Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I first picked up this book thinking it to be for ppl of a much younger age, but felt i should just read it because it was a "classic". I was stunned. i read 10 pages one night, went to bed unsatisfied, and the next night finished the book. It layers science fiction, fantasy, philosophy, and poetry all into one amazing story. I had read excerpts of this book, such as there will come soft rains, as a child out of my english books, and in the context of the rest of the stories this means so much more to me. Another great part of this is Usher II, which rewards Edgar A. Poe fans with a story beyond description
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: The Martian Chronicles is an incredibly engrossing book. Bradbury's use of imagery is excellent. But I had to read the book several times before I got the gist of it. But it was well worth it. Read this!!!
Rating: Summary: Vintage Bradbury at his finest. Review: I remember being given a tattered copy of this book at age 11 by my grandmother, who had bought it at some garage sale "because I knew you liked space and all that". Little did she realize the tremendous gift that she bestowed upon me. I read the book twice and then raided the local library for every bit of Bradbury I could lay hands on. I became a Bradbuy fan overnight. My kind-hearted librarian looked quizically at me when I requested a map to look up Green Town, Illinois. At that young age I realized that this, my friends, is how you do it right. I have yet to read Mr. Bradbuy's equal in both power and poetry. There are many imitators, but only one original. If you have a young son, daughter, niece, nephew, or neighbor (or combination of the aforementioned) who are avid readers and are approximately 11 years of age, do yourself a favor and give this book as a special gift to encourage a lifelong love of this fine artist's work.
Rating: Summary: I believe this is one of the best books I have ever read!!!! Review: I believe this is one of the great books that will be remembered. I have enjoyed all of Ray Bradbury's books and short stories, and I believe this is is one of the great ones. I loved it because it gave you such a detailed description of everything, so you could mold a perfect image in your mind with the words on the page. In short, this was really, really good, and I suggest it to other Bradbury fans who haven't read it!
Rating: Summary: The best of the best, without a doubt the best!!! Review: This is a great book, and it's written by a great author on a great subject. This is the definitive work for Ray Bradbury fans!
Rating: Summary: This is a very good book, best sci-fi I ever read. Review: I would happily give this book a 10 out of 10 stars. It is the best science fiction book that I have ever read in my life. I especially like it because the first chapter takes place a year before now.
Rating: Summary: This is pure poetry Review: This book is science fiction only in that it takes place on a planet called Mars. It is prose only in that it is not written in literal verse. But most of all, most important of all, this book is poetry. None of this book was meant to be literal in any sense of the word, it is symbolic from beginning to end, and the writing is better than any descriptive narrative since Dickens. Bradbury is able to make us smell the grass, feel the flame of the rockets, taste the dry sand in our teeth, and all the while speaking to our souls in the song of the poet.
Rating: Summary: Perfect. Review: My all-time favorite Bradbury book. The only bad thing about this book is that it ends.
Rating: Summary: Alright Review: This was a combination of short stories of Bradbury. I think however that way to many people die in this book. But I'm giving it a 8 because of the story Usher II in there. I think it can be compared to so many people this day.
Rating: Summary: This was a very enjoyable book Review: I have just now started to read a lot of Ray Bradbury's works and I found The Martian Chronicles to be a very good book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes science fiction.
