I was very used to hearing him refered to has a wise, wonderful, intelligent, caring old man. But the reality is, he was horribly normal in his personality, something I found fascinating. I also find interesting how the people of the Foundation only really acknowledge Seldon for psychohistory, whereas, the reality was that there were hundreds of people who worked on it, and on top of that, most of the progressive breakthoughs in making psychohistory a reality were not done by Seldon himself, but by someone who history choose to forget. It is also interesting to see the fall of the Empire before Seldon and how quickly things fell apart. To fully understand Foundation, you must really understand the character of Hari Seldon, and thus, you must read this book. Enjoy!

But either way, Asimov is such a master that his books are wonderful in any order!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A fun book Review: I enjoyed the book immensely, but in a different way than I enjoyed the books that come later in the series. This one was more character based, while the later books seem to me less so. Overall, I truely enjoyed this book, and I think that it's a shame Asimov couldn't have left us with to his great saga.

I enjoy reading trilogies (read Sonja Blue by Nancy A. Collins if you want something great in horror) and this first book has me wanting more. Hopefully the author continues on with the current cast of charters and problems with the theory on psychohistory. Overall a very good book.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Prehistory of Foundation Review: Considering how bad most prequels are, "Prelude to Foundation" is a pleasant surprise. I'm in the process of re-reading Foundation for the first time since high school and these books have aged very well. Prelude contains material on the background of Hari Seldon and psychohistory, as well as a rich and complicated view of a political world (Trantor). I'm not sure how much of my enjoyment is fueled by knowing the later history of the series, so I don't think that this is the best book to read first if you've never read the Foundation books before.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Interesting look at Hari Seldon Review: If you read Foundation and left wondering more about Hari Seldon, the man, as I did then this is a great book. If you hope that this book will provide some deep insight into psychohistory this is not the book to read. If you have never read the Foundation series before, this would be a fine book to start with. However I think it is a little lacking in the level of richness and detailed plot that the other books have. It is however still a fun book to read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Good, as always. Review: The good Doctor did it again with this fantastic work of future history. This time, we're introduced to a younger Hari Seldon during the years of his pioneering work in Mathematics, the development of Psichohystory, the branch of math the enables to predict the future in a scientific way. Of course, we all know this, but the book centers on the main problems that worry Harry, such as Imperial pressure to develope his theory, and weather or not could it be grounded on strong basis. This is a great introductory work, not only to the Foundation series, but to Asimov's work as well.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Consider reading "Foundation" first Review: This book tells about events that occurred before the founding of the Foundation. It was, however, written after the Foundation book itself. There's nothing wrong if you read "Foundation" before you read this one. In fact, I recommend you to do so. You don't need to know what happened in the "Prelude..." in order to understand "Foundation", but I'm not quite sure about the contrary. This book is, of course, a must-read to all Foundation fans. It's indeed very well written. Asimov's concept of the situation on Trantor is very original and, at the same time, quite credible. The book might well give you something to think about. It is, of course, very exciting and eventful as well - just what you'd expect form Asimov.

I found it interesting to go back and see the life of Hari Seldon. This book fit in perfectly with the Foundation trilogy. I liked that it had Daneel in it, and I was surprised to like Cleon the first, who is the Emperor of the Galactic Empire(you don't actually get to know him until Forward the Foundation). This was a must enjoyable addition to the Foundation saga. P.S. If you get this book you should also get Forward the Foundation = )
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding Prelude Review: Asimov is able to accurately and interestingly end with the beginning of one of the best sci-fi collections of all time. Prelude to Foundation gives a stunning background to the future novels as it shows Seldon's struggles to achieve a working psychohistory. Twists at the end of the novel are an added reward to reading this stellar book.
