Rating: Summary: A fairy tail that perfectly depicts the human gender Review: Nothing I can possibly say will reflect the beauty of this book. Here is a piece of literature that disguises it's grandeur in the simplicity of innocent construction, yet holds in it`s interior the answers to some of humankind's deepest and most trascendent questions. Bradbury has the poetry of endless summer nights, yet the conviction and straightforwardness of an historian. He builds civilizations from his mind and heart only for us to destroy, yet he gives us the hope of human irresponsability and ignorance to justify our behaviour. This is the kind of literature that you want to remember your grandfather by: quiet winter nights, reading by the fireplace, giving life to those wonderful golden eyed beings from a not so distant nor strange world in your mind... This is the kind of masterpiece that you keep in your treasure chest, between your most precious belongings. I re-read it every year, and everytime I learn something new of what we are from it. Mr. Bradbury has shared his most precious fantasies with us, his innermost world of poetry, fantasy, science fiction... and truth as well. Please read it with your favorite soft music playing!!
Rating: Summary: I'm not a big fan of sci fi! Review: I for one am not a big fan of sci fi books, novels or movies. I do however think this book was done very well. Its hard to write a book w/lots of bridges and different stories. It takes a good writer to make it make sense.Bradbury does a very nice job of putting the stories together and making sense. This book is very good for someone w/a good creative immagination. It had very creative inventions in it, such as the metal books and the flamming birds. Not one particular story stuck out at me.Maybe if I had a bigger interest in sci fi I might have enjoyed it more, and or thought about the book deeper.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for all ages Review: The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury The Martia Chronicles is a series of short stories or chronicles, about the way life would be if we lived on Mars and what happened to those that tried too. It also puts us in a Martian's perspective, and looks at the way it would be for them. Bradbury has wonderful extrapulations and a vivid imagination, that kept you wanting more. The book was very intersting due to the fact that he described everything so well. The book made you feel as if you were living in that time period, with the martians. My favorite chronical, would have to be "there will come soft rains" because I liked the depth it had and the hidden meaning to it. In conclusion, I thought the book was good, it held my intrest and thats hard to do. I would recomend it to someone else.
Rating: Summary: A Strange but very exciting story. Great use of imagery. Review: Martian Chronicles is a very well written book as a whole. As with any Chronicle some parts are better than others. My personal favorite is The martian which starts on page 119 and ends on page 131. If you don't like stories that are completely weird then don't bother even picking it up. However if you do enjoy weird stories then you will fall in love with this book. Ray Bradbury stretches your imagination to its farthest reaches as he takes you to different places on mars and then back on earth. Some of his characters can be a little controversal but it is all meant for your entertainment. So if you need a laugh or you just want to escape the realities of earth then this is deffinatly the book for you. However if you like books that go together then you might not enjoy this one. Towards the end things start to fit together a little bit but it isn't like a regular story it's not supposed to all go together. To be completely honest not everyone has the imagination to enjoy what his book the Martian Chronicles.
Rating: Summary: This is for anyone who loves science fiction books. Review: On the terms of Bradbury's accounts, I thought his book was semi interesting and very creatitve. He has a good sense of getting people hooked on his writings, and by keeping the book's chapters intact is also makes it interesting. "The Martian Chronicles" is very ironic and also very futuristic. It makes you think of what may be in the future. I'd refer this book to anyone who likes to read science fiction stories.
Rating: Summary: A Literary Masterpiece Review: It has been two years since I first read THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES in my junior year of high school. In browsing your web site, I noticed that the average rating was only 3.5 stars. Considering this book is considered a classic, I was curious about why this was so. I read review after inarticulate review in horror, seeing that they were based on severe misunderstandings of the purpose and meaning behind the collection. I hope that prospective buyers will not weight their opinions too heavily. First, the book is a collection of short stories, not a novel; the plot does not have to be constant, nor must the characters return from story to story. Readers must understand that some of the stories were written at different times in Bradbury's career and only strung together afterwards into this collection. There is however a common theme in the work, which the reviewers failed to recognize. Bradbury is a master not because he is an excellent storyteller (though that is certainly the case), but because with his stories he enlightens us; he is an expert in stopping us in our train of thought and forcing us to consider a new idea, epiphany, or belief. These are usually not predominantly science fiction ideas. Like any author who has mastered the sci-fi genre, Bradbury uses a hypothetical future to examine the present. It is a similar tool which Jonathon Swift used to satirize Great Britain in GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. Our societal conventions and practices are sometimes more easily viewed through the lens of fiction or fantasy, and Bradbury knew this. Issues of whether he was accurate in his projections of human society and science are less than secondary, they are irrelevant. I am afraid that I have made THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES seem more academic than they should be considered. The stories are often light-hearted, often wondrous. They capture so well the human desire for adventure and mystery. I don't believe that these stories will ever be outdated, as some of the reviewers claim. They are timeless.
Rating: Summary: The most beautiful story of Mars ever created. Review: I remember reading this book when I was about 13 years old. It captured my sense of wonder. It took my breath away with it's wonderful poetic imagery. It touched many emotions in me. I have read it many times since then and I have lost count. Whenever I want to recapture my passion for reading Science Fiction. Whenever I need inspiration. I always turn to this beautiful book. I rate it as the best Science Fiction book of all time. If I could only take one book with me it would be this one.
Rating: Summary: It was a very good book. It was so crazy and out of wack. Review: It was so crazy and wierd that I just liked it. It was out of control. I liked the book all except that each chapter was a different story. I wish that it was just all one book. A continuance. Besides that a great book. It was one of my favorites. My favorite would have to be The Westing Game. I liked the Westing Game because I really like mysteries. The book I most disliked would have to be Roll of Thunder Here my Cry. I just thought it was so boring. I could never get into it.
Rating: Summary: interesting and almost realistic Review: The book in general was very interesting and kept us thinking the whole time about the future events in space exploration. I personally injoyed some chapters such as the martian were as other chapters like UsherII were completely out there. My favorite chapter like i said was the martian because he was so caring and tried to help anyone that he came into contact with o a day to day basis. The worst chapter in my mind was UsherII I really don't care for Edger Allen Poe that well so it was very hard for me to grasp the whole concept of the house crumbling down and all the little querks in it.
Rating: Summary: The book was well written but not realistic. Review: I did not like the book very much because I am not much of a sci-fiction kind of reader. The book is very well written but not very realistic at all. I did not like the fact that it was a bunch of different storys either. I like books with one plot better than a bunch of different stories with all different characters. In my opinion I would not read this book if you do not like science-fiction.
