks fanatics complain about how there is no character development. I beg to differ! The characters were very well developed and came across as very lifelike. These people should delve deeper into the story and criticize the faults that are there and not make up ones for their own "professional" review.

Pink Floyd rules!

Summary: Able to identify with the characters.
Review: Reading this book for the first time when I was 12, the style of writing and the language used was over my head to say the least. However, I read it again a few years later and became a lifelong Shannara fan. Most readers will admit that it closely resembles works by Tolkien but that does not mean it can't still be enjoyed. Brooks creates an entire history of a mythic world in a single novel and at the same time tells a captivating epic. By the end of the novel, I felt as if I was good friends with the major characters because of how lifelike they came across as. When a writer can do this, he has done a good job. It is obvious this is a true classic in the field of epic fantasy just based on the amount of backlash it has generated; good and bad. My compliments to Mr. Brooks.

Summary: VERY, VERY, VERY INTRIGUING
Review: I'm a college student and I dislike reading a great bit, but this book is awesome. Honestly, this is the ONE and ONLY book I've ever read, cover to cover! I loved it. I thought it would take me about 6 months to read; NO, it only took me 1 month. And for me, that's great! Happy Reading.

Summary: A Great Book That Keeps You Reading until The End.
Review: This is the best book that I have read. It has a great plot and an interesting character composition. You can't go wrong if you read this book because Terry Brooks involves each character with his or her own personality. After you have read this one you might not be able to stop reading the series.

Summary: An intriguing story!
Review: The problem with most fantasy books today, is that they're always being compared to classics such as Lord of the Rings. Although none of the books that I have read match up to The Hobbit, I don't let that ruin my reading experiance. To see the full spectrum of colors that a book can be, you must look at it as a seperate piece of work. THe Hobbit was a major milestone in writing, but don't let that put your opinion into a rut! The Sword of Shannara was a fantastic book, I literally couldn'y put it down. The characters were unique and lovable and all had flaws (personally, I really wanted to see Panamon Creel meet Menion Leah, wouldn't that have been a great confrontation!). Terry Brooks did a great job on this book, and I'm looking forward to reading his prequel, The First King of Shannara. For a good read people, read The Sword of Shannara.
